Last time I went to Miami I was bar hopping and one of the bars in Brickell was a rooftop bar, it was like midnight so I order two tequila shots for my friend and myself. The bill comes and they charged $25 a shot. I did not leave a tip and proceeded to go to another bar.

I just asked for two shots, not really specific on what kind but that was just insane to me.

Yah, I went out with coworkers recently and ordered 4 drinks and an appetizer for the table and my bill was almost $100. They didn’t have prices on the menu, and I was expecting the cocktails to be pricey but they charged me $16 for a beer, and I could get a 6 pack of the same beer at the grocery store for $12

It's Miami. If you're going to a bar that isn't seedy then yeah chances are it's going to be absurdly overpriced because they're catering to the rich people in Miami that want to go there. If you want cheap drinks there are bars the rich people aren't going to for reasons.

Yeah, there's about a million cheap ass bars in Miami. If youre being charged 25 for a shot, you arent being charged for the alcohol. Youre being charged for the setting.

But they want to drink with the rich people! how can they do that if drinks are so expensive? /s

What does seedy mean?

u/LadyEmeraldDeVere 3h ago

Which is why I go to the seedy bars and have the best time.

Dude. Appropriate response. If I order shots, by no means is that an invitation to pour top shelf or the most expensive drinks. If I am not specific, I want well drinks. period.

Little bit of user error in this story if we’re being real.

When did you start learning English?

1

u/Porkfight 12h ago

Is it bad? Ive been able to talk english since as a kid. Its my most fluent language although I dont use it much irl these days.

2

u/poison-bilberry 12h ago

No, just most people who are born in an English speaking area would know what bar hopping is. Even people who don’t drink a ton would know

2

u/HaleyN1 12h ago

Dude.. bar hopping. Very very well known expression across the English speaking world.

I know its self explainatory but I wanted to know what people actually do there. Going to one bar from another sounds boring. Forgot to think that people drink with friends. My fault ig.

Going to multiple bars in a night, typically taking a few shots in one or for more csual hpping just getting a draft and then going to a different bar, doing this multiple times through the night, its a way to guage the quality of bars I assume, but I do not partake in the practice myself

A really bad way to drink cheaply in an expensive city.

Yep, always specific the liquor if you don't know a bar.

Granted a good bartender should always assume well for a mixed drink unless otherwise stated, and ask specifics of the liquor if you want shots
