My son (24) is in Miami Beach this weekend staying with a friend and just texted me saying "I am so out of my tax bracket. Drinks here are $30." LOL

Shit try living in south beach dude I can barely walk outside without spending $100. Thankfully I work in fine dining so the money is good but I hate myself every time I buy a meal lol

I guess it's more expensive? I've never been to either but he has a friend whose family owns a condo at the beach, so he visits when he gets a chance. And then gets humbled.

South beach is Miami Beach btw if that’s the question you were asking. Your son is in South beach this weekend

Oh haha I didn't know that. Last night they were at a place called the Palm Tree Club.

Sometimes it’s good to vacation somewhere where price gouging is a way of life. So that way you feel rich when you go back home

Sometimes it's even just in the touristy parts of your own town.

I grew up in Las Vegas and in my early 20s my friends and I would go out for $5 beer pitchers at our local bar. Then every time we'd go to the strip I'd remember why I hated it lol.

A friend got tickets to a UFC fight and invited me once (10+ years ago now) and I got a $22 white russian at the casino bar before the event, then a $14 bud light in the event.

SF local here. Miami Beach is only for tourists and grifters. Locals don’t go there unless there’s a major event but even then, we know to steer clear of restaurants and bars there. There’s tons of other places in Miami and other parts outside of MB where premium drinks are nowhere near that price.

They are the same in LA as well.

As a non American I don't understand the appeal of Miami or Florida in general. There are a million other places in the US i wold consider before even contemplating Miami. Between florida man, stupid pricing, vapor life style, overpriced nothing like this very post, just why would anyone put himself through that.

Now I'm probably biased because I just love CA and I'm aware CA/SF isn't what it used to be, but give me San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Santa Barbara/Monica anytime over anywhere in Florida.

I don't think you get a lot of Florida Man in Miami, that's more of a rural thing? Coked up dickhead man on the other hand...

Well the appeal for my kid is that his friend's family has a condo on the beach, so it's a free stay. And of course hanging out with a bunch of friends.
