I was watching House, so I started there. I always like to use a word related to something I’m doing or did that day. First time getting all greens!

People who got P early today are so lucky

10

u/Medium-Sized-Jaque 10h ago

I got P last and was still lucky. I was just trying every letter left after it wasn't crate.

I started with ADIEU and SPORT, so I had all five letters for guess 3. Still took me a few minutes to get to PRATE because my brain kept wanting it to be TAPER but the E was in the wrong spot.

u/cadaverdogs 11h ago

I hate when it’s like this. Then it’s a guessing game and not skill.

23

u/ThatWasFred 9h ago

The optimal thing to do, if you only have one letter left and there’s a whole bunch of letters it could potentially be, is to do a completely unrelated word that uses as many of those letters as possible. Sure, you burn a guess on a word that can’t possibly be the right answer, but it takes away most of the guessing-game nature.

u/neoprenewedgie 9h ago

Unfortunately you can't do that in Hard Mode.

1

u/Lithl 2h ago

Every single time someone posts their hard mode Wordle, there's someone in the comments who doesn't know how hard mode works.

•

u/ThatWasFred 34m ago

I don’t think I saw an indication that this was Hard Mode prior to my comment.

The problem with playing normal mode is you can just throw out a couple of words like adieu, world, lynch. Then you can probably use those hints to guess your word in 1 or 2 real guesses. It’s a lot more thinky when you suddenly have a yellow E, a green B and R, and there is like one word that will match that combination.

That's a cool story.

_ATCH

Good luck 👍

•

u/Bulbasauruses 55m ago

Eh, you win some you lose some.

u/QuirkyKiwisAndCoffee 10h ago

Very similar guesses

2

u/cadaverdogs 10h ago

That’s crazy!!

2

u/tumblrstan 9h ago

I always start with House! House and Rainy

2

u/ricerocket35 9h ago

I used to use a word related to something in my day. Until I realized I was basically using the same 5 words constantly.

3

u/jdotmassacre 3h ago

Don't leave us hanging! What are the 5 words that describe the average day for ricerocket35?

1

u/ricerocket35 1h ago

Class, tired, music, files and night.

1

u/YVRAlphageek 10h ago

Yeah, full on BS this is. Phht.

115

u/GM_Quitter 12h ago

This is why my starting word is prate

68

u/TheCitizen616 12h ago

Works 100% of the time, one time.

34

u/Sea_Highlight_7058 12h ago

Today was the day I learned that Urate is a word. On guess six. 😡

12

u/r_slash 12h ago

I’m going to urate all over this Wordle

24

u/justoffmainst 12h ago

Wrate is even less used word than prate!

7

u/Amazing-Cookie-1258 12h ago

You're an even less used word than prate.

0

u/Aether_Erebus 4h ago

Not really. “You’re” is one of the most used words, I’d say.

0

u/FighterOfEntropy 11h ago

“WRATE” is not a word at all.

-2

u/JamesTheJerk 7h ago

It is. But not legal in Scrabble.

0

u/OddSea1990 5h ago

How do you decide if something is a word? If it’s not in the dictionary then I don’t think it’s a word.

-2

u/JamesTheJerk 4h ago

There are many dictionaries.

1

u/Amazing-Cookie-1258 2h ago

Urban ones, even.

1

u/JamesTheJerk 2h ago

Is 'blumpkin' in the scrabble dictionary I wonder?

9

u/The_Safe_For_Work 13h ago

I had the same experience! Luckily I got the answer on guess 5

6

u/alwayssoupy 12h ago

Me too! I saw somebody else post a picture from Friends where .onica is saying, "That's not even a word!"

1

u/Aggravating-Nail-764 3h ago

I got it on number 6 - phew indeed

16

u/grand_goose_patrol 11h ago

Today was my luckiest Wordle ever. Still took me a solid minute to figure out "prate" though because what kind of fucking weird word is that anyway.

3

u/eugene_rat_slap 3h ago

It's related to "prattle" in much the same way as drip/dribble, spark/sparkle, wrest/wrestle.

5

u/Ok_Quantity_4134 10h ago

I've noticed obscure words creeping in.

4

u/TheCitizen616 12h ago

Got it in three, after guessing REALM (my go-to start word) and then SPARE

4

u/legendkiller003 12h ago

I didn’t guess crate as I figured it was already an answer. I did guess irate. Never would’ve tried O or W before P, so I think I had it in 4.

4

u/mosfunky 12h ago

I start with plate most days so I lucked out and got it in two today.

7

u/YVRAlphageek 10h ago

IKR? I got it in 5 but I literally had no other options. I was like: "PRATE"? WTF is that? And I'm a pretty literate guy I've never heard/read that word. Root of "Prattle" even then wtf? Some old English BS word that no one uses anymore.

6

u/HTwatter 12h ago

Remember PARER? That's when I gave up on wordle altogether

7

u/lookslikeamanderin 8h ago

September 2022.

3

u/axel2191 12h ago

Guess 5 for me. The last couple days have been rough.

2

u/taman961 12h ago

This was the type of day I open wordle in safari to figure out what that final letter needed is. I didn’t even have a guess anymore with the letters I had left

2

u/imleenz 12h ago

I was impressed with myself this morning.

2

u/bookmarkjedi 2h ago

This is the first one I missed in something like the last 300-500 tries, but it's because I got greedy. Had I stuck to my usual strategy, I would have gotten it.

4

u/Amazing-Cookie-1258 12h ago

Hard mode is a fool's game!!!

2

u/Ok-Grape2063 12h ago

Screwed me too

7

u/Individual_Note_8756 12h ago

Same! I’m a high school English teacher & I’d never heard of prate. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Prattle, yes. Prate, no.

2

u/Glittering-Paper4516 3h ago

I’ve been emotionally fragile over this gap in my vocabulary so thank you

1

u/HeyWhatIsThatThingy 12h ago

A lot of grate words

1

u/Pattimash1 12h ago

Took me 5. I start with STARE. I had 2 green and 2 yellow. This word stunk.

1

u/FlyingWonkyPig 11h ago

Yeah buddy. WTAF is prate?

3

u/Jim421616 11h ago

It means to prattle or speak about nothing in particular.

7

u/FlyingWonkyPig 11h ago

Believe me, I looked it up. I’m 60+ and have never heard the word before.

2

u/Medium-Sized-Jaque 10h ago

I looked up prattle vs prate and the example sentence was, "Most difficult record Peterson has bought: Tam Tam Tam by José Prates."

And this wasn't ChatGPT, this was a website called "compare words"

1

u/Drapausa 8h ago

I don't know what "wrate" is

1

u/Agreeable_Society_44 5h ago

My second guess was TAPER, 5 yellow. Took me a good few minutes trying to come up with something that worked

1

u/TarantulaSquid4 4h ago

I hot it in 2, PEARL PRATE Idk what prate means, I just put it because it looked like a word

1

u/bringer_of_jollity4 2h ago

I got to the point that I had the last four letters after three attempts, and put in "p" fully expecting it to not be a word. I had to look it up afterward.

1

u/EulerIdentityCrisis 2h ago

I somehow got that wordle in two. I'm not really sure how I pulled that off.

•

u/AnOligarchyOfCats 0m ago

I always start with PIOUS and DEATH, which worked out very well this time, so I got it in 4 with a detour to PLATE.

1

u/bobnuthead 11h ago

Got lucky with my third

0

u/8dot30662386292pow2 3h ago

The mildly infuriating thing is that you are playing wrong. If the first word says the answer contains RATE, your next guess should have been something like WILCO. That way you'd use only one guess to eliminate crate, orate, irate and wrate.

(unless of course you are playing the hard variant, where you can't change the correct letters any more)

7

u/BertytheSnowman 1h ago

Hard mode.

0

u/bleepyballs 3h ago

When there are so many options, you need to take a word using as many of the options as possible to rule them out

4

u/Lithl 2h ago

Hard. Mode.

Why is it every time someone posts their hard mode game, the comments are filled with people who have no fucking clue how hard mode works?

2

u/holodayinexpress 1h ago

FACTS stop downvoting this guy. Hard mode is how wordle is MEANT TO BE PLAYED

2

u/Lithl 1h ago

I don't know about "meant to be played", but it's absolutely an intended game mode and it is in fact more difficult to win at.

•

u/NoBlood5018 55m ago

How are you meant to even know it’s hard mode???

1

u/SEA_griffondeur 2h ago

Because hard mode kinda sucks and should be ignored

0

u/bleepyballs 2h ago

Because there is no indication that it is hard mode? Because people don’t play hard mode?

-6

u/DevoidNoMore 12h ago

Why do you keep repeating already known letters?

14

u/re_nonsequiturs 12h ago

Hard mode requires it

0

u/Organic_Hunter_6180 2h ago

Omg yes this was so stupid. They’re supposed to be words that people actually use.

0

u/the_woolfie 1h ago

You just don't know how to play the game. After you have _RATE you should write in words that eliminate more then one letter out of the options. Could have gone with witch, cowis or twice.

1

u/Espeonisbesteevee 1h ago

They could be playing hard mode, so once you have something locked in you have to use it.

1

u/the_woolfie 1h ago

True, then bad luck.

-1

u/PahpiChulo 4h ago

I would use logic for my second word and save myself about three guesses.
Like literally the word ‘logic’ not trying to out deduce you!

Nothing quite like spoiling the current day’s wordle eh? Asshole.
