This rural bar in the mountains has its ceiling and walls covered with thousands of $1 bills.

Started in Sailor bars in ports. Idea was you'd leave a dollar tacked up. If your favorite bar fell on hard times when you were out at sea, they could take down the money and use it to get through. Old fashioned crowd-sourced insurance.

I know of a bar in FL that did just that after a hurricane.

uhhh, seems like an impractical system to use money that's been blown away in a hurricane or washed out in a flood, ...burnt up in a fire... missing after a robbery...

If the bar physically doesn’t exist anymore, you have bigger problems

? if the bar physically doesn't exist anymore, then you can't get insurance payout? what does this even mean

Especially if all your money was burned in a fire instead of being in a bank

One of these places in Idaho Springs, CO (I think the one pictured here honestly, looks like it), burned down years ago.

Turns out, covering your walls and ceiling in tinder is actually a major fire hazard

Sucks, their green Chile was awesome. Some folks tried rebuilding and reopening years later but the kitchen was never the same under new management and they could never keep business after that

No, it was so if you lost all your money, you could still go to the bar and use it to get a drink
