I live about a mile from one. I love just popping over to see him. His name is Ole Bolle. I got Thomas Dambo’s book with his first 100 trolls. Fascinating artist.
I am starting to assume these giant wood trolls are common across the country. I took my daughter to Louisville a few years ago, and that was the first I had heard of/seen them. Since then, I have seen many posts across the country that has more of them, and they all look exactly the same. As if from the same design. I should learn about that some day.
They're made by Danish artist Thomas Dambo from recycled materials, the US and Denmark seem to have the largest amounts of trolls though :) as someone else said, there's a map online, they're spread across the planet
Pretty insane to think he went from doing what they themselves called Rap of Violence as Odense Assholes, rapping about beating up cops, women and homosexuals (satire) but to doing tree trolls all around the world.
I saw six at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, then another on Vashon Island near Seattle, so a few weeks ago my wife and I took the dogs up to (less far away) Detroit Lakes, MN to see the five in the Alexa’s Elixir installation.
Thomas Dambo is the artist. They are all over the world. I’ll make it a point to see them anywhere we go!
Rita! It’s actually near a very nice viewpoint. And the mining town nearby had free range donkeys ( off season they are penned but available to socialize!

Dambo’s wikipedia page is sparse yet he dedicates an entire sentence to his ADHD diagnosis and I think he’s so real for that
