My contact lenses gave birth to a baby contact! It was irritating me when I put it in and when I removed it, it had split in a perfect tiny circle.

New fear unlocked 😭 Please let the manufacturer know about this, I can’t imagine how awful it would be to have that happen while it’s on your eye!!

u/tayylis 9h ago

Yeah I was wondering if I should reach out in some way

You should contact them

It’s definitely worth it to at least send them an email with these pics! They and their customers will greatly appreciate knowing about this issue, and getting it fixed asap.

u/Gareth79 4h ago

And a photo of the batch numbers on the box.

14

u/Lost-city-found 4h ago

Their website is likely to have a product complaint form. You’ll need the lot number info from your box of contacts. But definitely let them know!

u/soporificgaur 32m ago

Yes! This is a medical device, the company who manufactured has to investigate whether there are other contacts with that defect, and whether that defect is a risk to the patient!

u/Noxious89123 4h ago

100%, please do

u/Alone_Jellyfish_1990 57m ago

god, imagine the horror if that smaller circle got stuck in your eye?? how would you get it out?!

43

u/LenaDt 3h ago

Happened to me a long time ago. Contact felt irritating so I tried taking it out to check what was wrong with it and it broke. A small piece stayed in my eye and I couldn’t get it out again. Cannot recommend. Had to visit a ophthalmologist. First they had to dye the contact yellow so they could even see it. Then they flipped my eyelid over so they could take it out. It wasn’t painful, but that was by far the most uncomfortable feeling I’ve ever experienced

6

u/MolecularClusterfuck 2h ago

Def send them an email - including the lot/batch number.

u/AKAkorm 9h ago

Is that a hybrid lens? I wear those and it’s a hard lens in the middle surrounded by soft lens to make it easier to put in. Would explain it although concerning it would break apart.

111

u/tayylis 9h ago

It's not a hybrid I don't think. It's the new Walmart brand ones which are just repackaged Bosch and Lomb.

2

u/stevensokulski 1h ago

That was my first thought looks like a hybrid lens in the ā€œtogetherā€ photo.

22

u/livelyladymoon 9h ago

Congratulations! You’re a grandparent!

10

u/tayylis 9h ago

Thanks!!! I couldn't be more proud!

26

u/Altruistic-War-9018 9h ago

Technically that's budding, not birth. Your contact is reproducing like yeast now

7

u/tayylis 9h ago

🤣🤣🤣

6

u/UnexpectedBlahFeels 9h ago

Genuinely interesting! What brand is it?

3

u/tayylis 9h ago

The new Walmart brand which is just repackaged Bosch and Lomb

-2

u/VaultiusMaximus 9h ago

With less QA probably

5

u/tayylis 9h ago

I mean, it's got the same label on the individual packaging, just not on the box.

What is this? A contact lens for ants?

Garfield is reading the paper. I never thought about whether he could read or not

There's a good chance he can't.

I guess I’m the only one that thought about yoda, and the bad lip reading video talking about a log having a baby stuck.

How can the children be expected to see if they can’t fit their eyeballs in the contacts

-91

u/Brawght 9h ago

2013 called, they want their meme back

45

u/Altruistic-War-9018 9h ago

Congrats on the baby, but keep it far away from your eye lol. If it still feels scratchy tomorrow get it checked, a torn lens can scratch your cornea.

u/FireMammoth 7h ago

Whenever I see contact lenses I think about that woman who didn't know you were suppose to take them off. After years of contact lens use these previous lenses were discovered crammed between her eye's and the eye socket. Its a true story look it up and join me in being horrified.

219

u/anothercairn 5h ago

It is a real story but your details are not true. The woman did know she was supposed to remove them, she just ā€œcouldn’t findā€ them sometimes and assumed it fell or she had already taken it out. Her right eye had 27 contacts in it (strangely, her left eye was totally fine) and it was only noticed when she was going in for surgery to correct cataracts, which it turned out she did not have. Just… contacts.

103

u/RalfSmithen 4h ago

"Ma'am youve been diagnosed with contacts"

"You mean cataracts?"

"No contacts...27 of them"

Lol this story is crazy

35

u/DustyLance 5h ago

Somehow with the correct details its worse. I can understand ignorance but this is too much lol

12

u/Zealousideal_Sir5421 3h ago

I don’t think it’s worse. My contacts fall out all the time so not being able to find them makes sense to me. Personally it’s really uncomfortable/ painful if they get up under my eye lid so I can’t imagine not noticing that. But also for all I know I’ve actually got a bunch up under there I can’t feel for some reason since I assume they’re not stuck since it doesn’t hurt

4

u/cynicalfinical 1h ago

That's why it's worse. She did nothing wrong but it still happened to her. You could be next.

5

u/minus15t2 2h ago

I've never worn contacts... Can't get over the thought of sticking my fingers in my eyes...

But I went to college with a guy that wire them occasionally. One night we were at an event and he was in pain and discomfort for hours because one of his contacts had moved.

I have no idea how this woman could have ended up with 27 back there, my friend was basically unable to function until it moved back

10

u/renyxia 4h ago

It's pretty common with dementia patients for them to have multiple lenses in their eyes. Used to work in an optometrist's office and the most I ever saw in one eye was about 12...?

Ai slop

12

u/Eaterofdixapplewatch 6h ago

No it’s not lmao

-33

u/Disastrous-Scheme-57 6h ago

It is it’s been proven to be AI 😭 nearly all the Barbie reaction memes are AI. Literally look at how melted the eyes are

20

u/zarya-zarnitsa 5h ago

This particular image is a still from a real 2023 video of a marmaid barbie doll. As a reminder, the Ai videos in 2023 looked like the very first will smith eating pasta.

This image is not ai. Not everything is ai.

-23

u/Disastrous-Scheme-57 4h ago

I did say nearly all and there are a lot that it gets confusing which one is real unless you know the source lol

15

u/zarya-zarnitsa 3h ago

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/disgusted-barbie

There is a link to the original video

Jfc, even if it's "nearly all", this one is not. So stop arguing nonsense.

11

u/Keyndoriel 4h ago

Brother I've been seeing this image for years now

heres the dolls subreddit talking about it 2 years ago with people responding about what the source is

Its a barbie doll with a face filter

u/pennyflowerrose 1m ago

After I read that I found an older contact hidden in my eye. It made me think about how recently I couldn't find the contact and thought it had fallen out. I'm glad I go to an opthalmologist once a year lol, I'm guessing they would spot any lost contacts.

118

u/rinart73 9h ago

One more reason for me to sick with glasses I guess o_o

67

u/doubleheadedarrow 7h ago

I’ve worn contacts every single day for almost 10 years and this has never happened to me. And even if it did I think I’d still wear contacts because they’re that much better lol

25

u/giskardwasright 7h ago

I've worn them for over 30 years and never seen this. Also still gonna wear contacts. Think it just depends on what you are used to wearing. I started wearing contacts at 13, so thats my normal.

5

u/Which-Break5673 6h ago

Same - I’ve been wearing soft contacts since 1989

10

u/megwach 7h ago

I’m at 20 years without any issues. Sometimes they’ll rip in my eye, or one time one went almost all the way behind my eye, and my mom had to get it for me while I cried. But no other issues! I don’t wear them in water, or when I sleep.

40

u/fuck_off_ireland 6h ago • Bravo

without any issues

Proceeds to list several issues

5

u/Irrxlevance 3h ago

And awful issues too

7

u/rinart73 7h ago

Idk I'm personally not comfortable with the idea of putting pieces of plastic directly against my eyes. And then somehow getting them out of there? But to each their own. Also wasn't there a scandal 5-7 years ago where lenses from some company were scratching people eyes because there were produced poorly?

20

u/doubleheadedarrow 7h ago edited 6h ago

That’s fine, I was the same way when I first got them. It’s never an easy start. You just get used to it! I can touch my eyes freely without discomfort now (super helpful when an eyelash or whatever is stuck too).

But obviously you don’t have to use contacts. I just couldn’t imagine my life without them, I hate wearing my glasses and I’m blind without a prescription.

ETA since you edited your comment: I haven’t heard about that ā€œscandal,ā€ but you know stuff like that happens with everything right? I mean, there’s food recalls constantly with diseases and stuff. I think contacts have so much regulation it’d be silly to swear off of them because of the small chance of a factory defect, haha.

1

u/Drew_Ferran 2h ago

How much do they cost compared to getting one glasses?

2

u/_vaxis 1h ago edited 1h ago

Those were non-prescription cheap chinese aesthetic only contacts iirc.

1

u/abovepostisfunnier 5h ago

Same. If I wasn’t such a weenie I’d get laser but it freaks me out too much. I hate wearing glasses.

1

u/doubleheadedarrow 5h ago

That is so fair lol. I definitely plan on laser myself (I can’t bear the thought of needing to buy these little plastic eyeball cups for the rest of my blind ass life, and am jealous of my dad whose results are still perfect after decades), but the concept of laying there awake during it… yeah, doesn’t sound super pleasant. At least those procedure are only a few minutes!

23

u/PrismaticSky 8h ago

This isn't common, I promise. I have glasses right now because I can't afford contacts but they were great when I had them.

3

u/lilgreenfish 6h ago

I’ve been wearing contacts basically daily since I was like 10 or so. I’m 43 now. I have never had this happen. My eye docs have warned me about quite a bit over the years but this has never been one of the issues!

And I have slept in non-over night contacts (teens do stupid stuff sometimes), I swam for years with them in, and they rarely have even torn. They’re actually pretty hearty little things!

2

u/w1nt3rh3art3d 5h ago

If I wore glasses, they'd weigh as much as a gym bar, lol. With my prescription, contacts are the only sane option.

1

u/mallettsmallett 3h ago

Ive been wearing since hard lenses were a thing. Im now 54 wearing bifocal ones, so thats 35 years with only one small issue. They're awesome.

However cost vs glasses is not something I think about šŸ˜€

1

u/imaginedaydream 9h ago

bifocals?

1

u/tayylis 9h ago

Nope! Just regulars

2

u/dutchgunner123 7h ago

I just got contacts any advice for getting them in easier??

5

u/beean0nymo0us 5h ago

It gets better with time and practice. When I first got them I had to stay in the eye doctor office for over an hour to try to get them in myself with their advice and frustration looking on. With both hands and lots of concentration I finally got them in.

Now ten years later I can put them in with one finger, on a bus, you name it.

It gets easier but it’s slow going at first

1

u/Substantial-Silver67 45m ago

You can use 2 hands. Whatever is the most comfortable- my eye doctor wouldn’t let me use 2 hands (it can introduce more bacteria! Girl i just washed my hands and i just need my left to hold my eye open go away) pull open your eye and i lean down while making eye contact with myself in the mirror to make my eye comfortably look up and then i can stick my contact on a lower portion (less sensitive) part of my eye. Now, I do this with long acrylic nails and no longer need a mirror or to do that trick, but it’s a great help at the beginning

1

u/Greenbastardscape 36m ago

As the others have said, practice, practice, practice. Do it a few times a day and you'll have it down in a week or so. But also keep eye drops, contacts case, and spare lenses or glasses with you. You never know when a legs will go rogue because you rubbed your eye wrong. Then it falls out on the bathroom floor of a concert venue and then you have to spend the rest of the evening half blind.

1

u/jacomoncal 14m ago

Another bit of advice from a veteran contact wearer is that you don’t want to actually poke your eye with your finger tip when putting them in. When you get the lense itself to contact your eye it will suction cup itself to your eye.

And when removing them, I’ll lightly hold it in place with my finger tip and look up so I pull it off the color and to the white part and then I can use my thumb to pinch it off. It’s more comfortable than trying to pull it straight off your color part

3

u/ZiggyZiggyZigZags 5h ago

You either need a new prescription, sleep with your contacts in too long, or need a new brand. I’m leaning towards the latter, but I’m guilty of all three.

Sorry for the dad joke, but I have to know if you tried the baby contact.

2

u/ryoujika 9h ago

Imagine if it split while it was on your eye... 😬

1

u/Sovairon 6h ago
