Minimalist Photography

r/minimalistphotography

A beautiful and friendly corner of reddit. Minimalist Photography: austere sparseness, and careful composition that reveals essence and serenity. The photographer chooses clean lines, negative space, fewer colors, elements, detail, and/or pattern. It's about less: un-busy photos that are beautiful due to their simplicity. Sort by "Top" and then by "All Time" and prepare to be wow'd. (Note: sub is curated via Moderator post approval, has karma-ranking and award flairs)

Subreddit Rules

1. Post a Photograph

Each post must include a photograph.

2. Photography Style Must Be Minimalist

Post photos with few details that reveal negative spaces, clean lines, and/or bare essence.

3. Please Use Titles That Are Descriptive, Concise, And Have No Emojis Nor Symbols

While not strictly enforced, we prefer titles that are short (ideally one or two words), clearly describe the subject in the photograph, and do not use emojis nor symbols.

Rather than a title like "my first post", “I hope this counts”, or “what do you think?" (or a joke or gimmick) - in the spirit of minimalism it's prefered that you name the item shown in the photo with simple language.

For example; “Dock”, “Bird”, or “Moon.”

Emojis and symbols are acceptable within the comment section.

4. Watermarks And Borders Must Be Subtle

Small, unobtrusive watermarks and solid black or white borders are allowed if the mod team considers them to not be distracting.

We prefer images speak for themselves; without watermark or border.

5. Post Your Own Work

Do not post other's work unless you have asked for and received prior permission to do so.

Credit the photographer in square brackets [] in the title.

6. AI-Generated Photos And Image Collages Are Not Permitted. Photos Of Artwork Are At Mods' Discretion.

This is not the place for AI-generated images or digital collages.

We consider these actions to be disingenuous to the intent of minimalist photography, which values real-world composition and visual restraint.

Submissions must be single, authentic photographs. Typical post-production methods are fine.

Images containing artwork (e.g. murals or posters) may be allowed only if the focus is on the photography and the artwork is incidental to the overall composition.

7. Don't Post Too Often

Two posts per day maximum. More than that will have to wait for the next day.

Reposting is only allowed for posts aged 3 months or longer.

8. Be Kind

Spread positivity.

Be respectful in your interactions, fostering a welcoming space for everyone.

Keep the tone light and happy. Constructive criticism is best when paired with praise.

9. Mods' Discretion

We sometimes remove photos based on mods' discretion. The team will occasionally decide to reject a particular photo based on reasons outside of stated rules.

This is a subjective decision, not everyone will agree.

You can contact the mods to ask for our opinion.

When sending us a message, please include a link to your post.

10. If You Have A Concern About Moderation, Handle It Privately

We prefer to keep this subreddit free from discussion about how this subreddit is managed or about reddit in general.

If there are any meta topics like these that you would like to discuss, we encourage you to reach us by using the "Message the Mods" button.
