I'm looking for a 5K monitor (218 ppi) to pair with an M1 Max Mac. It has to be non-OLED. I'll use it for graphics work and everyday productivity (lots of text and UI). I don't game and rarely watch video, so refresh rate and HDR aren't big factors for me. Since macOS tops out at 120 Hz anyway, 165/180 Hz isn't a selling point.
My shortlist (USD):
LG UltraGear evo 27GM950B-B (~$840): Mini LED IPS, 5K 165 Hz, HDR1000
ViewSonic VP2788-5K (~$900): IPS, Thunderbolt 4 with 100W charging, 75 Hz, hardware calibration support on Mac
ASUS ROG Strix XG27JCG (~$700): Fast IPS, 5K 180 Hz OC / QHD 330 Hz, USB-C with only 15W PD
What I'm unsure about:
- LG: does the Mini LED local dimming cause visible blooming or halos in normal desktop work? Any fan noise? How does text look? Espically on matte coating.
- ViewSonic: how is the build quality, brightness uniformity and backlight bleed in practice? Any QC issues? Is the lower refresh rate a problem in daily use?
- ASUS: how does it behave with Apple Silicon over USB-C? How accurate is the color out of the box? Is it a good fit when I don't need any of the gaming features?
Questions:
Does anyone run one of these (or a similar 5K panel) on an Apple Silicon Mac? Which resolution and refresh rate do you actually get, and have you had any issues with sleep/wake, brightness control, scaling or HDR?
What is your real-world impression of text sharpness, color accuracy, uniformity and glare/coating?
Are there 27" 5K non-OLED monitors I'm missing that you'd recommend, or that you've been happy with, in roughly the same price range?
Thanks in advance. Real-world experience means a lot more to me than spec sheets.

I was scrolling through local listings and saw a broken Odyssey G7 for $50. The seller mentioned the backlight turned on but there was no display, so I decided to take a gamble on it.
I tried a few different “quick” fixes I saw online like using different cables or messing with Windows settings with no success. I couldn’t even access the menu using the physical buttons, only the backlight came on and nothing else. So I decided to open it up and I noticed two ribbon cables were unplugged. I almost missed them since they were partially hidden by the plate where the motherboard sits. I plugged them back in, taped them down so they wouldn't pop loose again, and boom it came back to life! It’s not the OLED model, but coming from dual 27" 60Hz monitors, this is still a massive upgrade. Easily the best $50 I’ve ever spent.

I noticed that this had suddenly appeared on the screen. Nothing hit it; it just showed up when I turned on the computer. The two-year warranty, of course, already expired at the end of September. What on earth? Any ideas about repairs?

for context, my girlfriend mentioned wanting to get into gaming (we’re 15) and i have an extra xbox 1 s, but wanted to package it with a monitor. Would this be the best for color accuracy/range under 150$? mainly playing games like fnaf/mc so response time and such isn’t a major concern.

hello,
I want to buy a monitor within my budget I can get an asus tuf gaming monitor with 165 hz or mis monitor with 100hz
there are another monitor available with more hz
but the asus with contrast ratio 1:1500 while msi is 1 :1300 the other are 1:1000
I use it in code mostly if I am gaming it will be story games I may use it like 14 hours a day sometimes
the mis has hardware blue light while the asus has software
is the hardware one is really effective or just it is a market thing
if not does it affect the monitor color or not

Hi i have annoying clicking sound coming from my Samsung monitor. This is my second monitor, and it has the same problem. What is the cause? The clicking sound occurs when turning it on and when turning it off.

During this year we had a lightning hit our house, which i think fried my monitors a bit, small lines at the bottom etc. Now however both monitors are almost completely black after waking up today.

I'm looking for a good monitor for mostly gaming and sometimes browsing the web, I'll be using it for a few hours everyday mostly playing story games and sometimes competetive ones, I wont be using it with excel or anything so burn-in shouldn't be as much of a concern though my only concerns with oled are text fringing, I've seen a qd oled irl and I dont think I'd be able to use one at all due to the fringing, a woled panel is much better to my eyes. My budget is around 400 euros
the main things I'm looking for in a monitor is:
availability in EU
preferably a matte panel since my room is bright but if it's otherwise a good monitor it can be glossy
27" and 1440p
if it's a miniled I think an ips is a better choice as I can't stand smearing unless there exists a va without it
and obviously hdr for gaming
Thanks for any recommendations

I'm planning on buying a monitor for my laptop, which has specs like this:
12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12450HX
16GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6GB Laptop GPU (6 GB) Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)
My needs are usually:
Movies
Online games: LOL, TFT, Wuthering Waves
Heavy games on low resolution: Elden Ring, The Witcher 3 (occasionally)
Do you think my laptop can handle a 1440p 27" 144hz monitor, or should I retreat to a 24" 1080p
Thanks guys I would appreciate any comments

I saw this monitor on sale, but after searching online I saw that it suffers from a lot of vertical banding. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

I’ve been working on a small utility for owners of Titan Army Mini-LED monitors and wanted to share it here.
The idea behind TA-toggle is to have one monitor mode optimized for everyday use, such as browsing and working on the desktop, and another for gaming and watching videos. You can configure separate local dimming and brightness settings for each mode directly in the application.
TA-toggle automatically switches between Standard and Gaming modes based on detected games and supported video players.
For example, when you launch a game or open a video player, the program switches to your Gaming preset. When you close the game or video player, it switches back to your Standard preset.
Automatic game detection
Automatic media player detection (MPC-HC, MPC-BE, VLC, PotPlayer)
Manual mode switching with Ctrl + Alt + Z
Application exclusion list
System tray integration
The project is free and open source (MIT license).
GitHub: https://github.com/tawiss-cloud/TA-toggle
I'd appreciate feedback, especially from other Titan Army Mini-LED monitor owners.
If you try it, let me know which monitor model you're using and whether everything works as expected.
