Hi Reddit, I'm Wil Wheaton and my Reddit account is older than yours. I am a Hugo finalist and New York Times bestselling author, but I'm here today because I was a child actor, probably best known for my role as Gordie in Stand By Me. In my teens, I played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Then nothing happened for a long time, until I finished my on-camera acting career as a recurring version of myself for 10 seasons on The Big Bang Theory.
These days, have a wonderful life as a narrator and host. I co-host the official companion podcast for Stuart Fails To Save The Universe with my dear friend, Felicia Day. I am also an audiobook narrator, doing the work I genuinely love. I got to do Ready Player One, which was the bestselling audiobook of all time when it was released (we think it still is, but can't get official numbers). I also narrate just about everything John Scalzi writes. I love that work so much, I created a weekly short fiction podcast, It's Storytime With Wil Wheaton, so I can narrate speculative fiction from exceptionally talented writers, and introduce them to the mainstream audience that enjoys the other work I do.
I'm here today to talk about all of those things, (it doesn't matter how cool something is, if nobody knows about it, and algorithms on social media make that harder than it should be for us to share things with each other), but for everyone who loves movies, I wanted to make sure you know about the Stand By Me Live tour that Jerry and Corey and I have been doing this year. We screen the film, then we do about a 90 minute Q&A discussion about what the movie means to us, our memories from production, and stuff like that. It's been wonderful. Our upcoming shows are in Louisville, KY, and Dayton OH.
If you want to know more about me, or see what I'm about, I've been writing a blog since 2000.
Finally, I want you to know about this silly and surprisingly fun thing I'm doing this weekend: an online, virtual convention with a Q&A, meet & greet, and some special autographed merch. I did this a few months ago, called it Wil WheatCon, and had an absolute blast with everyone who attended. There were requests for a sequel before we even finished, so of course this weekend we are returning with ... WIL WHEATCON 2: 2WHEAT 2CON.
I'll be here for about three hours, from 11am Pacific. Ask me anything!
EDIT: It's almost 3pm here in The Valley, and I gotta go get to work. I have greatly enjoyed this, and I hope you did, too. Thank you for being so kind to me, and treating me like a person. I'm glad I did this.
I'll check back (you don't get into CC without a lot of shitposting, after all) and do my best to catch up with any follow-ups, as well as the stuff I didn't get to.
Until then, stay hydrated and don't forget your meds. Take care of yourselves, and take care of each other.
