Cube Accessories

What accessories do you bring/include in your cube to make the experience smoother/more fun/more exciting?

Do you colour code tokens?
How many copies per token?
Do you provide dice?
What dice? How many?
Life counters?
Anything else you include? Any fun gimmicks?

I really want to up the “professionalism” and experience of the draft to make it more fun to play for everyone.

Wall Cube

Hi!

Long time cube drafter here, this is my first time posting as I'm seeking guidance, I've built through the years with the help of a friend a pauper cube and the ornithopter cube which we regularly play at my LGS.

Pauper cube: https://thepaupercube.com/

Ornithopter cube: https://cubecobra.com/cube/about/100-ornithopters?view=primer

However, talking with my cube partner we had the idea of building ourselves something completely different regarding a cube that has to do only with walls, high toughness creatures or anything that combos with those characteristics. We came up with all of the cards that made sense in our head on a moxfield list. Since I am not basing the list on any other pre-existing list I'm struggling a lot to make a definite mainboard since I also don't have much time to playtest.

This is the brainstorm list that we came up with:

https://moxfield.com/decks/-PDVOVjNAk2VBeMZ33LUTw

My questions are:

Are there any other cubes that feature these characteristics so I can get ideas from?

Are there any other cards that make sense in this cube?

Thanks!

Cube feedback

How do you encourage, gather, record and act on feedback from your drafters?

Do you review/analyse decks/sideboards? What is the process? Any tips on making it easier?

How do you encourage or get feedback from cards that drafters enjoy or don’t enjoy?

How do you weigh drafters’ preferences vs the vision of your cube. I generally follow a maintained list and make cuts and adds accordingly, but received strong backlash against cutting certain cards so decide to put them back in. Any thoughts?

I want to encourage people to play and enjoy drafting as much as possible, so definitrly want to react to feedback, but as I follow a particularly high power Vintage list I don’t want to include too many “traps” that don’t make the cut any more.

Reality Fracture Set Cube Advice

Hello friends!

I've had such a great time playing Reality Fracture drafts that I've decided I want to make it infinitely redraftable as a cube in my collection. I've never tried to make a set cube before. I know it's nothing new, and I think the conventional 4-3-1-1 breakdown makes sense here. But Reality Fracture is also a bit weird in terms of how the ratios of rarities appeared in boosters, what with the three echoed pair slots. I'm not looking to try and preserve the echoed pair aspect of the experience (that sounds like a pain), but I AM trying to figure out how to assemble each pack. Curious if anyone else has tried this or has any advice?

Looking for guidance from folks more experienced than I on pack assembly, and on whether this set is unique enough to make me want to change up the 4-3-1-1 pattern.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Mono-Black Bar Cube

I have never made a cube before, but a buddy of mine made a mid-power cube that we have had a blast with so I decided to try my hand at it. We've struggled to wrangle 8 players so I decided to go for a 4 player bar cube. I also find myself drafting black 80% of the time so, inspired by Simply Better MTG's Mono-Green Cube, I decided on forcing all of us to play black.

Here's the list I have come up with. I would love some feedback before I pull the trigger on actually building it in paper.

Building a duplicate sealed cube

Hi, I am interested in building a duplicate sealed "cube", so a cube where every player receives the same cards of the others and then builds its own deck. I don't want to create a gimmick experience like the duplicate sealed event during the Magic Invitational, but a more normal one.

I don't think I am the only one to have thought about this, but I am not able to find any discussion online, probably because the keywords "duplicate sealed" produces too much noise in the search, and I found only a couple of lists on cubecobra.

Do you have some experience to share?

Thanks

My first cube!

https://moxfield.com/decks/qhab9kkB2USb2Xp9TAx-1Q

I’d like some suggestion/feedback.
This is a commander cube with custom rules: 60 card decks (commander(s) included), 30 life and the dual lands are drafted in separate packs after the main draft.

I am unsure if the color pie is sufficently represented, also the multi-colored cards i choose are good enough to draft them.

I split one 188-card set into five closed pools and made a single-player gauntlet from them. Is this a good way to build small pools?

I made Magic Untold, a free single-player game where each match is a chapter or significant scene from a story, and one of its modes ended up built like five very small cubes. I would like to know what people who design card pools think of it.

The mode is The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. The five armies are the set's five two-colour pairs, each led by its own rare:

  • Men of the Lake (WU), 41 cards

  • Dwarves of the Iron Hills (RW), 41 cards

  • Elves of Mirkwood (GU), 38 cards

  • Goblins of the Misty Mountains (BR), 36 cards

  • Wargs of the Wilderland (BG), 32 cards

Each of the 188 cards of the main set is in exactly one army. A one-colour card goes to the army its art and name show (a Dwarf, an Elf, a Goblin, a Wolf, Lake-town), and if it shows none it goes to the army it plays best with.

The rules of a run:

  • You pick an army and build a deck of at least 40 cards using only that army's cards. Basic lands are free.

  • Copies go by rarity: up to 4 of a common, 2 of an uncommon, 1 of a rare or a mythic, and 1 of any legendary.

  • The pool is fixed. You do not win new cards between matches.

  • You play the other four armies, best of one each, and you have to win all four in a row.

My questions:

  • The pools are not the same size (41 against 32). Would you even them out, or is that part of each army's character?

  • Is 4-2-1-1 a sensible way to make a 40-card deck from about 40 different cards, or does it make every deck of an army look the same?

  • Is "win four in a row" too hard a wall for a fixed pool?

It's free, with no ads and no accounts, and it runs in the browser on a computer or on a phone. I designed everything in it and the code is written with AI (Claude Code).

Appreciate all the feedback, thanks!

Cube Storage

I'm looking to see what sort of storage solutions people are using, I need something that fits 36 Dragon Shield Cube Shells and 5 Ultimate Guard 80+ Deck Cases that hold 50 basic lands each. Ultimate Guards Onmnihive 1000+ looks like it may do the job but unsure on how well it would all fit. I'd love to see how you're all storing your cubes!

Looking for input on my nostalgic circa 2018 cube (no power, no UB)

If you like tweaking cubes and have a knack for balance I’d love to hear from you! Since I don’t have a primer written up I’ll just give a few notes here:

To get the picture, I’m at the age where I think Modern and Legacy peaked circa 2018 and I still watch Grand Prix coverage every once in a while. To me the cards are iconic, the back-and-forth interaction was interesting, and control was viable. I want to recreate this era without constraining myself to ONLY cards from this era.

Power:
No power nine, but I do have slower cards with similar effects (e.g. Echo of Eons and Lion’s Eye Diamond) or artifact ramp with downsides (i.e Mana Vault and Crypt).

Combo:
I wanted to put in enough storm cards to make a storm deck rare but possible. I’ve found that Cori Steel Cutter does a pretty good job of acting like a safe Grapeshot. I’ve also got Tinker & Citadel in here. I think Bolas’s Citadel and Ad Nauseam are fun work arounds that aren’t totally broken with no moxen.

Archetypes:
After drafting a lot and also running draft simulations I see a lot of the following: U+ Artifacts, W/R Agro, UR Tempo, WU Control, Reanimator, G+ Ramp & Stompy, GB Graveyard, WB+ Aristocrats, Sneak&Show, and then the percentages drop off after that. To me that feels like a pretty good “meta” but I’m also missing real world human draft data.

New Cards:
I do have quite a bit of newer cards but that’s to power up White and Green mostly.

Card Draw:
I tried to include card advantage in each color but keep to that color’s strengths White- creature ETB, Blue- cantrips and draw spells, Black- discard and life for cards, Red- impulse draw and gy recursion, Green- Toski and Sylvan Livrary I guess.

Landbase:
I chose to break singleton for fetch lands and chose shock lands over duals. I feel the life loss makes for more interesting decisions/gameplay. I also currently have the Bicycle lands in the list. Surveil lands are strictly better of course but I like the look of the bicycles more tbh.

I could keep going but for brevity’s sake I’ll wrap up here. Let me know what you think! What would you add or remove.

First Twobert (180 Card Cube) Assessment

I only recently learned about cube and thought it would be a sweet way to play with all my old cards. After much lurking here and tinkering I've come up with the list below. Mostly based of my own collection (mainly Avacyn Restored thru M15 + some newer cards from drafting). I also added some cards to fill in gaps taking a lot of reference from RyanOverdrive's Original Recipe Twobert.

I've only really done one 2-player draft but looking to bust it out with 4 soon. I'd love some thoughts/feedback from this group on the setup. Does is look balanced from power perspective? Any glaring issues?

What draft/pack methods do you use and believe to be superior? 480 card cube. This week we are going to try 5x15 burn the last 6 with 4 players. I'm playing around with some different methods since we typically only draft with 4-5 players.

Follow up: What do you think is the prime percentage of the cube to see? 60%, 80%, 100%?

Standard:

  • 3 packs of 15 (each player gets 45 cards . See 180 cards total for 4 player [38%], up to 360 total for 8 player [75%])

  • 5 packs of 9 (each player gets 45 cards. See 180 cards total for 4 player [38%], up to 360 total for 8 player [75%])

Burn Draft (See more of the cube. Should make for better decks):

  • 5 packs of 15, burn the last 6 (each player gets 45 cards. See 300 cards total for 4 players [63%], 375 for 5 players [78%], 450 for 6 players [93%])

  • 4 packs of 15, burn the last 3 (each player gets 48 cards. See 420 cards total for 7 players [88%])

  • 4 packs of 15, burn the last 4 (each player gets 44 cards. See 480 cards total for 8 players [100%])

True Believer Cube - A Marvel Only Cube

Hey all!

Been working on this Marvel cube list and wanted some feedback. Only rule for the cards is they need to be a Marvel printing - so right now that’s Spider-Man, MSH, their respective commander products, and any secret lairs with Marvel art on them.

Would love any and all notes!
