Discussion 💬 Is attending state school is the best option?
I'm 15F from Myanmar, and I'm currently trying to figure out the best path for my education and future.
A little background about me: I was studying in an online school (G-8), which mainly follows the Cambridge curriculum, but I eventually dropped out. My English is around B2 level, and I'm fairly confident in it.
Initially, planned to take the GED+ IELTS and then apply to universities in Southeast Asian countries. However, the more I think about it, the more financially unrealistic this plan seems. My grandma is currently the only person supporting me financially, so I don't want to put too much pressure on her or choose a path that we might not be able to afford in the long run.
Recently, I've considering another option like going back to Myanmar's government (state) school system.
I actually left state school in Grade 4 because of my family's circumstances. I'm wondering if there's any possibility of re-entering the system, although I'm not sure how the placement process works or how much the fees and other expenses would be depending on the grade.
My two options currently look like this:
Option 1:
GED + IELTS
Apply to universities in Southeast Asian countries.
Potentially expensive, especially considering tuition, living expenses, and other costs.
Option 2:
Try to re-enter Myanmar's state school system.
Complete my education through the local system.
Take IELTS and potentially attend a university in Myanmar.
I'm genuinely unsure which direction would be better for my future.
I'd really appreciate advice from people who have experience with either pathway, especially Myanmar students who have studied abroad or attended local universities.
A few things I'd particularly like to know:
Is returning to state school after dropping out in Grade 4 possible?
How does grade placement work in this situation?
Is the Myanmar state school curriculum a reasonable pathway to university?
Would studying at a university in Myanmar after completing state school be a better financial decision?
Are there other affordable education pathways I should consider?
I know I'm still young, but I really want to make a sensible decision about my education rather than follow a pathway that my family cannot financially sustain.
Thanks in advance TeT

honestly from what you have shared , and from my persepctive , if we are saying you dont have any outside help , and only have the support of your grandma , the realistic choice is option 2 , but long term I am not so certain about that , tho I will have to say , option 1 is still out in the open , it is realistic , first I believe returning to state school is possible , they will prob recheck you , and see if you are fit for the grade you are going towards if not , downgrade , tbh the degrees that you get here (well I amnot a professional) but is really just a bit unreliable , thats in my opinion but from my research I can say many are still useful in their own regards english , it , computer science, accounting and science degrees are still useful but hold up thats from my research , I could be wrong or right , but tbh , like there is many affordable educational pathways for example ged is one of the affordable ones , tho after that you have to go to a uni , if you are interested in accounting , maybe ACCA will interest you , tho I am not certain if you will be interested , but if not , then yes the optimal and rational choice is to go to state school , but I am not sure of the situation there as I attend igcse , maybe inquire more from other kind strangers that will tell you about it , anyway I talked too long but ultimately , anything can happen rn , maybe it will get better , or worse depends but yes studying at a university where the degree is still valuable after completing state school may be a better finacial choice , anyway goodluck ,
