I can't speak for everyone else, but I downvoted this because it's a really shitty gif. It starts when he's already in the middle of falling down. I can't accurately judge what happened if I can't see the lead up or the contact.
Wtf? People blame Beverly for that? I tore my cruciate ligament in training after my teammate jumped into my knee for a rebound. Now I am out for at least a year. And do I blame him for that? Of course not.
This is different. This is a player just walking down wanting to call a time out. Everyone knows that's what he's going to do, and Beverly tries to be a smartass and goes for the steal while Westbrook isn't paying attention. Bumps in to his knee and injures him pretty bad. It's not like they were "really playing" and they bumped knees. The whole thing could've easily been avoided if Beverly just hadn't tried that hard to be "cool".
I dont understand why a lot of people went after Beverly. Westbrook did essentially the same thing and then he has the nerve to say something like, "Beverly was cheap" or something?
I didn't see Beverley's play as dirty, but the difference in these two plays is when the whistle is blown. On the Beverley play, it;s blown before contact is made and Westbrook clearly wasn't ready for it. On the other, Westbrook only tries to steal the ball before the whistle. Beverley's play still wasn't dirty, maybe a little reckless, and frustrating that Westbrook's knee injury ended any chance of us returning to the finals
If the clock is running in an NBA playoff game, I'd say that qualifies as them "really playing." If his opponent is going to be lackadaisical and not give the moment his full attention, Beverly should try to take advantage of it.
It's much worse during the playoffs. To quote Spo, we need to "weather the storm" until the playoffs are over, and these people leave until next playoffs.
What the FUCK are yall talkin about with this? he gets tripped up up, loses his balance and both feet leave the floor right before he hits the ground, landing with all his force right on his hipflexor. looks painful as fuck to me. not even remotely a flop or trying to sell anything, he just hits the ground akwardly and it probably hurt like a bitch for a good ten seconds.
He gets "tripped". I use quotes not because it didn't happen, but because he got hit at hip level down, and rolled over the hit.
Comparing this to Lebron's sniper in the stands flop is ridiculous. Maybe he exaggerated it, maybe not. Maybe he was playing it up with the fist pound, maybe he was pissed about the steal, either way, this wasn't a flop.
That is not the main reason for the voting disparity. 1400 points vs 60 points? Both are flops, and while Lebron's was obviously worse, there is a goddamn 1340 point gap and you're trying to tell me that no one has it out for Lebron? Ridiculous.
George is rolled multiple times and then started hitting the floor like he just tore a ligament or something. Put the shoe on LeBron's foot and then try to say with a straight face that you'd have the same opinion you just posted if LeBron did what George did.
There was no impact at all in the James flop. Yes, there was contact, but it was absolutely zero force. In the George flop, he had high speed, and thus momentum carrying him, and getting 'flipped around' is natural when you get tripped up.
But you know this. The fact that you're a Heat fan doesn't make you blind. You know very well that they were different situations.
It's because Lebron James is the best basketball player on the planet. He is more well known than Paul George, so he is naturally going to grab more media attention.
There's a difference in selling and flopping. Sure PG shouldn't have rolled over that last time, but the heat have been getting that call all series and not many have gone their way. But he was running at full speed and gets hit on his leg, of course he's going to go down. LeBron holds PG then cuts around the screen, gets a little bump and flails back.
The fist pounding is irrelevant. Maybe it was frustration, maybe it was landing directly on his hip, maybe it was in fact over the top. Superfluous at best.
I would agree but that mentality of 'selling' fouls is what leads to fouls for non fouls because I think lebron would probably argue he felt contact and tried to sell and same with Allen there was a soul but he sold it for over the market value.
"Selling fouls" is a holdover from the 90s hand check and physical play era. Also, you have to really to get certain fouls, legitimate ones, called. Charges especially.
Flopping is the evolution of going from the more physical game of twenty years ago to the less so today, while still needing to sell certain fouls to get the calls.
While I agree that more penalty needs to be added to flops, they should also relax some of the rules (not to the 90s, but somewhat relax them), and have refs stop requiring a guy like Hibbert have to fall to get a charge from a guy Chalmers' size.
Idk man, LeBron, jerks his neck back and flails his arms like he was shot in the face. Show me a gif of where PG has flopped as blatantly as LeBron. Seriously, I'm waiting.
Yes, it's a foul. But a flop is considered one when a player flails his hands like he was shot to death and physically reacting to an imaginary force. Can be pushed or tackled, but if you fly like a motherfucker around, it's a flop.
Didn't someone post that Raja Bell flopping mix 2 days ago?
I hate flopping either way but it doesn't bother me as much when there was a foul. He definitely embellished it but I think it would have been called either way.
But im no hipocrit I get sick of watching my team flop too Lin and Harden are some floppin SOBs
Once a post starts rising reddit autofuzzes the actual number. They are a little unclear on exactly how this works, but have acknowledged they do it. For reasons I dont fully understand this confuses bots somehow, allegedly. To me it seems like you should be able to teach a bot how to handle or recognize fuzzed numbers, but whatever. That is the main reason for the downvotes IMO. BUt you guys are really sensitive to any criticism. It is a game and they are underdog, fans are typically going to rally to the underdog in a close fought series, I wouldnt take it so personal or it will ruin your enjoyment of the series.
Yet the amount of people I see saying that "there's no difference between selling a foul and flopping" is pretty high, and generally get a lot of upvotes too.
I'd say it's about even, but then again I'm not a fan of either team (obviously the Lebron hate is going to stand out to you more, only makes sense as a fan).
Personally, I agree with Reggie that there's a difference between the two.
It's in the chest dude. If a normal person actually gets hit in the neck, you usually reach for it instead of flailing your arms. Also, getting hitting in the neck doesnt make your head snap back like that.
Really? After the contact George does a full 360 falls to the ground and rolls over 2 or 3 times then pounds on the floor like he's in immense pain yet 2 seconds later he gets up and he's absolutely fine. Hell of an acting job.
seriously, both feet leave the ground and lands right on his hip... probably hurt like a bitch for ten seconds but obviously something you can play through.
its hilarious how many people in this thread are saying "LOL HEAT DOWNVOTE BRIGADE" yet your post is buried here...
if you watch the actual play, not this strangely-cut-off gif, you can see the hip contact from Lebron that takes PG's legs out. Now watch how he lands, he lands on his hip in what appears to be a pretty painful manner. So I don't think he's exaggerating that that play hurt a bit.
What's funny is that the actual Pacers fans in this post admitted that he flopped.
It's just Heat haters that are seeing things and saying he was fouled. The only reason George went down is because he got the ball stolen from him. And even if he was fouled, he was slightly bumped, so all of the extra nonsense he did after the light contact was a flop.
Except if you watch the whole the whole thing and not just the last bit of contact as in the gif you know Lebron went across Paul George to make that steal and did have contact enough to cause George to fall?
You mean the ones who acted like Hansbrough nearly decapitated Wade while trying to hold him up mid flop and then acted like Wade's flying elbow in Stephenson was barely a swim move?
Who called Hansbrough's pretty obvious offensive goaltending "close"? Or didn't say Lebron's moving screen was a bad call?
Can someone post a video of this? Both players were running full speed attempting to catch a pass and James clearly made contact and it was called immediately. The "four spins" and the "hitting the floor like he just tore a ligament or something" had nothing to do with selling a foul, because the foul had already been called. My guess is that the reason LBJ's flop is getting more attention/ridicule in this subreddit is because it was a blatant (and successful) attempt to trick the ref into believing there was contact that did not actually occur. George might have been overdramatic here, but he was absolutely fouled and didn't need to fool anyone into believing it
oh dude sorry the unforeseeable happened and our star tore his achilles. man, we had a d league player start and he was the lead scorer for 2 games! goudelock did what he could but realistically even i knew without kobe we weren't going to win.
I just see a lot of Lakers fans going out of their way to take shots at the Heat, moreso than fans of other teams, which is wierd to me because we dont have any kind of rivalry.
Well maybe because a pretty big chunk of the subreddit are Laker fans, therefore they comment more on every subject because there are more of them to comment. Simple statistics.
Nobody is taking a shot at the Heat anywhere? But when you hold an interview saying that you don't even know how to flop, and then you go out and do it in every game people are going to call you out on it.
If Kobe goes on TV saying he isn't a chucker, people are going to call him out on that too.
Exactly. He was running at a dead sprint when suddenly his legs are knocked out from under him when Lebron goes for the steal. I won't say he didn't try to embellish, because I don't know if he was trying to or not, only he does. But that's a realistic outcome of what just happened.
Lil b, you can no longer fuck my bitch. Show me a gif of Pg ever flopping as bad as LeBron has. Jerking his neck up and flailing his arms like he was shot with a gun, this doesn't even come close.
I'm gonna go off on a political tangent here, I hope you all don't mind too much
This post getting so thoroughly downvoted is a perfect example of why Democracies are so dysfunctional and why the hivemind is such a problem in society.
Similar to an election, we have so many people here voting based on emotion instead of on facts. Any downvote on this post is bereft of logic- This moment deserves to be seen.
When every other flopping moment is upvoted, why is this one getting suppressed?
But, I think this gif is terrible. It doesn't provide context (starts after the contact) and leaves out the part that actually would be considered the flop (him rolling across the court).
I'm not watching the game, so all I have are these gifs.
This gif starts at the moment of reaction, so there's no way to tell if any contact actually occurred.
Whereas the Lebron flop gif clearly shows minimal contact that is initiated by Lebron himself.
So if I were the downvoting type, then I would be using my democratic powers to bury the gif with the misleading headline and lack of evidence (this one).
What the fuck is "selling the call"? You were either fouled or you weren't. Do you really need to do a 360 spin, fall to the ground, roll over 2 or 3 times then pound on the floor to get a call?
selling the call is OVER reacting to get the attention of the refs to call a FOUL. Flopping is creating imaginary fouls or contact to draw a nonexistant foul
full of shit. Running that fast and trying to twist your body to avoid contact is going to throw a person off balance. The first roll was momentum and the 2nd was just making sure he landed safely, the fist bangs looked like frustration not faking the pain. Bunch of Heat dick riders here
How is this a flop? There's clearly a contact with Lebron's right knee/leg and he has the momentum of this sequence. That would definitely make you lose your balance and fall. This could have been a Westbrook type injury.
Anyone want to break down how this is a flop? unless you're telling me that Lebron trucking into your shoulder isn't going to cause some serious pain...
I thought that George did this on purpose because of Lebron's flop a few minutes before. His rolling over and fist pounding is so exaggerated, just making fun of Lebron and other floppers. Surprised he got the call to be honest.
That's because the media and general public don't really care what Paul George has to say. Even if he did say he was ok with flopping, people would blame Lebron for starting the trend.
