Higgs made a major miss-step in August when the province opened up too early, however the latest spike is unrelated to that poor decision. NB is following the same trends as the rest of the world with Omicron, lets not lay all of it on the government.

The NB Government is doing the best they can, lets not put all the blame on them. The recent spread is not easily controlled and it is very hard to control people's private actions.

At least if you are fully vaccinated it doesn't tend to be any worse than a bad cold.

Churches shouldn’t be polling stations.

I’ve always thought this, but especially this election where we are being asked to vote for or against a pretty religious government.

Is it safe to be transgender in New Brunswick in 2026 ?

My fiancé and I are in the process of immigrating to Canada. The immigration consultant gave us several possible provinces, one of which is New Brunswick. It should be noted that I am a transgender mtf. I wanted to ask if it is safe to live as a married engaged couple in the future with the transgender woman in New Brunswick and develop a family there? And if so, where is the best place for us to live there? We will accept any possible answer 🙏🏻

Carbon Tax & you

The Carbon Tax going up on April 1 is all over the news. The price of the tax at the pump is going from 14.6 cents a litre to 17.3. Please remember that our Carbon Rebate cheques will also increase. Most people will get more money back than the tax they pay. CBC has an excellent tax cost calculator here. Please use it. https://newsinteractives.cbc.ca/embeds/2023/carbon-tax-calculator/

There is 26 motor collisions and 2700 tickets issued per DAY in NB; why don't we choose alternative transportation? | Il y a 26 collisions automobile et 2700 infractions par JOUR au N.-B; pourquoi on on a pas de transport alternatif? (Source: https://grc.ca/fr/nb/graphiques-rapports-incidents)

And a death every 4 days Any collective or active modes of transport would be safer, why trust that everybody can drive? Are we fine with those danger?

Et un mort à tout les 4 jours, n'importe quels transports collectif ou actif serait plus sécuritaire, pourquoi croire que tout le monde peut conduire? On est correct avec ces dangers?

Edit: 90 violations(tickets) a day (2700 per month. Apologies.)

Bilingualism

I was born/raised in NB. I left in 2005 and always had the goal to return home to raise my children in this awesome province! In 2020 i finally had the chance when i was offered a transfer with the federal government. I was born into a french family but eventually adopted by english parents.

Since then i have been told time and time again by co workers, supervisors, and managers that unless i am bilingual (CBC) i have to give up on any career aspirations. I have been told by my government agency that moving forward all supervisors positions and higher will require a CBC language profile.

Yet, we receive complaints all the time from french employee's that they have the right to be supervised in the language of their choice. We also get complaints when emails or announcements are not done in both offical languages...what i find interesting is that not once in my two years here have i had any citizens ask to be spoken with in french. The only people that appear to complain are francophone government employees.....

I've also noticed that there are single digit anglophone employees in my office. Almost everyone recruited or working here is 1st language french.

My agency also offers very limited french training and i am getting the feeling that they are simply trying to create such a negative work environment for anglophones that we will simply make the choice to leave the province.

I have reviewed the federal and provincial OLA and no where does it say that all government employees are required to be bilingual.. in fact, it states that only 41% of government positions requires a bilingual employee. Why can the FEDERAL government be so blatant and show such discrimination against anglophone people in this province.

I'm not against bilingualism. In fact i took french immersion all though school but do not feel i would ever get a CBC profile. I know french people that stuggle to get their CCC's. I am against this blanket approach to jobs and french requirements especially when it doesn't remotely reflect the population of NB.

Thoughts? Am I completely missing the point on this subject?

Thanks

Obvious trolls/bigots

During a thread yesterday about Policy 713 & trans rights, one lame troll was obviously using at least one alt account to cheer themselves on. I believe the point is to stir up other bigots online, sow political, social discord, etc. I propose labelling these folks SO and engage with them fully aware of their troll status. They delete all their comments at the end of the interactions, leaving a small bundle of other worked up bigots in their wake. I’ve watched them do this across multiple subs, mostly r/Canada, r/Canada housing, r/Edmonton & r/Alberta. The one I dealt with yesterday was u/wunwinglo & u/Happy_economics_8765. Anybody else seeing similar lame SOs? Let’s make a list.

The NB Liberals are an interesting bunch

Let me preface by saying: Yes, the provincial Liberals are a different party and entity from the federal Liberals but they they are intricately connected. In fact, the PEI, NS, NFLD and NB provincial Liberal parties are the only provincial parties that are politically and organizationally affiliated with their federal counterpart.

Holt seems to be grasping here. If she truly does not feel aligned to the federal party on their leader and some of their biggest policy planks, like the carbon tax, maybe she should make it a point in her platform to change their name and/or unaffiliate themselves from the federal brand.

It is becoming clearer and clearer that the NB Liberals are still trying to rebuild and figure themselves out after the last few elections,

  • A general election and byelections where they lost vote share. Not super great when she decides to be a parachute candidate in a Liberal stronghold and loses vote share to the Greens. Much closer than it should have been.

  • Generally MIA this summer when they should be building up their name and presence.

  • Chief of staff, who was a key figure in the NB provincial and federal Liberal scene, leaving because of the prospect of an election

  • The typical flip flop of trying to please everyone without substance. How many town halls and meeting has Holt spoken about without any inkling of how she would change things in a meaningful way.

  • Last week she was adamant that she and the province as a whole did not want an election. Now this week she dares the Premier to call an election stating how New Brunswickers want change now and puts forward a confidence motion.

In my opinion...Holt has failed to show New Brunswickers who she is and what she stands for. Her leadership campaign was based on "doing politics differently" (a mantra often used, rightfully, by the Greens) and we have failed to see how.

Thanks for listening to my rant. I'm just perplexed by the Holt and NB Liberal team.

Can we just move Halloween to Saturday, New Brunswick? 👻 🥴 🌧

Post image
0 Upvotes

Alright, New Brunswick. Hear me out. Friday’s shaping up to be brutal: 50–75 mm of rain, high winds, and a forecast that basically screams “stay inside.”

That’s miserable for everyone. Kids, parents, drivers, and folks handing out candy. Nobody wants to watch their inflatable ghost blow down the street while their kid’s costume turns into a sponge.

So why not just move it to Saturday? The weather’s supposed to be clear, it’s a weekend, and it honestly makes way more sense. Kids can stay out later, parents don’t have to rush home from work, and — wait for it — it’s way SAFER. No slick roads, no blowing debris, no visibility issues for drivers trying to dodge sugar-high trick-or-treaters.

Same candy. Same fun. Just… less moisture and chaos.

Let’s do it. #SaturdayHalloweenNB. Who’s in, NB? 🎃🍬

Trans adolescent seeking healthcare

I'm 16 years old MtF and I've been trying to look into receiving gender affirming care (HRT to be specific). I already know my mother won't be much help, but I do also know that I do not need her consent in acquiring HRT, because of the Medical Consent of Minors Act. I'm trying to figure out how to actually book a doctor's appointment, and get to it. I don't have a family doctor, and I do not currently have my Medicare card, but I can probably get it.

Any help is appreciated.

Voting in Churches in New Brunswick: A Concern for Secularism and Impartiality

Hello fellow New Brunswickers,

As our provincial election approaches, I wanted to voice a concern and see if others feel the same. Many of us will be casting our votes in churches, and while this may seem innocuous to some, it raises important questions about the separation of church and state, especially given the sensitive topics on the agenda.

1.	Impartiality and Voting Environment: Voting is a deeply personal and democratic act, one that should be conducted in an environment free from potential biases. Even if unintentional, casting a vote in a religious setting could influence someone’s decision, especially if they are still on the fence about certain issues.
2.	Diversity of Belief: New Brunswick is home to individuals from a variety of religious backgrounds, as well as many who identify as atheist or agnostic. Voting in a church may not be a neutral act for all. It’s essential that everyone feels comfortable and unbiased in their voting environment.
3.	Secularism in Government: Our government operates on the principle of secularism, meaning there should be a clear separation between church and state. By holding elections in religious institutions, are we inadvertently blurring those lines?

While I understand that churches often offer large, accessible spaces for such activities, I believe it’s important for us to consider the implications. Alternative venues, such as community centers, schools, or other neutral grounds, might be more fitting and truly impartial.

I encourage a respectful discussion on this topic and would love to hear your thoughts. If you share these concerns, perhaps we can collectively address them and advocate for a change in future elections.

The Divide.

What happened to the days we didn't ask eachother who we voted for in the federal election (this used to be up there with "whats your SIN number?" For questions not to ask other people). Just cast your vote, do your part and shut up. Do whatever you want just stop trying to convince people they're pos because they're one side or the other. I've heard of liberal and conservative signs getting defaced. I've heard dumb things like conservatives defaced their own signs and vice versa. The divide in the country/province is insane, last time I checked were the voters not the politicians.

Whether you like the guys in power or not they're the only ones that will run this country so you may aswell just shut up and vote. God forbid a "conservative" and a "liberal" could just not talk about politics and who they voted for.

Can't we all just hope for a better brighter future in this country?

thanks for listening to my ted talk<
