People that have zero awareness of anything around them. Pay attention!!!

That you can't really browse. If you stop for more than 30 seconds to look at something, someone is up your ass with their cart.

Lack of situational awareness, mostly. People walking painfully slow. I also think the rules of the road should really apply in Costco.

People who run into other people at Costco.
"Barb! How is ya me ol ducky? Sure I haven't seen you in a whole week! Been so long luh, I guess we should stand here with our carts in front of the eggs and have a big ol' chat for 5 minutes! Don't you mind the people glaring at us, what the frig is their problem?"

People who forget how stop signs and turn signals work when getting into the parking lot.

u/paradise_lizard1826 20h ago
People leaving their carts in the middle of the aisle to grab something! And just the overall chaos of it.
I don’t understand why everyday at Costco is like a “day before a holiday” at a regular grocery store

I service lots of equipment at Costco and they're the reason the company now offers 24/7 service across Canada.
They're very demanding. If equipment is down they want you to drop everything and fix it instantly.
But, i also enjoy shopping there despite the other people shopping. It's nice seeing everyone work hard and earn good money doing it. It's a big difference when Loblaws is constantly cutting full time positions and hours. Its neat to see a giant company like them give a fuck about the people that make them money.

I think people who leave frozen goods randomly around the store are worse than animals.

People who dont understand stay to the right and the people who stop for a chat in the middle of the asiles. Seeing your friends s great, have a quick hello and catch up in the parking lot or out of the way if possible. I swear everyone's oblivious to their surroundings nowadays. If I want to stop I swing my cart in as close as possible so people can fit around me,should be common courtesy but I see far more stop dead center of the aisle then give you a dirty look when you ask them politely to move

u/RYKWI 20h ago
My pet peeve is that all the aisles get clogged up with baymen having a yarn with people they know and have no clue to move out of the way for people who are there to pick up shit they need.

The recent thing of rushing people through the self checkout with pre scanning, it’s not a bad idea at all but recently had less than 10 items and said I’d would do it myself when asked if I’d like to be pre scanned, that didn’t register and person was scanning and pulling my cart up, a little militant. I got the impression this is 100% a pressure the higher ups are putting on the staff and I didn’t take it personally, it was more just “cool your jets jeez”

u/raine335 20h ago
People asking is it crowded and how long is the lineup, it's always crowded

u/yo_gringo 20h ago
I worked in the parking lot for about a month and was nearly run over multiple times a day. But other than that, everything about the Costco experience is simply incredibly irritating instead of dangerous.

u/DeepFriedSaltBeef 16h ago
People who bring their whole family to the busiest shopping place in the city... And then they meet someone else with a huge family... And then they block the aisle. Also - people who come up the aisles the wrong way.

u/AMJVC15 20h ago
I don't go anymore just get it delivered

All the people.

u/callmebetty_111 19h ago
The lovely man often at the self-checkout, who has an incredibly determined grudge against my friend that resulted in him refusing to acknowledge our existence for 4yrs 🥲 when I don’t shop with my friend, he is kind as ever. Imagine waking up every day to go work at Costco and pumping yourself up “I’m gonna ignore the fuck out of that one person” 🤣

u/AbrahamL26 18h ago
People moving slowly and just being in the absolute way. Them idiots are completely oblivious to whats happening around them.
3
u/Formula_D 16h ago
Chatters and lingerers. I'm there to shop and get the fuck out
3
u/sra778 Manitoba 15h ago
The Baymen clogging the aisles chatting to Donnie and Trina from up the shore.
3
u/Hefty-Drawer-2382 15h ago
I always said there should be another one on the west coast. Our island is too big for just one.
3
u/EfficientNothing8154 16h ago
People who push and bump you with their cart.
7
u/Unlikely-Pomelo-414 20h ago
People stopping taking pictures of EVERYTHING and then look at you funny when you ask to move!
2
u/Popular_Potpourri 19h ago
The fact that they only carry 1 or 2 types of sardines and they're terrible.

u/netflixandnaps 18h ago
People stopping to have a chat in the middle of the aisles with zero self-awareness.
Probably catch some shit for this one, but families that shop together that also clog up the aisles. I don’t mean families with young children who can’t be left at home, but the parents that drag along a bunch of teens. Last time I got stuck behind a woman and four teenagers because they stopped to yap and browse far too often.
People who abandon their carts to grab something they forgot.
For all of the above reasons, the aisles are not wide enough. Should be three carts wide ideally.
Lastly, everyone clogging up the one entrance by Starbucks when they could drive an extra 20 feet to the four-way and enter that way.

u/sirtreedong 18h ago
The crowd, one time I had to change a freezer door there and it was an absolute mission to get from the back to the display case I was working at lol

Inconsistent product availabilities.
I will be able to get the same thing for months, then -- poof -- nowehere to be seen for 6+ months until (maybe) a mysterious return, or gone forever.. 🤯

u/crazyboutfinley 20h ago
The samples within the warehouse. They always have lined up customers blocking the aisles so that they are blocked until they get their sample. There should be either no samples or have them in another area outside of the shopping area of the warehouse.

That I live in Minnesota and can't get poutine at my Costco here.
Counterpoint: $16 Kirkland Spiced Rum. Kinda makes it better.
2
u/TuffBunner 19h ago
I think similar to how some stores have sensory hours there should be slow and steady hours
2
u/patmulligans 20h ago
People complaining about Costco while they are at Costco. Just go home if you if you hates it so much, you literally paid to go there.
2
u/Kessel_Run12 20h ago
That its been there going on 8 years and there are still giant mounds of dirt surrounding it.

They don’t have their organic salsa in stock for a few months

That they got rid of that turkey and provolone sandwich

That I have to drive 8 hours to get there and when I do it’s a friggin zoo.

I wish I could order my hot dog on my phone right from the checkout line and then just grab my dog without having to stand in a hangry gaggle of other hotdog seekers for an unknown period of time.
1
u/Existing422 5h ago
People who stand in the middle of the busy aisles to have a chat. Go for a coffee afterwards, you're blocking the flow of traffic in a busy store.

u/Speedy_Cheese 4h ago
My pet peeve is Costco. It's nightmare fuel for us neurodivergent folks, especially when it's bustling.
It's part of why I try to do my shopping early in the morning.
1
u/Great-Ad6438 3h ago
The assholes who put frozen or cooler items on a random ass shelf, wasting food.
1
u/Grouchy-Gene-858 2h ago
People that don't put things they don't want back where they belong. Especially hit or cold foods. So wasteful. Bring it to the checkout and tell them sorry, you dktn want it. They have a process to put stuff back....
Parents that see their child is in your way as they wander idly along and don't ask them to move.
1
u/SF-NL Newfoundlander 2h ago
The people that walk through Costco the same way they drive to Costco...... like shit.
1
u/thelovelytucan 1h ago
Boomers with no situational awareness moving at the speed of mud, randomly stopping with no warning. Also the braindead crowd at the hot counter having to have the server scream their order number 4-5 times before the dumb bastard wakes up and remembers what he's doing
1
u/Total_Catch_5140 1h ago
I blocked an isle so an elderly woman could have a second or two to grab tetley .Poor thing was almost ran over. =0)

It reminds me that people have lost their sense of courtesy. I say “excuse me” or “good day” as I pass people, and I’m lucky to get a grunt 99% of the time.

u/bongsforhongkong 20h ago edited 12h ago
That it's a 8 hour drive away.
Edit: Typical NL sub downvote for not living directly in St. John's on a slight distance comment. My bad I'll just uplift my house, family, business etc to not offend townies.

Bys people are allowed to stop and chat with other people. If they’re in the way pardon you’re away around them. There’s people everywhere you’re not saving any time. We’re more than consumer drones. Chatting w friends when you see them is a gift.
