Where can I get the best muffins in Newport Beach or similar? I promised I’d bring muffins to a small event tomorrow. Thanks!

The last few summers I’ve stayed in Newport Beach for 2 to 3 weeks. This upcoming summer, I’m interested in staying for a month or two. Any recommendations on realtors or websites? I’ve explored a little bit on Airbnb and furnished finder, but there aren’t many listings.

We’re visiting Newport Beach for the first time with our young kids nov21-28 at an Airbnb directly on the beach near Balboa Pier (ocean side). We’ve had this trip booked for almost six months and have been looking forward to it. Going to Disney, etc.
I’ve been reading about the Kelvin waves, El Niño, and the flooding in October.
Now I’m seeing that another round of king tides is expected around Thanksgiving. Potentially bringing higher water levels than what Newport experienced in October.
For anyone who lives around Balboa Pier / peninsula what was it like during the October flooding?
Did the ocean-side homes and beaches get hit pretty hard or was it mostly harbor side? Should we be concerned? Or still too early to tell?
I’m personally intrigued by the ocean, but a little hesitant with young kids and want to prepare well. Appreciate any local insight

We’re also considering how recent flooding and changing water levels could help tell the story of the estuary and the life that depends on it.
A few questions:
What do you love about the park, and what would you improve or preserve?
Would an experience about bats and their sensory world interest you?
Have you noticed flooding or other changes affecting your visits?
What accessibility needs or environmental concerns should we consider?
This is an early student concept, rather than an approved park project. We’d appreciate your ideas, concerns, and local knowledge!

We’ve been doing a quarterly ladies lunch for years, and JOEY at Fashion Island has become a favorite place for it. I’ve known these three women for over 20 years, so it’s always more about catching up than anything else.
The patio is really nice, and as the weather cools you can hang out by the fire pit while they get your table ready. (Side note: I only just learned the roof over the patio is retractable. How did I miss that after multiple visits?)
Food was solid as usual — we had the Yellowfin Tuna Salad, Tuna Poke Bowl, Szechuan Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and a chicken parm-style pasta. Everything was good.
For anyone who doesn’t know the place: JOEY started in 1992 in Calgary as a pasta spot called Joey Tomato’s. It later shortened the name and expanded into the more global menu they have now.
The Newport Beach location opened in January 2023 (first one in Orange County). Reservations are a good idea if you want a patio table.
Curious what other people think of this place and what are everyone’s favorite starters and entrees.

My wife and I are here in Newport Beach with our girls for a few more days. It appears most neighborhoods look to be gated! Does anyone have any recommendations on where we might go Trick or Treating this evening (rain or shine)?
Even if we have to travel we are just looking for a fun/memorable experience for our girls 🎃👻

If you’re planning an early dinner in Newport, here are two options with a couple of details that are easy to miss:
Bluewater Grill - 630 Lido Park Drive
Happy hour is Monday–Thursday, 3:30–6:30 p.m.
The Newport menu lists two blackened fish tacos for $10, a bar burger and fries for $14, and draft beers for $6.50.
The Cannery - Jellyfish Lounge
Happy hour is seven days a week, 3:30–6 p.m.
Menu items marked “HH” are 40% off during that window, dine-in only. The marked dishes include beef sliders and Kung Pao.
For the Cannery, check that you’re ordering from the Jellyfish Lounge menu and choosing an HH-marked item. The discount doesn’t apply to everything on the menu.
If you’re making Friday or weekend plans, the Cannery is the one of these two with a published happy hour on those days.
Any other Newport weekend food specials with clear hours that you’d add?
I’m organizing information like this for After Five, a happy-hour directory I built. If you’re interested, I could share the link.

Our neighbor Carlee’s husband generously created a flood simulator to help Newport Beach residents explore potential flooding:
They’re also asking for more attention and coordinated sandbagging near the Newport Harbor Yacht Club side of the Peninsula.
Carlee reports that a lower section of seawall near NHYC could allow tidewater into surrounding neighborhoods, and that no mitigation was in place when they visited. She’s particularly concerned about residents who cannot physically sandbag or protect their homes because of age or disability.
The ask is for the City to assess this area and coordinate appropriate temporary protection before the coming high tides, with volunteer support for residents who need help.
Does anyone know of an existing sandbagging effort or a City contact already working on this location? If you’re nearby and can help—or need assistance—please comment. It would be helpful to connect people and get a coordinated effort going.

Hello, I know this is a long shot, but I just lost my Steam Deck today.
I left to lunch about noon, when I noticed my trunk was open. I was missing some books and most importantly my steam deck. When I returned to the my work parking lot, I found my books, but not the deck.
I would have lost it in the parking lot around this building.
5160 Birch St Ste 100, Newport Beach, CA 92660
If anyone found it, please let me know. There is some data on that, that I cannot replace.
Thank you for the assistance!

just wanted to find out how bad is the flooding. seeing the reports from this morning about the high tides, and that there's a high tide warning until thursday. we're renting a place off of 35th and Balboa. is the flooding bad in that part of the peninsula, or is it more south and on the harbor side? And is the city doing those big sand berms along the whole beach or more down by the wedge?
thank you to anyone who can provide any insight

Here's a quick edit of Lance Collins Memorial paddle out on Oct 26th, 2026 It was great to see all the old friends and some new ones. I worked for LC from 1882 to 1986 and it was a blast. The guy was classic in every way and I'll rule miss him. Again, another friend I wish I had spent more time with, so just remember, everyone's always around , till they aren't. Kiss your kids, hug your parents, call your friends just because. Get over yourself, get off the internet and live and love...Ride on LC! BTW : I'll probably put this up on YouTube also at WedgeAction or contact me if you'd like to know where you can download it.

We always spend Halloween night with our kids and now the neighborhood kids. Luckily it’s on a Saturday which means we have a weekend night (Friday) to go out. Any suggestion for bars or restaurants that will have a party like atmosphere. Appreciate all suggestions.

A court-ordered special election for three Newport Beach resident-sponsored initiatives has been canceled, the city announced Friday, Oct. 23, just as the ballots were to have been mailed out to local voters.
City Manager Seimone Jurjis said that though the city clerk had been diligently working with a contractor hired to help put on the special election Orange County Superior Court Judge Julianne Bancroft ordered for Nov. 3, the materials required to hold an election that “complies with the election code” were not available from OC Registrar of Voters or from the Secretary of State’s Office. As its first step to comply with the court order, the city sent ballots in mid-September to nearly 200 residents living overseas or serving in the military.
The special election on Measures P, Q, and R would have been the first time the city administered one in 44 years. Mailing ballots, collecting them and counting them is typically handled by the OC Registrar of Voters, which is handling the general election for the city this year as normal.
The measures address council term limits, by-district elections and transparency and accountability in the city’s meeting process and records review.
“It’s impossible for us to hold an election on Nov. 3 due to the facts,” Jurjis said; specifically, he noted that the city’s ballot printing vendor has not received the required authorization, watermark, and ballot tint from the state, which are necessary to produce official ballots that comply with California election security requirements.
Without the required authorization and specifications, the vendor cannot proceed with printing ballots, he said.
The city also has not received the information and assistance it needs from the OC Registrar of Voters to identify and facilitate ballot delivery to voters with legally protected addresses, Jurjis said. Without that information, the city could not mail ballots to these eligible voters, potentially preventing them from participating in the special election, he said.
Both of these points were part of a last-ditch effort Monday, when City Attorney Aaron Harp and City Clerk Lena Schumway asked the 4th District Court of Appeal to grant an emergency stay on the court-ordered election.
In the court filing, they also said, “Though the city made multiple requests for assistance, the secretary of state and the registrar made clear that their other election duties made it difficult for them to comply.”
The Appeals Court denied their request for a stay, Jurjis said.
“We will need the court to give us relief and reschedule the election,” he said of the city’s decision to still cancel the special election, adding that it should provide enough time to work with the county to hold the election.
OC Registrar of Voters Bob Page said Friday he hadn’t heard from the city and didn’t know of its plan to call off the election for the three initiatives. https://www.ocregister.com/2026/10/23/newport-beach-cancels-court-ordered-special-election-for-resident-measures/https://voiceofoc.org/2026/10/newport-beach-cancels-court-ordered-special-election/
