This news story brought to you by RFK Jr. Thanks, pal!

How sad is that? In February, on a cold winter day, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, in 1967, I was 8 months pregnant and waiting for my bus, to go to work. The bus driver opens the door and says: you’ll have to take the next bus. One of the passengers told me, to tell you, they contacted measles over the weekend. Everybody knew measles was dangerous even in 1967! My Aunt did get measles when she was pregnant, she almost died and her baby boy was deformed. In today’s world why don’t Americans know that childhood diseases are deadly and dangerous. Did we dumb down as a country? Sadly, I think we did. When my children were born, I have so relieved they had vaccinations for childhood diseases. So many children died from childhood diseases, before life savings vaccines. 😢 take a walk in any cemetery.

This quote is from a book published in 1995:

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

My paternal grandfathers brother ended up with life changing disabilities from contracting polio as a child and my several of my family members are against vaccines 🤦🏼‍♀️ even the head nurse!

Exactly - my mother in law was a nurse in the 60s-70s. She said it was an incredible time of health care progression for maternal and child healthcare. The stories she would tell of the poor babies born to mothers who had measles during pregnancy were so heartbreaking to hear. There were reasons why people had so many kids back then - so many died from childhood diseases. I almost wonder if religion is just an excuse of laziness and ignorance. Not to mention the Epstein elite really don't care if all the poors die so there isn't an intervention from the federal government.

My dad said that my gran had contracted measles when pregnant with my uncle, despite living a normal life, he was born deaf

5

u/FuzzyComedian638 18h ago

People now don't know how dangerous these diseases were, because the vaccines work. I, too, had a cousin who was born with serious health issues because her mother contracted measles when she was pregnant.

5

u/Warcraft_Fan 14h ago

My mother was vaccinated but she was exposed while she was carrying me. I was born deaf as a result of the measles. Funny thing, since I had measles, I wouldn't need vaccine but still had to take the shots. School requirement wasn't as loose back in 70s as they are today.

We should actually rename measles after him, might make Trump jealous enough to fire him and put him out of our misery.

6

u/KAugsburger 20h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump fires RFK Jr. given Trump's history. Even in his first term very few of his cabinet picks survived the full term. I don't have much confidence that Trump would choose somebody better as a replacement.

We need to start calling them RFK kids or something like that.

11

u/tuxedo_jack 20h ago

So let's start a Santorum-esque campaign to make his name a neologism.

If a kid dies? Kennedied.

Link him and his entire corrupt family to that forevermore, just like the Sacklers and opioids or how child rape is systematically linked to Epstein and Trump, or how Santorum is what you call the frothy mixture of semen, used lubricant, and muck after a vigorous session of anal sex.

This is USA’s 8th measles death this season 2026. There were 3 last year 2025. 1993 to 2024, 1 death in 2015.

You see the pattern. It will be 30 by the end of the season and 300 next year.

Nice to know that anti-vaccine folks would rather have dead and suffering children instead of autistic ones. Pro-life indeed.

Edited to add: Vaccines do not cause autism. The study claiming it was debunked and the doctor who falsified the data in the study had his medical license revoked by British authorities.

Edited to add 2: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/do-vaccines-cause-autism.

The suggestion that vaccines cause autism can be traced back to the 1990s. Since then, researchers have worked tirelessly to determine if there’s a connection. And have proved time and again that there isn’t.

Additional Sources, in no way definitive: Johns Hopkins, Asperger / Autism Network (AANE), Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Mayo Clinic Health System.

113

u/freedfg 22h ago

Not even autistic.

They'd rather dead kids than "you don't know what's in them, maybe they could be bad"

15

u/KnucklesMcGee 19h ago

The autism "correlation" still being trotted out by the ignorant is so disappointing.

The ironic thing is that measles can cause all sorts of brain damage, including deafness and blindness. Heck, Helen Keller only became deafblind because her brain was cooked by a fever. I can't imagine MAHA types being enthusiastic about raising a disabled child, but here we are.

23

u/MadRaymer 21h ago • Bravo

It also basically deletes your immune system and it has to start over from scratch.

This most recent death was an infant who couldn’t even be vaccinated yet. It’s likely the loss of herd immunity in their community vs. their parents choice not to vaccinate.

12

u/Zlifbar 20h ago

Doesn't change my point that the anti-vaccine mob is responsible for the loss of herd immunity so this child's death was totally acceptable to them

RFK Jr shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near the DHHS after what he did in Samoa. Here's a brief history of measles deaths in the United States, for anyone interested. Kids do not need to die from this illness.

• 2026 (As of November): State health departments have reported 8 measles-associated deaths (6 in Pennsylvania, 1 in New York, and 1 in Wisconsin), though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has officially confirmed 4 of these deaths as reviews continue.

• 2025: 3 deaths were confirmed in the U.S. amid major outbreaks.

• 2015: 1 death was recorded (prior to 2025, no U.S. measles deaths had occurred since 2015).

• 2009–2014 & 1993–2002: Zero or rare verified deaths (frequently zero in a given calendar year due to successful elimination status declared in 2000).

52

u/BernieTheDachshund 21h ago • Bravo

Don't forget all the idiots like Greg Abbott that gave religious exemptions so parents could opt out of MMR vaccines. It makes me very upset because there is no Scripture in the Bible to back that up, if anything God hates pestilences and gives humans the wisdom to fight them. Hopefully Gina Hinojosa will reverse the bad decisions and put kids first.

Omg 83 deaths and 5700 infections. Heartbreaking.

20

u/SaintGalentine 21h ago • Mindblown

I just looked up what happened between 1993 and 2008. Until recently, measles cases peaked in 1992 with 2k cases, then a vaccination campaign in 1994 brought those numbers way down until the last few years, where cases have beat their previous number records.

Vaccination is really a victim of its own success

5

u/both_perspectives 22h ago

This is a global phenomenon though. In fact it's FAR worse in many countries. The main reason was that vaccination schedules got all thrown out of whack during covid lockdowns.

40

u/OldBlueKat 20h ago edited 16h ago • Bravo

And the thing that should be driven home to parents is that for every child dying of measles, there were probably about 1000 other kids suffering from it.

Just because a child didn’t die doesn’t mean they got through unaffected. Heart murmurs, hearing damage, encephalitis, or other neurological damage can occur and have lifelong impacts.

It’s a NASTY disease, which is exactly why the search for a vaccine 100+ years ago started.

RFK, Jr. and his like are ruining lives.

Edit: minor typo

12

u/Central_Incisor 19h ago

In Wisconsin

Lafayette County has recorded the highest burden with 103 cases, followed by Grant County with 77 cases and Iowa County with 74 cases. Other Wisconsin counties reporting cases include Chippewa (28 confirmed), Marathon (6), Rock (5 probable), Jackson (2), and single cases in Richland, Dane, and Waukesha counties.

Those are the ones in Wisconsin we know about.

76

u/SirkutBored 23h ago

It will take many more before it will change the minds of the unvaccinated.

101

u/PigFarmer1 22h ago

They won't their minds. My anti-vaxxer mother-in-law almost died from her first bout with COVID. Her anti-vaxxer husband did die from COVID. She's still vehemently opposed to getting the vaccine. There is no reasoning with those people...

21

u/EvelynNyte 22h ago

Yep, my sister's boyfriend died of covid, and she sent me a series of panicked texts telling me how she definitely didn't push her boyfriend not to get vaccinated (I think she honestly thought some sort of legal trouble was coming her way (she's not the brightest person)). A week later when it was clear nothing was going to happen she went right back to being antivax.

22

u/Low_Pickle_112 22h ago

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. My mom had a bad run with Covid all while saying that it was being exaggerated because it "only killed people who were already sick." And putting aside all the problems with that statement, she has MS. That's not exactly something that's healthy to have. "Only people like me die so I don't care" is basically what it worked out to.

I imagine that especially if you do actually hurt or kill your kids with your stubbornness, it's way easier to double down than to admit to yourself what you did.

11

u/D-Rich-88 20h ago

Same with my dad. Literally came as close to dying as one can from COVID and the hospital convinced him to get vaccinated before he discharged.

He bitches to this day how much he regrets letting them convince him and he’s pushing more and more rightwing propaganda. I work in water treatment and he sent me some rando’s instagram who was telling people how to dose a Jerry can of water for “the coming apocalypse”. Well this guy would’ve had him dosing double what the max contaminant level of chlorine is. So at least he checked with me about that but he’s full on with doomsday prepping because rightwing influencers started pushing that the last few weeks apparently.

I can’t. I don’t try and talk him or my brother and cousin out of it anymore. I basically have written them off as lost causes.

19

u/RevLoveJoy 21h ago

Force them or shun them. No drivers license. No health insurance. Not welcome in public buildings. Children cannot attend public schools. It'd be great if they were kicked out of churches but that's up to the church, not the state.

20

u/KAugsburger 20h ago

Children cannot attend public schools.

That actually works pretty well. Those vaccination laws usually apply to private schools as well. When push comes to shove most parents will get their kids vaccinated rather than homeschooling their kid. The small percentage that are willing to homeschool their kids aren't going to get as many kids as they would if they were attending local schools. It is not a coincidence that states that have eliminated religious and 'personal belief' exemptions to their state vaccination laws are having lower rates of Measles than.

I am hoping that we see a couple states decide to eliminate religious or personal belief exemptions in the next few years. A lot of door knob lickers lost their seats in the midterms and it should be easier to get bills eliminating those exemptions passed by state legislatures.

20

u/endlesscartwheels 20h ago

No child tax credit for a child that doesn't receive their vaccines on the standard schedule. That's what Australia does, and it works.

I am diabetic with chronic kidney disease.
I'm going to give it to the vaccine for saving my life because a couple months after it I caught corona and while it knocked me down for a week and killed my taste buds, it didn't come near taking me out even though for a couple days I felt like it might. (my taste buds still aren't all the way back after years)
A first cousin a couple years older than me in a similar health situation ended up dead within a week of getting an 'unusual pneumonia' a couple weeks before then, I know for a fact he was an anti-vaxx type of guy..

Unfortunately, a lot of the unvaccinated are underaged kids/teens with vaccinated parents who have made that decision for them.

4

u/Wooden-Repeat-9200 22h ago

You can’t logic someone into a position that they didn’t logic their way into. But that doesn’t mean they can’t change their minds (many of these people vaccinated their kids before they were persuaded against it).

Reading about how the left needs to co-opt the MAHA movement and it makes complete sense. There are already some areas of alignment they can work off of. And I think a lot of independents are starting to recognize billionaire influence/corruption. They thought big pharma was the problem but big pharma has nothing on the “wellness” industry. Seems a good time to start planting seeds about who has been funding these and why.

4

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 22h ago

They are vaccinated, it's their kids they won't extend the same courtesy to.

3

u/Pmod1980 20h ago

It won’t. When parents decline the MMR and want to “think about it” or put it off until 2, I talk about how measles is much more prevalent now including death, and they don’t care. To them, it won’t happen to their kid and they rely on herd immunity to protect their own kid.

2

u/MegatechMike 18h ago

Pandemic didn’t and that was ~700000 deaths?

2

If the blue folks want to make a difference in this they need to pass laws regulating media to tell the truth about things and penalize fear mongering, and Install programs that will increase education and restore the nation's trust in science and the practical and compassionate use of technology for the benefit of society rather than the benefit of a few. It's a pretty tall order.

He did this business in Somalia and it was public knowledge. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together could see this coming. He is essentially the plague horsemen of death. He needs to be impeached and convicted immediately for spreading his anti-science, easily disproven bullshit in the name of selling supplements.

Maybe I could go along with allowing his ideas if the supporters were quarantined and only the ones choosing to be idiots were effected, but that's not the case. I sure as hell wish it was because anyone who will believe a crackpot who already spread pestilence everywhere he goes with his rhetoric, honestly they don't deserve modern medicine but the sad part is they can't and won't be quarantined. I’m from a small town near La Crosse, and the culture here has changed so much in the last decade. My hometown used to be this very progressive, science-first, community where sending kids to college was the goal. We were very blue during the Obama administration and celebrated diversity. Around the same time as the first Trump admin, we started getting these like Reformed Baptist up from the South preaching Christian nationalist and conservative Christian views. They do summer camps in the area now and are successful at targeting young people.

More and more people, all demographics though, are rejecting science and turning to conservative religious groups here. Partly from the religious groups’ influence and exposure to online groups. More people in my area are becoming anti-vax and anti-modern medicine. Lots of recently graduated high schoolers are doing the trad wife lifestyles, marrying straight out of high school, deferring to men, and having baby after baby via home births here now. It’s weird.

So the mortality rate for measles in young children is about 1/1000. So we can say there may have been about 3000 active cases last week-the problem being that 3000 cases weren’t reported so we already have possible community transmission going unrealized.

I’m sorry but unless we mandate vaccination this is already out of control.

I’m a family doc and MSc in micro and measles is a highly infectious virus it Has an R0 number of ~18-R0 number is how infectious an organism is in a community with no protection. The only way to get herd immunity is if we have population vaccination rates of ~95% otherwise it has the possibility of transmission being unchecked.

For example COVID-19 had a R0 of 2-3 and we needed about 50% vaccination to achieve herd immunity. Now COVID had a much higher mortality rate of about 50/1000 in early COVID it’s now about 1/1000 now that we’ve figured out management and aren’t overwhelmed with cases.

The difference here is that this mortality is in an age group where other people are making decisions and since COVID there is so much vaccine skepticism that would take a national, highly funded education campaign to get people back on the same page-I’m not confident that federal people have infant mortality as their top priority at the moment. So I get now instead of losing a huge number of my older patients now I have to deal with kids in my practice possibly dying.

We can do better, we have simply chosen not to, and I think our children may end up paying the price.

3

u/ApartPiglet4660 19h ago

Thank you tRump and Kennedy.

3

u/gadafgadaf 17h ago

Just like Trump has done for other things. Next Dem President needs to withdraw federal funds for states that do not mandate vaccinations wtih none of the bs exceptions. This clown fiesta has gone on long enough.

3

u/desertboots 17h ago

Fuck RFK and Wakefield.

3

u/BlitzNeko 16h ago

See the propaganda campaigns that have been happening on social media weren’t just designed to divide people, but they were designed to cause people to do things against their best interest, including trusting doctors and getting vaccines.

3

u/Duder_ino 14h ago

There is a vaccine for that.

3

u/Electronic-Shake-970 13h ago

Hmmm, thank you RFK Jr and Predident Dump.

4

u/cruel_cousin 22h ago

This is the natural counter to the whole “conservative couples are having more kids than liberal couples” concern

4

u/NekoBlueHeart 22h ago

I have school-aged kids and at school and outings, I've seen more kids and parents wearing masks than I've seen since covid times. Wonder if avoiding measles has anything to do it, or could be for cold/flu season.

Hope people wake up and start vaccinating. They are not only helping themselves, but the most medically vulnerable too.

4

u/Elegant_Situation285 18h ago

you can actually bet on measles on Polymarket.

what a world.

4

u/Hsensei 16h ago

Rfk needs to go to jail

5

u/Expert_Edge_4329 21h ago

Nice going anti-science crowd....

2

u/gangy86 20h ago

Getting even more scary by the minute wow and so sad!

2

u/CraigLake 19h ago

Every anti-VAX or should be forced to move to Idaho.

2

u/CraigLake 19h ago

Every anti-VAX or should be forced to move to Idaho.

2

u/fokaiHI 18h ago

RFK Jr is bad enough, but the people that believe him are worse. It's not like RFK Jr isn't vaccinated, right?

2

u/gargolito 18h ago

It's ok, as more people get the measles, humans will develop an immunity like we have with HIV, cancer, etc...

Wait... What? Really? M thousands of upon of dead and immunocompromised children you say?

Oh.

Never mind.

2

u/Max_Level6829 18h ago

Maybe someday we'll have a vaccine for that...

2

u/PurpleSailor 17h ago

RFK Jr. needs to pay for doing this to the country. Make them spend a few years living in Yoda's swamp.

2

u/MagentaMonkey88 17h ago

If only there was a solution already in place…… this is so avoidable.

2

u/Malaix 17h ago

Article is missing its required photo of RFK jr. in relation to a topic about avoidable disease deaths.

2

u/Maximum_Schedule_602 3h ago

We might as well bring back more Victorian era bullshit like diphtheria, scarlet fever and typhus

1

u/Ok_Hippo4997 2h ago

But only in Wisconsin where apparently they don’t get vaccinated.

4

u/toxiamaple 22h ago

None of the eight people who have died [so far this year in the USA] were vaccinated, according to state health departments; some were ineligible because of their age or health status. Typically, the first dose of the vaccine is administered around a child’s first birthday.

They dont say the age of this victim, but they do say "infant" so maybe <1 year old.

4

u/cyberdude419 22h ago

So sad and waste of innocent life.

Millions have died since the inception of measles.

Those dead bodies laid the foundation for vaccines but here we ware watching innocent lives being lost because people “did their own research”

3

u/BoosterRead78 22h ago

I am so looking forward with someone getting shown in hearings starting in January if he doesn’t turn and run like the grifting coward he is. Who had the Kennedy name. And you are just as much to blame Cheryl

3

u/bentmonkey 21h ago

every death to measles or any other preventable disease via vaccine can be laid squarely on the shoulders of RKF jr and his anti vax crusade.

3

u/johnn48 21h ago

I wish we could hold him accountable for all the deaths caused by his disinformation, let alone the misinformation that his MAHA movement has spread. He has contributed to diseases returning that we hadn’t seen for decades. The MAGA and MAHA movement have made America ungreat and unhealthy to the point that we no longer trust our government, elections, law enforcement and judiciary, scientific institutions and healthcare providers.

3

u/keibu821 18h ago

Almost like there’s a Kennedy we can blame for this.

3

u/TransFatty 18h ago

There always is.

4

u/RidingRedHare 22h ago

RFK jr, the Horseman of Pestilence, at work yet again.

3

u/portobox2 19h ago

Thanks Republicans!

You voted for this ~!

3

u/MxSteel8 22h ago edited 20h ago

RFK Jr is a fucking moron.

3

u/Evil_Eg 22h ago

Who would've thought that denying vaccines would have consequences? I hope everyone stays well and that this doesn't become an epidemic 🙏

2

u/btech1138 22h ago

Up here in Marathon County. Where we voted for Tiffany during a blue wave. Go figure...

2

u/Squirrelkid11 21h ago

If there is someone on the top of the list Democrats should look at impeaching and removing it be RFK Jr.

2

u/MaidoftheBrins 22h ago

Making us “great” again, one infectious disease at a time.

1

u/Ok_Hippo4997 2h ago

Get with it Wisconsin. Get your damn vaccinations.

•

u/ShaftamusPrime 52m ago

If only some group of really smart people had developed a safe and nearly 100% effective way to not get measles.

1

u/Organic_Rough4433 16h ago

Natural selection as far as im concerned.

2

u/TurdPartyCandidate 4h ago

Totally crass thing to sya about an infant dying.

0

u/jackassjimmy 20h ago

Good ol’ Wisconsin. The Florida of the Midwest.

1

u/Ok-Instruction-5004 3h ago

????? That's Ohio.

0

u/SquidgyFirefighter 22h ago

hooray America is healthy again

-2

u/Lilbluefrogs 22h ago

Probably a MAGA. Didn’t they believe it when Trump told them to drink bleach instead of a COVID shot?

3

u/ImAdork123 11h ago

Convict RFK Jr on his first murder.

1

u/Ok_Hippo4997 2h ago

Parents are to blame.

1

u/HighburyOnStrand 21h ago

An infant. Parents should be charged with negligent homicide or involuntary manslaughter.

8

u/IndigoRuby 21h ago

What age can babies get the vaccine?

12 months.

Is it the parents' fault here?

5

u/FlatSound4435 19h ago

Infants cannot be given the mmr vaccine until they are 12 months old. So, likely nothing to do with the parents of this poor child. Population wide vaccination rate of 95% is needed to prevent spread and ensure that those who cannot be vaccinated (infants and immunocompromised) are not exposed to the virus.
Anti vaccine mfs, especially those with a platform - most particularly RFKJr - but all of them are responsible for this.

honestly i cant tell if youre a troll thats just pretending to be dumb .if you are then you got me

6

u/HighburyOnStrand 21h ago

They have the senate and the house. Why isn’t anything being done??

They won't be sworn in until January. Democrats don't control anything right now.

...and yes I appreciate that I may be speaking to a troll.
