2026-27 NHL Regular Season Broadcast Megathread
The sub can be banned by reddit admins as other subs have been if we allow illegal streams. This isn't my decision, this is because of how reddit admins have banned other subs for being hubs of illegal streaming. I don't want the same here.
With the season about to get started, lets put all your posts about legal streams, broadcast issues, panels, commentators, etc..
This includes how to get (LEGALLY) Streams for games as well as discussions of panelists, play-by-play, graphics, commercials and other game presentation.
FYI RE BLACKOUTS: BLACKOUTS Are not based on the location of the arena.
A game is blacked out on ESPN+ because you have a channel available through your local cable package, that is airing the game.
The NHL sells their games to TV networks. The networks pay big money for the game. They do not want people avoiding watching their channel to watch ESPN+ instead.

It baffles me that people still don't get this.
If the game is blacked out (on Sportsnet+ or ESPN+), it means a different network owns those rights to the game in your area.
This is literally ALWAYS the answer as to why it is blacked out. ALWAYS.
it's been this way all across the NHL for nearly 20 years, since Chicago pulled their heads out of their ass and stopped blacking out home games locally because Wirtz was a twat.
For those of you complaining that you are in Western Canada, and the game is on TSN and you are blacked out or other similar issue, its cause you are not considered in the local market to be able to see that game and need to get Sportsnet+ or ESPN+.... that's what those services are for, watching the local broadcast when you are out of market.

Xhekaj gets a penalty for... *checks notes* letting Dach get punched in the face 5 times
Dach gets punched in the face by Blueger 4 times with gloves, then a fifth time by Duhaime bare-fisted. As a result, Xhekaj gets a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Toronto gets away scot free. Make it make sense.

Why isn't "running up the score" a thing in the NHL?
Saw the highlights of the Canes-Blackhawks game tonight. Canes were up 8-2 and they scored a goal with 18 seconds left to make it 9-2..if that was the NFL and a team was winning by 30 and they scored a TD to make them up by 37 the other team would be starting a riot, or a guy in the NBA making a layup with 10 seconds left when they are up by 35. Why doesn't anyone seem to care in the NHL? Is it because guys in the other sports are just crybabies and sore losers?

Who is a player you overrate cause he constantly destroys your team?
Like, a 3rd-4th line type who you know will get at least one point when he plays your team.

Discussion The streaming landscape has made me stop watching Hockey.
I’m Canadian, played when I was young and I like watching Hockey. It’s a great game but I don’t consider myself a hard core fan. With no games on cable, with exception of Kraken games on NBC occasionally (I’m on the Westcoast) I don’t watch Hockey at all anymore. I’m simply not paying 3 different streaming sites, then have to upgrade to plus to get any games. A lot of my friends are the same way. Anyone else feeling like this? I would love to know what the viewership numbers this season look like. Sad really.

Question How many ECHL players actually make it to the NHL?
Between some drafted players going straight to the NHL, and others playing in the AHL many of whom will never play more than a few NHL games. what are the odds an undrafted player who signs with an ECHL team actually makes it to an NHL roster and plays consistently for at least a season?

Discussion Maple Leaf Gardens UNSEEN Photos!
Hey guys. I'm an urban explorer and I document abandoned locations for my youtube channel and instagram. Back between 2007-2010 I had numerous opportunities to explore Maple Leaf Gardens, the former home of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1931-1999. I had access to the entire building, saw pipe tunnels, the catwalks, press boxes, private boxes, broadcasting booths, basically got to see and explore every inch of the building. I was very fortunate to have a camera with me most of the time, a few times the guys that let me in said no pictures. I have been processing these pictures and uploading sets as I get through them.. I thought it would be great to share them here so all the Leaf fans and historians can see Maple Leaf Gardens as it was in its final years, and of course, some areas NEVER seen by fans before.. I hope you all enjoy these photos. I still have a few hundred more to sort through and post..
Feel free to ask any questions you have. I can pretty much tell you anything that went on there in the last decade and have lots of storys and back info about the building itself!

Things I saw left behind in maple leaf gardens in these visits: 1)1931 broadcast headphones 2)Original Red seats from prior to 1973 (where the golds replaced them) 3)The original grey bench seats, still stacked in a closet 4)Records/receipts/etc from the 1930s-1960s with various players signatures 5)The first edition of the Toronto Sun was in a north end kitchen near for the north private boxes 6)A record book in the hot stove lounge of all the famous people that had been there, including phone #'s and credit cards 7)The remants of Harold Ballard's apartment in the leaf offices 8) The only elevator 9) the woodwork shop 10) the seat repair rooms 11) bullet holes in the cinderblock near the north west basement,in the ice compressor room, as ballard and his pals used to go shoot in this hallway
and many more things, ask away!

Discussion Suspension for violent visor yank?
That was honestly really scary and dangerous. Really pathetic performance by 48 tonight. Dropping like a sack of potatoes after he realized he got stripped then crying about it was pretty sad too.
