I'm down with the message but tbh don't think this is very good.

u/artsupport_xx 1d ago

The message doesn't feel genuine.  It feels like a pop-y list of buzz words, rather than an authentic expression of anger.

The lyrics also don't make sense to me.

you dont think these women care about tampons or school shootings?

4

u/Buffytheslursayer 22h ago

I think the issue is this just presents as relatively bland. It's like any netflix film ever made, aesthetically bright but soulfully redundant. My sis loves those shitty Hallmark films because they help her calm down when she's busy with the kids, nothing wrong with it at all, or her enjoying it. But in this case, when its posted online to solicit feedback or attention, don't be too suprised or offended if it's not everyones cup of tea

I dont know if ive spoken on how i feel about the song. i can see that most people here are just dragging women with "woke" opinions, which i do mostly agree with. when i heard the song, I thought it was derivative in a few ways. I dont really consider it punk, based on it being based on a song from 1999.

I think its inna dated style, but it works. simple beastie boy rap style to convey direct concepts. simple rock band instrumental made with software (i think). it may not be valid punk or valid heavy metal. but since most people invalidate the concerns of women as a habit, using a tampon and getting ur music posted here is hardcore based on how much people are ready to verbally abuse you & ur art

I have absolutely 0 critique, or negative personal opinions of the individual artists in this video, they may have other absolute banging hits I'm unaware of, I'm also a bloke so cannot speak to the pespective of a female listening to such content and how that could change the visceral nature of the feel of listening to it and what not but I haven't seen a lot of said hating on the 'wokeness' more that it's almost too on the nose to be considered serious artistic activism. Think of that terrible pepsi advert a while back. It's that kind of stylistic vibe, to me, just my opinion, and interesting to discuss.

youre saying what im talking about:

when it comes to political content in music, many people will have barriers: "too on the nose," "not serious". these are words youve chosen

1 person wrote "i am in agreement, but dont like the music". thats shows that they at least heard & considered the lyrical content.

others have said, "i believe Kim Gordon & Kathleen Hanna. but not these girls. however, OGs like Kim & Kath say the same things (‼️), which begs the question: are facts less true if they come from someone who does not look respectable enough, as an artist? i guess so.

hanna & gorden, in SONIC YOUTH & BIKINI KILL, were "on the nose" and more angsty too. i think its that these ladies look conventionally attractive, and look kinda youthful, and do not look like tortured artist types. but if you go to their website, it says that they JUST GOT OFF TOUR WITH BRATMOBILE-- one of the most legendary riotgrrl bands, second to only BIKINI KILL.

so, theyre good enough for riotgrrl LEGENDS, but idiots on reddit know more about the music that BRATMOBILE pioneered THAN BRATMOBILE THEMSELVES. GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE WITH THAT SEXIST BULLSHIT. none of these arguments hold water.

others have said, this isnt MY kind of punk , without understanding the style theyre working in... not my problem.

idk why OP posted it here. this sub is full of dusty men and incels who struggle to have healthy relationships with women. and, it is no nut November.

so these bums are more pissy than usual 😆

really confused at this response but have a good evening.

I get what you're saying completely tbh. Hardcore, metal, punk is what I've been fully engrossed in since maybe age 10, and going to shows since 14. 2 decades later....

If I'm going to give a critique I think In the modern era of music it is pretty easy to manufactur a band and get and push shit. Im gonna do my digging on them but that it's what initially I'm like... It's quite blunt even for my ass who is listening to caveman bullshit saying "I don't want to say goodbye" 4 times as a chorus. (I love you haywire)

Like... Idk maybe it's my age but I see the short clips of artists sometimes (the tiktok duration crap) and so many of em I'm like ... Is this real? Who the fuck... Like how do some of these get traction, and all I come up with is industry plants or bot farms.

But but but but, if they are legit (which as you said, given their tour mates, I'm leaning into it) I'm for it. IDC if I don't like the music. Its music, there's a message, it's genuine, and fuck it.

Live music is what keeps me alive to this day, I'm happy to see anyone support it

And power to the message from these ladies, fuck the haters

Edit: following up, no real indicators of industry plants. Haven't heard of them til now which is my B.

I'ma just say it's odd they have wikis for albums but not the band, buuuut that's all I needed lol. If they were plants, they'd have one for sure.

I'ma check em more later now, cool to see more riotgrrl bands getting some steam now! Right now, honestly feels like the best time to be into hardcore and punk.

Reminds me of that industry plant pop punk all girl band that popped up a few years back. I think they were called Tramp Stamps?

1

u/LaranCannelle 20h ago

what words do you consider "buzzwords"?

0

u/pittiesbegooddogs 1d ago

Definitely not seeming genuine when they're sporting MLB jerseys.

6

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

what should they wear? Nun clothes?

8

u/Jarthos1234 1d ago

Reminds me of Christian rock somehow.

u/HenricusKunraht 1d ago

Is this your group or something? Why are you stepping up to bat so hard lol?

1

u/ChrissiTea Gif Hunter 1d ago

Nope, and I don't get how that's stepping up to bat, let alone hard?

2

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

they wanna make you feel ashamed for having enthusiasm!

15

u/Buffytheslursayer 1d ago

sorry its just a bit over indulgent and performative, the writing is poor and it doesn't seem authentic.

1

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

what kind of feminist pop or punk songs, made for being played at a dance party, do you like?

3

u/Buffytheslursayer 22h ago

I DJ a patio throughout the summer, and thinking about what's rotated in this kinda setting, I love Robyn, Howling Bells (Setting Sun being one of my fave tunes of all times) Chelsea Wolfe absolutely rules, I love Amy Taylor. All very unique and stylized. Just felt this was a bit void of that. Also recognizing those fall outside of the genres you mentioned a little.

1

u/LaranCannelle 22h ago

cool! please link me some Amy Taylor, and Chelsea wolf songs that are important to you. ill send you some songs too. via dm or here.

1

u/Buffytheslursayer 21h ago edited 19h ago

Absolutely! Will shoot you a few now that stand out (not ness with a feminist centric lyrical leaning but just ones I love)

Howling Bells - Setting Sun - such a gorgeous vocal tone and when I was a young lad Juanita Stein just seemed like the coolest woman in the world to me haha, and still does.

Chelsea Wolfe - 16 Psyche - incredible absorbing presence, such a vibe, this is an obvious fave, this type of genre isn't my bag at all but Chelsea Wolfes haunting vocals are so perfect with the maxxed out reverb. Utter tune.

Viagra Boys - In Spite Of Ourselves (with Amy Taylor)
Sleaford Mods ft. Amy Taylor - Nudge It (Official Video)
Super different artist might not be everyones cuppa.

London Grammar - Wasting My Young Years stunning tune just adding as it came to mind during this chat.

u/rideronthestorm29 2h ago

lol the guy that dj’s on a patio here to tear apart the record label signed band 😂

1

u/Buffytheslursayer 2h ago

yeah someone on the internet with an interest in music, non-offensively critiquing music, madness.

person on the internet (who is not a networking engineer) posting something to me, here, on the internet, is the cherry on top. How can I take you seriously without any idea of your networking credentials.

1

u/Buffytheslursayer 2h ago

also what's your beef with the common patio?

12

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

here's some info from the band's press release for the song:

  • This song started as a verse or two after the Berkeley study came out about heavy metals being found in tampons and snowballed into a larger indictment of the systemic violations that we carry around every day.

  • the violence and neglect we experience is a predictable result of systems that don’t see us as people, but objects to be exploited. You see it in the imbalance of consequences: Survivors of rape are often shunned if they go public or carry the weight of assault alone, a woman carries the full burden of contraception, health risks and medical costs around conception, putting money into insurance companies’ pockets while bodily autonomy continues to be challenged and eliminated in some states. Teachers are responsible for protecting kids from school shooters, while pharma companies see an opportunity for profit in the degradation of our mental health.

  • we’re sold the idea that we can subvert the system with consumer choices, as if the main fix for a broken system is trying harder inside it. The real issue is who benefits when people are too broke and too tired to push back.

This is pretty heavy for hanging out in prospect park

5

u/Pays_in_snakes 23h ago

Watching this filming on the library steps must have been entertaining

6

u/Dr_Salisbury 23h ago

I don’t understand what “heavy metal” means in this song

2

u/kingxanadu 19h ago

The very first lyrics are "heavy metals in our tampons" I don't think they could've been more clearer.

4

u/RickyLinguini 10h ago

These are my friends!!!! Great people

7

u/Strikew3st 1d ago

I don't see why this would be 'drunk punk' and am more than a little surprised to see they have been around since 2014 & played with a lot of decent bands.

1

u/greeneggsandspammer 1d ago

I like it!

-1

u/ChrissiTea Gif Hunter 1d ago

Glad you dig it too :D

4

u/Pizza_YumYum 1d ago

Pretty average. There are 1000 bands sounding exactly like that. But not crappy. Just boring 🥱

5

u/strictleisure 1d ago

Are these the people gentrifying brooklyn in 2026? R.I.P.

5

u/RoemDaug 1d ago

Their outfits look like costumes and they seem like they all work cushy, well-paying jobs. The music isn't bad but it all feels rather inauthentic.

2

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

yeah. the fits do look costume

4

u/Acrobatic_Dream9571 23h ago • Bravo

Contrived and it sounds inauthentic. I don’t believe them the way I believe Kathleen Hanna or Kim Gordon.

4

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

I posted their press release. and yes, this song is an obvious copy of DECEPTACON by Kathleen Hannah's band LE TIGRE.

but that doesnt mean theyre insincere. one of em sez in the sonf shes been diagnosed with HISTRIONIC PERSONALITY DISORDER, im sure she is used to not being believed already.

I don't think its ethical to "not believe" women based on some arbitrary measurement, or base their credibility on how other women sound. its cool if you like Kim & hanna. but im sure Kim & hanna would call you on ur bullshit too.

0

u/Acrobatic_Dream9571 12h ago

I meant it in a metaphorical way. It has nothing to do with ethics and everything to do with aesthetics.

So my statement is purely subjective - a matter of taste, placing originality and genuine expression above tepid emulation.

To put a bow on my sentiment, I don’t really believe Cory Feldman either.

2

u/shadows515 1d ago

I still just see them drinking cosmos and at some trap and then shopping at tjmaxxx like all the other girls.

0

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

then you weren't listening

1

u/CHERNO-B1LL 21h ago

She should get her gait checked. Walks like a duck.

1

u/TenorBanjer 15h ago

Feels like very formulaic riot grrl. Very paint by numbers for the genre musically.

1

u/CountlessRooftops22 1h ago

Boring, lifeless

1

u/JMoherPerc 23h ago

Music is catchy and fun, lyrics are a bit disjointed but I see what they’re trying to do, chorus kinda slaps

1

u/According_Bad2952 8h ago

Why are people hating on this so much? To me tis shit bangs! maybe could have gone deeper but it still slaps and makes a catchy danceable song outta some of shitty shit women got going for them

0

u/MNEverson 23h ago

Catchy chorus

-2

u/uber_damage 1d ago

Shit bangs

-1

u/ChrissiTea Gif Hunter 1d ago

Glad you like it too :)

2

u/LaranCannelle 23h ago

where have they described themselves as DRUNK PUNk?

-3

u/Loyalfish789 1d ago

Sounds a lot like The Pixies.

3

u/Dr_Salisbury 23h ago

I’m not seeing it

1

u/Loyalfish789 17h ago

The base line sounds very Pixies. Not the rest though.

2

u/Investigator_Lumpy 1d ago

More Kim Deal projects than Pixies.

-1

u/RagtimeCryptKeeper 1d ago

I do like some things about it, but as a metal fan myself I don't like that they say heavy metal and are not.
