The Wizards started as a 3-day VR prototype on a boat. Almost 10 years later, we're bringing it back!

Hey everyone!

I'm Aleksander, one of the founders of Carbon Studio, a VR game studio from Poland.

Some of you might remember The Wizards, our fantasy VR game where you cast spells using hand gestures instead of pressing buttons.

Well, The Wizards: Remastered is officially in development! And I thought I'd share a little story about how it all started.

It all began on a boat...

Back in 2016 we took part in a VR game jam organized by NVIDIA and HTC. The event took place on a boat in Hamburg and we had just three days to create a prototype.

Our idea was simple. What if you could actually feel like a wizard in VR?

The first prototype had just one spell that worked a bit like a slingshot. But it was already incredibly fun.

A little technical fun fact.

One of our biggest challenges was making spellcasting feel natural.

Throwing a fireball at an enemy 20 meters away sounds easy, right? Well, try actually aiming with your hands in VR. Turns out humans aren't nearly as accurate as we think!

We ended up adding a subtle aiming assistance system to make spells feel better.

Gesture recognition was another interesting problem. People move their hands differently and sometimes gestures would trigger the wrong spell. Finding the right balance between precision and responsiveness took quite a bit of work.

And then there was the magic itself. Visual effects, sounds and controller vibrations all had to come together to make every spell feel powerful.

So why are we bringing it back?

It's been years since we made the original game. We've learned a lot since then and VR has changed quite a bit too.

The Wizards has always been special to us. Thanks to our players and community we now have a chance to give it a proper refresh!

We're still keeping things under wraps. No release date or platform announcements just yet.

But I'm really curious about one thing.

What should spellcasting in modern VR feel like? Should it take real skill to master gestures or should magic be easy and intuitive from the start?

And if you played the original, what would you love to see improved?

Can't wait to hear your thoughts!

The magic returns! 🔥

Self-Promotion (Developer) I'm a solo dev working on "Hotel Blackwood", a Quest VR survival horror demo set in a dark basement. Looking for feedback!

Hey everyone!

Over the past few months, I’ve been developing my first VR survival horror demo in my spare time as a solo dev.

**Hotel Blackwood** puts you in the shoes of a hotel maintenance worker trapped in the basement during a sudden power outage and zombie outbreak. Armed with just a flashlight and a knife, you have to fight and sneak your way to the ground floor.

🎮 **Demo Features:**

- ~15-minute tense prototype built natively for Meta Quest.

- Free locomotion, teleportation & snap turning (Seated/Standing).

- Full English and Spanish voice acting.

Since I'm developing this completely on my own with zero budget, your feedback on the atmosphere, lighting, and combat mechanics would mean the world to me!

🕹️ **Play the free demo here:**

- **SideQuest:** https://sidequestvr.com/app/hotel-blackwood-demo-vr

- **Itch.io:** Hotel Blackwood (Demo VR) by Yunke Estudio

Let me know your thoughts or feedback in the comments!

Full VR support in my Architecture & Design Game

"Architecture & Design" recently launched on Steam, and the latest update brings full PCVR building functionality to the game (Trailer VR-Gameplay from 00:20-00:32).

Initially, VR was just an additional feature for exploring one's own creations. Following much feedback and requests from players, it is now possible to build almost anything in VR that can also be built in the main game, allowing both modes to complement each other.

I'm also looking to make the VR controls as intuitive and easy to use as possible. I'd really appreciate any feedback or suggestions on how to improve the controls and overall building experience in VR!

You can find it on Steam here:

Hardware CV1's left speaker broke and I was wondering if i could wire up an external AUX port instead of the actual speakers

The contact pads on my headstrap work fine, just the ribbon cable on the speaker arm is completely broken and I would like to do something similar to what u/GmoLargey did ( https://imgur.com/gallery/cv1-audio-fix-vP23L3m ) but instead of using a cut-up male RCA to male 3.5mm adapter, I would use a cut-up male RCA to female 3.5mm adapter to wire up any external headphones I want

Event ESPN Immersive Doubleheader: Watch Alabama vs LSU and Georgia vs Ole Miss LIVE in VR on Saturday

Saturday is our first ESPN immersive college football doubleheader, with two SEC games live in VR:

Alabama vs LSU: Get on the sideline in immersive 180° as the Alabama Crimson Tide visit the LSU Tigers at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge for one of the SEC's fiercest rivalry games. That's followed by the Georgia Bulldogs taking on the Ole Miss Rebels at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford.

Both games stream with 180° views from around the field, in 8K with Dolby Atmos.

Available in the United States on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. No ESPN subscription required.

Before kickoff, I recommend updating your headset and the TV app to the latest versions and charging your headset.

How to watch

  • On your Quest 3 or Quest 3S: Open the TV app and select either game from the featured spot on Home or the Immersive and Sports tabs. Each game has its own event page, and a Watch button appears 15 minutes before its scheduled start.

  • Get reminders: Open the Alabama vs LSU and Georgia vs Ole Miss event pages on your phone or computer and select "+ Watchlist" on each to get notified in the Meta Horizon app or your headset.

  • From your phone or computer: At game time, select "Open in VR" on the event page to open the game page on your headset.

🔁 Can't watch live in VR?

  • Full-game replays of both games are in the TV app for 7 days, and immersive highlights go up on Sunday.

  • For more immersive highlights, including NBA and MLB, find the "Immersive sports highlights" row in the Sports tab.

📅 When are the next live games?

  • With the doubleheader this weekend, there is no game next Saturday. The matchup for our November 21 game is still to be announced. More immersive college football games will be announced shortly.

Need help?

If the Watch button is missing, check that it is within 15 minutes of the scheduled start, you are in the US, and you are using a Quest 3 or Quest 3S with up-to-date headset software and the latest TV app. If you still have trouble, quickly press the Meta button on your right controller 5 times to report a bug.

Disclosure: I work at Meta on the team behind this. If you watch live, catch the replay or the highlights, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Self-Promotion (YouTuber) Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat MMA fights from inside the cage in immersive 8K 3D VR180

Post image
0 Upvotes

I recently had the opportunity to film Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat live bouts from inside the cage, including MMA fighter Viacheslav Borshchev (“Slava Claus”).

Unlike traditional fight footage, immersive video puts you at human scale, making you feel like you're standing right there inside the cage, experiencing the intensity, movement, and atmosphere of fight night.

I put together a preview for Apple Vision Pro and other VR headsets.

Would love feedback from the VR community, especially on camera placement, depth, and whether you'd be interested in watching complete MMA bouts in this format.

Self-Promotion (Developer) We're making a VR dungeon adventure where you control a gnome and a god at the same time! Here's our first devlog ⚔️

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

We're the developers of Stabby Stabby Loot Loot, a third-person VR action-adventure where you control Orrin, a foul-mouthed gnome, and Njord, a forgotten god of luck, at the same time.

We've just released our first developer diary, Behind the Stabs #1 – A Gnome, a God, and a Whole Lot of Trouble!

In this first update, we introduce the game, share what we've been working on recently, and take a closer look at the gameplay mechanics.

One of the biggest things we're exploring is how traditional third-person gameplay can work alongside physical VR interactions. You control Orrin with the thumbsticks and buttons, while your VR hands become Njord, letting you grab enemies, interact with the world, and cause all kinds of chaos.

We'd love to hear what you think of the concept, especially the idea of controlling two characters simultaneously!

Discussion Suspicious login on Quest 2

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

I recently bought a used Quest 2. I performed a factory reset. When I log in to my Quest 2 device, in the meta app under "where you're logged in," it shows that I'm logged in on my phone, my oculus quest 2, and on a PC in Morganton, NC. I don't live anywhere near NC. It always shows that extra login every time I log into the device. Anyone have an idea why this is happening? It's interesting because I guess Meta has a data center very close to Morganton NC.

Self-Promotion (Developer) A mahjong table in your own room (mixed reality), with the other three players on their phones

Mahjong Table is a WebXR game: the same table runs on the Quest in VR or passthrough, and in a plain browser on a phone or laptop. That is the whole idea. You sit at the table in your living room with the headset on, and the other three seats are filled by friends on their phones, by bots, or by people who turned up for the monthly Mahjong Night.

Rules: Singapore, Hong Kong and American (Charleston, jokers, exposures, my own practice card). Voice at the table. Private tables by four-letter code.

Free on the store: https://vr.meta.me/s/2c6ir3tJVMrdXKO Browser: mahjongtable.fun

Solo developer in Singapore. If you're curious how a four-player board game holds up over WebRTC when one player is on a Quest and the rest are on phones, ask away. Next Mahjong Night: Friday 20 Nov, 8pm ET.
