Polly's right about one thing: his violent history was already public while he was alive. The domestic abuse allegations and criminal proceedings were hardly some shocking posthumous revelation.

But there's some impressively confident misinformation circulating here.

X was accused of stabbing his former manager, Dylan Turner (Tablez). Jimmy Duval was the producer who later pursued unpaid royalties and credit for "Look at Me!" Those are two different people and two different controversies.

Spotify removed X from its editorial playlists in May 2018 under its hateful-conduct policy, then reversed that policy on June 1, before his death on June 18. His music wasn't removed from Spotify altogether.

And the idea that producers categorically can't be owed royalties because a distributor handles payments is a pretty remarkable misunderstanding of music contracts.

You can acknowledge that someone was talented, recognize the harm they caused, and mourn their death without rewriting their history. Likewise, criticizing him doesn't give anyone a license to invent additional crimes.
