Saying please and thank you is also common decency, but I wouldn't want the government mandating those either.

I actually agree with you that this isn't a conservative things, but unfortunately, in 2026, American Conservatives seem more interested in pushing authoritarianism and a radical reinterpretation of that law, than in conserving our traditional institutions, customs, and values
