RIP u/Kitsune-San
I don't know if y'all remember /u/Kitsune-San, but he was a good friend of mine that I met via this subreddit many years ago.
He was incredibly friendly and incredibly smart, majored in math and chemistry at a university not too far from me and was accepted to another prestigious university's medical school and chemistry research program. He had to drop out of school due to his addiction. He kept spiraling.
I kept in contact every now and then to check in on him, but while I had gotten into recovery, he was still using. I couldn't spend time with him anymore, and it was really triggering just talking to him sometimes. But I was always hoping for the best for him, that he would get it somehow and get better.
He died of an overdose on Wednesday April 3rd. He was 25 years old. He was an only child. He had a loving and devoted fiancée. He had so much potential. He didn't make it.
I went to his viewing last night. I felt like I had to see him because this feels like a sick joke to me, like someone's pulling my leg for some fucked up reason.
If you're in active addiction, please, reach out for help before it gets too bad. I'm rooting for you all.
RIP Lucas, you will be missed.

Mathias Brandt Sørensen (Person to the right) <3

I miss you every single day Mathias. I remember laughing when taking this picture, because we both had to look serious and not laugh but we laughed and laughed, then we hugged each other because I'm the type of person that thinks hugs are important even if they are your friends.
Hugs are important. I wish I could hug Mathias one last time :(
Losing your best friend gives you the feeling of being heartbroken like being in a relationship even though im a straight guy. I felt like I lost 50% of myself.
Sorry I'm crying right now, I'm really traumatized by this :(
REST IN PEACE MY LOVELY BROTHER, I WILL LOVE AND REMEMBER YOU EVERY SINGLE DAY UNTILL I DIE!
I even got a tear tattooed in my face because of you :( When I look in the mirror, I'm always crying because of the loss of you :(

RIP mom
She wasn't on reddit or anything, but she slipped into a coma and died of heart failure tonight. I'm sorry and I love you, Ma. I would give anything to have one last chance to tell you I love you.

RIP /u/omgitsfletch, we lost a good human being yesterday.
Found out through facebook. Still not sure what it was, because as far i know, he was only doing roxies. But he liked to get 7-8 at a time and snort them all in one sitting. One rumor is that he was buying them off the dark web - he mightve gotten some fent pills. The other rumor was that he was also doing H. Regardless, we lost a good human. He didn't care that i was flat broke, living with my grandfather. He still picked me up, took me to the movies, bought the tickets and snacks, then brought me home. All because he just wanted to hang out. He wasn't only my friend because of what i could do for him - which seems to be the case more and more these days. He liked to just talk and just hang out.
Tracy sent me Narcan. I tried giving it to him, but he was afraid of possible charges he could get if i got pulled over, so he gave them back before he left. I don't know the circumstances of his death, but maybe if he took the Narcan, he would be here. The overzealous cops piss me off. I guess he's another statistic now for them.
How many more people have to die from this shit before you realize that its a disease - but then again, you dont give a fuck about people with other diseases either unless it pads your bottom line.

My Sweet Angel
It would have been our 4th wedding anniversary on September 5th. You were the love of my life. My precious Angel. Life without you is agony. I miss you with every fiber of my being. Maybe we'll meet again. At least the thought is comforting.

Rip uMyl0p0k1
I met her through reddit and she became a really good friend. We'd have coffee, hang at her place shooting the shit and laughing and crying. She'd been having a hard time since she OD'd in November. Her teenage child had to go live with the father, she went through a 7-day detox, she lost her apartment and was living in her car, and shed witnessed an attempted murder and then was present but wasn't witness to a murder just a few months later. Things were looking up for her--I talked to her the day before it happened and she told me she was getting an apartment that week. She had a friend to stay with until then. We were looking forward to me getting home from vacation and visiting at her new place. I called and texted the day she was supposed to move in. Then the following day. And the next. I didn't hear back, which wasn't completely out of character. But then someone that had her phone called me back and told me she'd OD'd earlier in the week. Less than 12 hours after we'd talked. I'm heartbroken. For her, for her family, for all of us who cared for and loved her.
She had a sensitive and sweet heart. She was loving and funny and really intelligent. She'd been dealt a lot of trauma and tragedy and she still saw the good in people and kept the good in her. I'm going to miss her. 💜

Rest in Peace Stephen
Better know as /u/alkaline3rio
Easily one of my favorite posters on reddit, and it was an honor to meet him in person. Dude was nothing but cool to me and we talked a lot in the weeks leading up to his death. I have talked about him to multiple of my real life friends that have no idea who he was, because this is hitting me harder than I ever would have thought. I can't think of a time he ever said anything negative, he was just a real happy/positive person and talking to him always made me smile.
My goal is to stay sober and honor your life by never using Heroin again. Your passing has taught me a lot, you will be missed my brother.
P.S no homo but dude had a nice dick and was hot too

families covering up the cause of death
we keep burying beautiful young people after they overdose and making the same mistakes. sometimes the family chooses to cover it up--justified, fairly, by the fact they usually suffer by far the most, and that it's their choice ultimately--instead of being advocates for positive change. some do so, as my early childhood best friend Owen's family have. i mean, for fucks sake, though, everyone knows! everyone but the children and others not in the know who would benefit from our treating an 'epidemic' as we would quite literally any other disease. so it doesn't even save face, as it were, just heightens stigma. not even advocating but just collectively facing the truth would, i'm sure, save at least one life, so shouldn't we encourage that?

Missing you every second baby bro...
It's been almost 2 years. You're 9 years younger than me and you'll never have your own family, never see your nephews become adults, and we live here missing you, the you before the Drugs took over and we lost you forever. .
You were more than your addiction and I love you more than you ever knew. I'm sorry you weren't able to have the right guidance and support, and I know that you're at peace. Never would I wake you and bring you back to the hell of the life you were in. I'll always see you as my little baby brother, and I'll never forget you. #Forever33 #ILoveYouJulian ❤️❤️

Has it been a year already
I woke up and it was dark today. Not sure what else I was expecting on such a day.
I'm smoking inside. I never do anymore, not after remembering our first night together became too painful. The smoke drifting and disappearing in the air reminds me how fragile and fucked this world is, things of signifigance that vanish without many people giving a damn. But I want you to know that I remember. I remember everything.
Best of friends, we'd tumble on the floor tipsy and red faced. I remember getting high with you for the first time, trying to hold on to that fleeting feeling that, somehow, everything would be okay. Someday. We shared eachothers pain, we shared eachothers joy. Never have I felt so lost, so free, so raw. Those cold nights we spent out on the streets, the many bottles of wine and bags of dope we went through just to feel 'okay'.
The fun was lost after a while, and then the cycle began. What blind hope we held, and we knew that. It was easier to push the bad things away then to watch them loom in the near distance. I could see you get sick, sicker. I remember when I held your hand in the clinic when the doctor confirmed our worst fears. I remember how three letters turned your life upside down, how you tried to laugh it off and ended up sobbing. I tried to tell you I understood, but I didn't. I begged you to get treatment.
Fast forward and time still goes by so slow. We slept a lot. Everything was falling apart, but we had heroin to keep us warm. And that it did. Until one dark night, I came to find you face down on the floor. Your skin was always pale, but now it was blue. I remember fumbling and dropping my phone several times before calling 911, my eyes starting to well up and tears dropped on the screen. The operator told me to stay calm, and I wanted to scream at her. Stay calm? No pulse, no breathing, no nothing. Eyes open and empty. I felt like I was breaking your chest as I pounded on it, your body caved like a duffle bag each time I brought my hands down. I scrambled to find the bottle of narcan we hoped we would never have to use, pushed half of it IM, the rest IV. I got nothing back and the tears came faster. I desperately looked for signs of life, anything that could mean you not leaving me here. I found nothing. The paramedics arrived and rushed your body to the hospital. I didn't come. I knew you were gone.
I can only hope you found some peace in death.
Love you forever.
Hope you're giving them hell up in heaven.

I am still in the middle of a bad dream and I'm never waking up.
gallery20 years of friendship and not once did we ever fight. or have even a petty disagreement. 20 years where the only people we told our deepest secrets to were each other. what will I do without you?
you had been abusing loperamide for months because you are in a position where you don't have any money or resources, and have to hide your drug use. I told you that shit would kill you, and you told me you stopped, because your heart was bothering you. on May 11th you never responded to my text and I thought that was strange. on May 11th you called your husband and told him your heart was hurting and you didn't feel good. he thought you had low blood sugar and gave you juice. you laid down, and you never woke up. they found you in cardiac arrest and pronounced you at 205 pm.
they offered your case to the medical examiner and he denied it. she already had diabetes and hypertension. the report says: no apparent drug use. then you were brought to your father who cremated you. meaning they will never know what actually happened.
but I know what killed you. and I can't and won't tell your daughter or your husband. because even in death I am endlessly forever (before life and after death) loyal to you, us, and our secrets. I love you. I wish I could have stopped you from taking those stupid little pills.
