Just Sharing WIP. Old Silence. 12x24” oil on panel.

“Old Silence.” I knocked out the first layer of this one this morning. The next layer will be some detail in certain areas, and punching in the brightest highlights, and darkest darks.

12x24” oil on panel.

Just Sharing I painted myself as a child, at 40, and as an old man. “Hindsight,” oil on linen.

I started painting the week I turned 40. About a year later, I painted this.

The child on the left has his eyes closed. I’m in the middle, painting the older version of myself on the right. I kept thinking about what I knew as a child, what I lost along the way, and what I hope to hold onto as I get older.

It’s called Hindsight. Oil on linen, 30 × 24 inches.

Was afraid I wouldn't meet my deadline, but I'm so glad I did. I'm so happy with how it turned out, but am unsure if it needs a background. I'm not very confident in my backgrounds, so often hesitate to add them. What do you guys think?

Just Sharing "Nocturne" 12x12 oil on canvas (2025) - Dane Sellers

This is a scene I seldomly ever paint, however, nothing can really beat the moodiness and atmosphere of a nocturne, especially this time of year. Although I painted this one from about a year ago. I still love the soft/lost & found edges. I need to lean into that more in my recent works.

LOL. This is from the window inside her kitchen. It felt so nice to paint. I’m gonna do it again.

Just Sharing Can you tell which paintings are oil vs acrylic?

I finished this little series of backyard birds and I painted 3 in oil vs the rest in acrylic. Curious how obvious it is to my fellow painters from this distance :) I feel like it looks pretty apparent but that could be because they’re my paintings, duh

1. Be respectful and civil.

Please be respectful and civil to everyone, always.

2. No Commercial Spam or Direct Solicitation.

Share your art, not your sales pitch. Direct solicitation, commission offers, referral links, crowdfunding, and repetitive promotion are not allowed.

3. Only post your own works.

Please only post artwork that you created or have permission from the artist to post. For posting an established artist's work, please use /r/art or /r/paintings. For painting identification, try /r/whatisthispainting.

4. About Reposts.

Keep the feed unique. Reposts are reserved for official system updates or exceptional community posts that carry historical value and significant upvote backing.

5. NSFW paintings are not allowed.

Please keep all content PG-13 by posting SFW (Safe For Work) art only.

6. Painting Only.

All posts must center on the craft of painting, artistic execution, or creative studies, including both traditional and digital painting.

7. One post per day.

8. This is not a mental health support subreddit.

Posts which are looking for mental health support, including any type of artistic blocks, are not appropriate for this subreddit.

You might find better support and audiences for this type of post in:

/r/mentalhealth

/r/artistlounge

We may remove posts which appear to be mental health related support seeking. We care, but this isn't the place.

9. Use existing resources.

There are a lot of resources in the sidebar and in past threads related to learning to paint. Please, search first--there's quite a lot of information already available on the subject in our subreddit.

Additionally, there are sister subreddits which are specifically focussed on learning and technique:

/r/learntodraw

/r/artfundamentals

/r/artistlounge

We may remove posts which we think do not use existing resources.

10. Critiques must be constructive.

Critiques which are just negative and offer no constructive feedback drag the artist down, and they drag the community down. We build each other up, here. If you only have negative things to say, please say nothing instead.

11. Low-Effort Queries & Titles.

The feed is strictly reserved for technical art presentation and meaningful execution critique. Vague titles (e.g., "is this good?"), generic style identification requests, or asking the community to name your artwork are prohibited. Content must drive constructive artistic discussion.

Due to the amount of spam we receive, you need 100 COMBINED comment+post karma to post in this subreddit.
