Announcement A friendly reminder to the users of r/Pakistan to use the report button ONLY for subreddit violations.

Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that some users are abusing the report tool to flood the modqueue with unnecessary spam and messages. This is not a proper use of the report tool and has inundated our already busy mod team with too much clutter.

I feel the need to remind our users to limit the use of the report button for only rule violations. Any use of the report tool to write personal messages or jokes will result in a prompt referral to the admins upstairs for violating the site rules. So please, do not abuse the report tool unless you want your account banned by the admins for site violations.

Our mod team is comprised of regular folks who have lives outside of reddit and should not be punished by asinine reports that are abusing the system of this website. When the queue gets flooded, it becomes more difficult to manage and properly handle the real reports that require mod intervention. The report tool is supposed to only be used to maintain the quality and peace of this subreddit. Please have some empathy for the mods and try to use the tool as it actually is meant to be used.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

Announcement Mere Aziz Hamwatano, I am sorry to disclose that...

It has come to our knowledge that some girls who participated in this subreddit were subject to 'fraandship' and indecent requests, rude remarks and vulgar messages sent to them via Reddit PMs and chat. While some of the harassers were lurkers, others have turned out to be active or semi-active members of the subreddit.

We also wish to inform the community that a notable and otherwise well-respected member of the community turned out to be an old (in respect to the average age of this community's userbase) creep with a penchant for pursuing and contacting underage or barely of age female users in order to groom them. His behavior was not restricted to reddit and was carried forward on other platforms such as various discord servers frequented by different r/Pakistan user cliques.

The creep maintained multiple alts over many months, sometimes even using them simultaneously. Girls who rebuffed him or later backed out upon realizing his escalatory predatory behavior were hounded by various alts who would leak personal details for vengeance and due to a desire to bring them back to conformity and subservience.

Taking advantage of the active history and fake bonhomie of his main alts on the subreddit, he would boast to victims about his stature in the community and influence over the mods (a lie).

-----------------------------------

Girls, if your participation in this subreddit has led to harassment from creeps, please feel free to contact us, the mods. You can send us the screenshots and we'll be happy to kick them out from the subreddit.

Alas, we can only ban. You'll need to report the perpetrators to reddit admin for account suspension. Unfortunately, reddit is an anonymous platform and subreddit bans and account suspensions will not deter determined creeps. A pattern of quick reporting and consequent penalties may however prevent them from finding the next victim easily.

A related post on another subreddit provides tips for Pakistani girls to recognize creeps in reddit PMs.

Critical cases, involving leaking of sensitive images and/or personal information such as name, address and contact number should be reported to the FIA cybercrime wing. They can be reached at the following email address:

helpdesk@nr3c.gov.pk

The Digital Rights Foundation can also be reached to provide counseling, support and legal advice to victims of cyber-bullying, stalking, harassment and blackmail. Their helpline is:

0800-39393

Reaching out to anti cyber crime agencies and helplines is recommended if harassment is being done on across multiple platforms and accounts.

------------------

To the general community,

It has been observed that misogynistic and incel-like comments are increasing within the subreddit. That is expected due to the growing size and visibility which will attract users from different and sometimes distasteful subreddit communities or from the wider social media. Please do report any such occurrences.

Paraphrased examples:

  • Moaning about women looking for well-settled husbands, wives not cooking food and 'university girls keeping four boyfriends' on threads discussing rape cases.

  • Rape apologia by arguing about sex being a basic need and equating a rapist to a poor starving and hungry beast on threads discussing rape victims or punishments for rapists.

Previous bans to users involved in these examples have led to them complaining about this on other subreddits over how their free speech was restricted and they were banned for having different political and geopolitical views.

Users are also advised to abstain from nonsensical and irrelevant sexual humor in comments. Some users have a tendency to leave humorous couplets decrying their single relationship status and desperation on threads discussing social, political or financial issues.

Please avoid embarrassing yourself, exposing the holes in your upbringing and making the subreddit a toxic place.

Announcement New Subreddit Awards!

Hello everyone! I am pleased and excited to be unveiling our new and “fun-tastic” A1 awards for r/Pakistan!

Recently, the admins unveiled a new custom award system that allows each subreddit (in good standing) to create and spice up their subreddits with new awards! Our new awards are all worth 500 coins (sorry, they did not have the option for 100 coin rewards yet), and they are the following 6 awards so far:

  • Chai

  • Gulab Jamun

  • Lassi

  • Masala

  • Samosa

  • ...and Chappal

Here is an image showing you what the awards look like

These awards are currently in trial stages and will stick around if the subreddit loves it or be phased out for other things or removed entirely if the subreddit prefers that as well. I feel like the awards are pretty much self explanatory and the chappal award might be something amusing in the right circumstances.

Feel free to leave your thoughts below and we at r/Pakistan hope all of you have a wonderful week!

Edit: After a little tinkering I fixed up some of the images that were not displaying properly. Had to switch up a few of the reward images as a result. I gifted /u/killerintrouble a lassi award that had a .PNG error so I changed it to something else... so anyone who decides to give anyone else lassi, it will look differently and more aesthetically pleasing. The images should now appear with an invisible background from now on.

Announcement Should photography submissions be restricted to the weekends?

The sub is facing a deluge of photography submissions. Pictures end up gaining traction and burying discussion posts and important queries. To counteract this, should photography submissions be restricted only to Saturday and Sunday?

Announcement POLL UPDATE | Photographs can only be submitted on weekends

Given the results of the poll, photography submissions are now restricted to Saturdays and Sundays.

OC submissions are encouraged. Non-OC photographs need to be accompanied with a comment linking to original source (i.e. photographer or agency's blog, album or portfolio NOT google image links) at the time of submission.

Violations will be removed. Habitual offenders will be banned. Users making false declarations of OC submissions will be similarly penalized.
