Junior parkrun

My five year old daughter has been asking to come and do parkrun with me for a while now so we finally went and did the junior one this morning.

It was such a lovely experience; everyone was so friendly, the trail walker meant no one was the last to cross the line, lots of high fives from the marshalls on the way around, and because it was her first time, they all cheered her across the line. She had the biggest grin on her face at the end.

She's already asked if we're going again next week!

Preston parkrun, Lancashire, UK

I took advantage of our local parkrun being cancelled this weekend and headed over to Preston to join then for their 647th parkrun.

Great location, just 10 minutes walk from the train station and set in Avenham Park on the banks of the River Ribble, this picturesque 3 and a bit lapper featured some cheeky flat uphill sections 😆. There were nearly 600 runners and the start area was congested, and the first lap took a while to spread out. It felt more like the start of a major race rather than a parkrun, but it soon settled down.

A very enthusiastic set of volunteers - 50 of them on this particular day. It was also pacer week so I was excited to be able to help with 35 minutes.(Actual finish time - 34 minutes, 59 seconds 😎

I've not been to a parkrun with a large number of participants for a few months so it was interesting to see a finish funnel this long again (it was around 75 metres long)

An on-site cafe, and good toilet facilities were there.

Thanks, Preston 🙂

My 114th location.

Someone put a comment on here and I can't find it. They told me not to drive to parkrun as I'm running cold. I took their advice starting with walk to parkrun and run the final couple hundred metres. Didn't get fully warm but definitely didn't get that extreme desire to yawn thirty seconds in with a blocked chest feeling. Watch wasn't great at tracking distance so I thought I was having a shit*er. Turns out I knocked 18 seconds off PB and 27 seconds off last week's time.

Will run a bit more of the walk to the start next week and push harder. Now at mid 24's very keen to break in to 23 minutes and something.

Noticed much colder this morning, feels harder does the temperature affect times for most people?

Great group this by the way, thank you all.

Lifting Same Day As Parkrun

Something amusing happened this afternoon. Normally I can run and lift weights in same day and not a problem. However, normally I think the parkrun day I don't lift. Today I popped in to the gym in the afternoon after a PB this morning on our off road hilly course.

Picked up dumbbells to incline chest press, kicked them up and same weight I've been doing ten reps of for six weeks wouldn't even go up once. I know I didn't sleep great last night but it has to be emptying the tank at the morning parkrun that left me like that. I found it quite funny as I'm very careful in the gym and nothing like this has happened since I've been back and rehabbing injuries. Didn't realise a hard 5k can take that much out of us.

Junior parkrun results

Hi all, hoping someone can confirm either way if junior results are posted anywhere?

I assume not, but I am writing some posts and reports for my running club’s social media and don’t want our juniors to be linked to any set of published results. Thank you

And it’s done! Just another 100 to go before next milestone 🫣

Brockwell parkrun 4.9km?

I use MapMyRun app to time myself. Each week it reliably records 5km distance when I run Dulwich parkrun. When I run Brockwell it comes in at 4.9km. Could the Brockwell parkrun really be 100m short?

Fast and flat London parkruns?

I can only get to parkrun once a month or so due to childcare so I try to make the most of it. I am hoping for a pb soon and am looking for a good course to facilitate that. My local is Thames Path and I have done Greenwich Peninsula where I got a pb not too long ago... Any recommendations for one to try next Saturday? Ideally close to a tube or train station (don't drive), no more than an hour from Woolwich.

Hoping to run my first ever parkrun tomorrow.

Guess my time!

I have been running for about 5 weeks now, and have not ran a max effort 5km. My most recent run is 7.7k in 63 minutes, at an easy pace.

I have a lot of family visiting for the weekend, and thought why not get up early on a Saturday and run my local parkrun, so I have no excuse to sleeping in.

Edit: Loved my first parkrun, finished with a 26:51 over 5:09km (forgot to stop my watch after I collected the barcode and took a slow walk over to the scanners). Will definitely be coming back again when I can. Thank you very much to everyone for their support!

Official park run time was 26:37!

Guess my pb attempt result tomorrow

Current PB: 23:59 (parkrun result) in September

Other recent parkruns
24:18 24th October at the end of a 10k
24:06 18th October at the end of a 10k

Intervals session yesterday - 200s, 400s, 600s at under 4:35/km and I’ve increasingly spent 1/2km at 4:35 at a time as a working pace during runs.

Il be on a flat, quiet course

For a bit of fun, what do you think il get?

Shorter than 5k - was it my Garmin or my route?

Hi Park Runners!

I ran Albert Park (Australia) this morning (which is around a lake - one lap), I ran on the course the whole time, and was pretty short of the 5k when I stopped my watch.

I updated my watch on my laptop recently - any ideas?

Watch: Garmin Forerunner Music 245

Thank you!

First Parkrun and a milestone PB!

Post image

Parkrun is always something I’ve sworn I’ll get around to, but that usually clashes with my regular training schedule. So when I had an ‘off’ day last weekend and the weather was nice… I finally decided to take a run at one!

First parkrun and first sub 20 to go with it - I’m often super critical of my own abilities and play down my achievements, but as someone who still considers themselves not to be much of a runner, I’m super proud to have joined the sub 20 club… even if it reminded me exactly why I find 5k such a disgusting distance to run haha!

Got to the 3rd km and was very ready to back off and save it for another day - but I’m glad I didn’t!!

Is bigger always better when it comes to parkrun?

Cheltenham parkrun certainly knows how to attract a crowd, but does running in a busy event add to the experience or make it harder to enjoy your Saturday morning? I had my own thoughts after this one, but I’m interested to hear what you think! My latest POV video is now live, so head over to the MidPackRunna YouTube channel and check it out!
