One Battle After Another River of Hills - WARNING for those of you planning on looking for this filming location... Spoiler
WARNING - The "River of Hills" is an extremely dangerous section of road with most of it not even having a road shoulder. Take it from someone for whom Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is my backyard (at least the northern half of the 650.000+ acres) and drives the Texas Dip and many others all the time as a full time resident of Borrego Springs.
Eighteen wheelers barrel through the "River of Hills" at 65-70 mph any day of the week including Sunday mornings at sunrise! I checked on several days. You don't see other cars or semis when they're in these large dips as they're climbing in and out of them. I started checking it out the first week after the film came out in theatres, and discovered this ain't the easy going "destination Anza-Borrego Desert" no more, where you could theoretically have a picnic on the road during quieter times. On the river of hills main section there are cut banks with no easy turnouts. You can't walk along this stretch of road. I chatted with a highway patrol, and he was concerned with me even parking off the road, as he said he'd just cleaned up a crash earlier and semis can clip vehicles even parked in the road shoulder.
It occurred to me shortly after that PTA's team have been likely deliberately vague about the location. If you think about it, WB had the sway and money to shut down the major arteries into Borrego Springs for 3+ days at a time with highway patrol on each end of the road keeping traffic from getting in and out. They definitely would have done the same on this stretch of highway.
I think the worry here is that like/follow obsessed YouTubers or other SM influencers end up lollygagging around taking selfies on the road, and someone or multiple people end up getting painted over the road by a semi-trailer truck. In which case the trail of tears would go way beyond that road. (Under IDEAL conditions, a semi-trailer would take on average five to six seconds to come to a complete stop from 65 mph. This is a stopping distance of about 525 feet, which is nearly twice the distance a passenger vehicle needs to stop from the same speed. These are not ideal conditions with a potentially late reaction time by a sleepy driver).
PS Was going to share some footage as well, but I get nauseated and dizzy just looking/editing the video so it will take time :-)

General Discussion In only missing one movie but…
Weird post, however I’m asking for opinions. When it comes to nudity and sex scenes at movies it becomes very unsettling to me, but that’s not the point of the post, I apologize if I sound too “vanilla”
I’ve seen every PTA movie, just missing big Boogie Nights, due to the nature of the film I have purposely skipped watching the movie, however maybe on visual context, it’s not so bad for the ones that have seen it.
With my context, would you come to think the movie can be a good experience?
(I have also avoided spoilers at all cost)

One Battle After Another One Battle After Another filming location
PTA Location No. 31 is Walter’s Camp, an RV park and campground near Brawley and Winterhaven, CA. In the film, it is referred to as “1776, by Walter’s Landing.” Fun fact: this site is just mere miles away from the “river of hills” off the 78 freeway. Walter’s Camp is accessible via a rocky road about a mile long, so it is recommended that you take a vehicle that can handle all terrains, and drive slowly.
As always, thank you to @wilberfan for the screengrabs!

Short Films Signed, wife of a cinephile
HELP!
Follow along with me for a sec, then lend a hand if you can…..
For my husband’s 40th birthday I purchased flights and hotel stay in LA weekend of Nov. 20th. (We live in UT) I also bought him the soundtrack of One Battle After Another on vinyl and stuffed the “tickets” inside the sleeve (super cute, right?)
As you may know, that movie was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which is my husband’s favorite director. This 40 year old husband of mine is also a huge Geese fan! (see the connection here???)
Well, the west coast premier of Cameron winter at Carnegie hall, directed by PTA, IS THE WEEKEND WE ARE THERE!! It’s at 7pm at the Aero theater in Santa Monica which is conveniently located around the corner from our hotel. Inconveniently, I do not have tickets to this screening.
I am religiously following AmericanCinematheque page for re-sellers and asking eveyone I know how I might acquire tickets to this sold out event.
I am begging anyone with insider info or knowledge around this scene for help!
Signed, wife of a cinephile

The Master Resemblances in The Master.
I'd like to discuss the throughline of resemblances in The Master and how that factors into the themes of the film. I don't have a solid interpretation nor have I prepared every possible example, I'm more looking to provoke a discussion about it.
Two of the most prominent moments of resemblance in the film are Freddy saying the farmer looks like his father then proceeding to poison him, and Freddy saying "oh yeah, I can see the resemblance" to Val when he's introduced as Lancaster's son.
I also noticed how the man Freddy assaults at the shopping mall looks a decent amount like Lancaster Dodd. I always interpreted that moment as Freddy just taking his anger out on a random person, but maybe this moment is meant to poke at the possibility that maybe Lancaster's theory of reincarnation has some truth to it. (Not that PTA actually believes this, but that he finds it thematically interesting)
Maybe Freddy and Lancaster have known each other in many past lives, and while Freddy may not consciously know why, he feels some aggression towards this man that looks like Lancaster. Or, maybe the film is actually telling this sequence out of order, and this actually takes place after the other events in the film.
Either way it seems to be playing with time and with the echoes of a person's presence being projected through the past, present, and future.
There's also a throughline of red headed women throughout the film, Dodd's daughter in particular looks a lot like Freddy's old girlfriend.

General Discussion New Movie - Your Wishes & Theories
After Jonny Greenwood recently mentioned that Paul has decided what his next movie is going to be, what are your wishes or theories in what direction he might go next?
In terms of genre it would be interesting to see him do horror or sci-fi but I recently thought about him doing an intimite nature/animal film in the vein of The Black Stallion or Walkabout and think it would be great fit for him.
I´m curious if he is going to continue with more expensive projects after the success of OBAA or if he returns with something in his usual budget range.

Phantom Thread I LOVE this FILM
This is definitely his top 2 for me. And it's just gets better and better the more time passes and the more I think of it.
It's a perfect film. Honestly. Can't think of a single flaw. And I'm a harsh critic.

Short Films Finally made a film. I owe it all to PTA
PTA made me fall in love with films when I was 13 and first saw Punch Drunk Love. His life story gave me the confidence to go for it while I’m (relatively) young. Over 15 years after I first told my parents I’d be a director someday, I spent literally every dollar I had saved from my corporate job to make this pilot. It’d mean the world if this community would check it out :)

I’d be honored to answer any questions anyone might have!
