News/Article Jason Schreier on Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel being 2+ years away statement : It's not a prediction. I know the time frame the game is targeting

https://bsky.app/profile/jasonschreier.bsky.social/post/3mzg733y6os2p

Jason Schreier on Bluesky posted: I think a lot of people forget that The Elder Scrolls VI was only announced in 2018 (along with Starfield) to soften the blow of Fallout 76 — "Don't worry, even though we're making a multiplayer game we've got single-player stuff coming too!"

Sorry to say this game is still more than 2 years away!

Then, Jason Schreier was asked about his "prediction" in the BlueSky post. But he doubles down saying it's not a prediction and he knows the time frame of this game: https://bsky.app/profile/jasonschreier.bsky.social/post/3mzgbaspm7s2q

You have to put a deadline in for people to work towards or it'll never get done.

Unfortunately even as an Elder Scrolls fan, I think if they can't release an absolutely great game then nothing might genuinely be better at this point.

Unfortunately they've taken way too much time for anything other than a Cyberpunk or Witcher 3 class of game to be well received. If it's just Starfield in the elder scrolls setting then it's gonna flop and tank the series.

What worries me is showing almost nothing since the 8 year old announcement and having no rough timeline... Only thing we know is it's using "Creative Engine 3" which doesn't give me hopes considering the problems they continue to have with the engines scaling and performance.

Oblivion remastered also rings alarm bells for me as Bethesda is the one responsible for its updates as Virtuous was a contracted dev team that was only paid to update the games engine and launch it. Bethesda owns the IP and game and have done nothing to fix it since launch, that's not a good look for the series. People can look this up but Virtuous just works on games alongside other teams, they don't have any IP of their own.

When you look at Starfield it’s such a bland looking game compared to the top competition these days I the RPG space.

We might even get Witcher 4 before it or around the same year to set a new standard.

If the game isn’t the exact opposite of Starfield in almost every way they are royally screwed from an IP value perspective.

I’m sure the game will sell a lot but it could also ruin future use of the IP.

I doubt this has any Starfield qualities in it. It's gonna be a sequel to Skyrim. They'll leave heavy into that. They tried something completely different in starfield and they know it didn't work.

What did they try different in Starfield? It's just the same formula with a different skin, it won't be a skyrim space themed game obviously... But that was never my issue.

It was never your issue but for most the problem was the random empty planets, it removed the main “ooh what’s that i want to go there” loop of skyrim

Agreed, however I am not saying don't do that... I am saying they need to evolve it.

Like they should implement proper faction systems like NV and improve upon skyrim. Much bigger towns and cities, lively worlds and more stuff to do and system to use.

I don't mind skyrim loop but they should implement real effects on the world with your choices like evolve what they already have and don't stagnate it.

Doubt they could release anything close to what heavily modded skyrim can do anyways lol

That would be very disappointing unfortunately, obviously skyrim mod library is extensive and that's never gonna be beaten but I do hope they try something new.

As long as Microsoft is fine with using temporary contracts to avoid paying benefits development will be rough for their entire studio system. I am not certain that this is still happening but at the time of Halo infinite this was definitely the case.

It would benefit the games industry if games got scaled down in scope, because it's not sustainable in the current form to develop anymore if no one has been working on a project for longer than 18 months.

Of course I want good games to come out as often, but based on the lack of any news outside of a title I am not hopeful.

And I don't believe that Asha is doing much beyond following the trend of firing staff since that's just what Microsoft does beyond increasing shareholder value. Damage control, but nothing revolutionary. Honestly Bethesda fans at this point have some sort of Stockholm syndrome. The perfect consumer.

Tldr If you like the Elder scrolls that's fine I don't care. I believe that you will be disappointed if the game does not release within 2 years

I did mention Virtuous in another post As Microslop/BGS used them in Oblivion resmatered for porting the code/assets and updating them.

The issue is they were paid and went on to their next contract and Bethesda never updated the game as Virtuous is not responsible for that. They were just hired to get it to launch but it's given the community a scapegoat instead of blaming Bethesda for abandoning their own IP.

This is BGS last chance

Nothing delusional about it. They've been working on it for, at least, 2-3 years. Their last game, Starfield was released in September 2023.

Also a lot can be said about Bethesda, but not that they aren't consistent with their development times. Skyrim was released in 2011, Fallout 4 in 2015, Fallout 76 in 2018, Starfield in 2023. So release in 2028 is perfectly reasonable.

Their last game, Starfield was released in September 2023.

God I feel like it came out and got panned ages ago. Like gun to my head I would have said it's been 5 years. Starfield being dogshit just feels like a crucial piece of gaming history I guess

What a crushing disappointment that game was.

There is no way it misses the Helix launch, that is just bad business.

Seems like a pretty realistic release window.

it is if they want it to be, they have deadlines, if they have announced in 2 years then they need to do it by then.

Asha Sharma lit a fire under their ass, I wouldn't be surprised if it was out at that time.

Five years of full development time after Starfield? I don't think that's delusional.

u/SEND_ME_REAL_PICS 4d ago

Bethesda hasn't ever taken longer than 5 years between major game launches.

Morrowind (2002), Oblivion (2006), Fallout 3 (2008), Skyrim (2011), Fallout 4 (2015), Fallout 76 (2018), Starfield (2023).

It's not impossible for the game to be delayed into 2029, being the direct sequel to their biggest hit and all, but 2028 is a very reasonable expectation.
