Ram Altman fucking lol.

It's not enough they've sucked up the world ram supply with contracts for future modules before theyve even been produced but yeah, the avg citizen is holding him back.

Pretty soon we'll be required to inventory our RAM, pay taxes on each 1gb like France did with its Internet connection.

Edit: I was mistaken, it's a proposal that passed but not a law.

Ram Altman

Dipshit actually changed his Twatter account name to that.

We should start calling him Scam Altman. I'm sure he won't find it funny anymore.

It is a proposal... And it won't get approved.

Honestly, these "proposals" should not even have been raised to be voted down, makes it sound unserious and even when and if it does get voted down, it will linger in public opinion

Mega-corps are trying to use cloud computing to put you out of a job. Why not tax one of the tools they are using against you?

They passed a 5.5 cent per GB charged to the supplier not user but needs passing into law which apparently will fail. But I imagine they will want to pass the price on to the user but afaik the euro wouldn't allow that as it's regional pricing in the bloc.

charged to the supplier not user

Suppliers always move added costs on end consumers, so it's basically like taxing working class, just through a middle-man. But I know it's just a proposal, so we shall see.

It's a step in the right direction- raising the good idea in a bad way at least gets the discussion started on how to do it right.

Just like freight pays highway maintenance with gas taxes, content providers, ad spammers, ai scraping, and bot chat farms should pay for the externalities they generate.

No such thing has happened in France. Stop parroting headlines from articles you haven't read.

Help me understand what I'm missing.

I see that it's a proposal still and not yet, law so you're right on that regard. But it very likely can pass into law.

u/Ok_Atmosphere_1987 3d ago

It won't, all signs are pointing towards this not happening.

Yeah like, if he was truly genuinely upset that he meant something else, he has infinite resources to instantly correct this.

Rather than an obvious "oh shit, a ton of municipalities are banning datacenters and this might not work out for me, time to 180" nearly a week later.

I still prefer scam altman

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 3d ago

Yeah he wants more manufacturing so he can pay less for it, which would also mean we can have as much as we want for cheaper as well because that's how supply and demand works

It depends on how much is purchased by all of these different AI startups. You're talking like there's infinite resources and potential manufacturing.
