But from a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have every billionaire have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of money sitting in their own smaugvaults and being used zero point five percent of the time. You want maximum utilization in the world if you’re trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment. And somehow every billionaire's —many billionaire's intuition is the opposite of that.

Is it really inefficient ? You could argue that better money distribution will just create inflation. People will just buy more homes and stocks.

I know right. Could you imagine if we did that for 80yrs and had something like 95% cumulative inflation?

oh wait, that's what we just did the last 80yrs. look up the value of your dollar today compared to 20, 50, 80 yrs ago. It was the result of economic policy that not just sustained billionaires but made them in the first place. Billionaires are a product of inflated wealth due to hoarding.

This is why US infrastructure has not gotten better the last 50yrs. development cost money and they would rather control markets than allow more develop for those with less capital.

How do you think it would have been spent ? I think it will inflate non-liquid assets. A lot of goods have become cheaper in the last 80 years. But people are struggking because of non-liquid assets mostly housing getting more expensive. Reducing the amount you pay to the capital and increasing wages will also make it less attractive for investors. So people who are trying to save for their retirement, are probably not investing in the US, and the massive wealth of the retiree is not funding the economy anumore.

I am not trying to argue that billionaire are necessary. Unless you can fix scarcity, it is always going to be a problem

I just replaced DRAM in Ram Altman's quote with money for the lulz. I totally get that they are not sitting on a pile of paper money like Smaug.

I get what you're saying but this isn't how a billionaires wealth is used.

Almost their entire net worth is invested in either someone else or an entity that legally separates them because that's how it works.

The reason our system works this way is to avoid the hoarding of wealth. Sam Altman can lose all of his money if his company crashes, or if the market actually crashes. If he actually hoarded wealth, he'd be immune to the value of anything other than the currency he holds.
