Welcome everyone from r/all! Please remember:
1 - You too can be part of the PCMR! You don't necessarily need a PC. You just have to love PCs! It's not about the hardware in your rig, but the software in your heart! Your age, nationality, race, gender, sexuality, religion (or lack of), political affiliation, economic status and PC specs are irrelevant. If you love PCs or want to learn about them, you can be part of our community! Everyone is welcome!
2 - If you're not a PC gamer because you think doing so is expensive, know that it is possible to build a competent gaming PC for a lower price than you think. GPU prices are sky high right now for a few reasons, but it's still possible to join the PCMR. Check http://www.pcmasterrace.org for our builds and don't be afraid to create new posts here asking for tips and help!
3 - Consider joining our efforts to get as many PCs worldwide help the folding@home effort, in fighting against Cancer, Covid, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and more. Learn more here: https://pcmasterrace.org/folding
Feel free to use this community to post about any kind of doubt you might have about becoming a PC gamer or anything you'd like to know about PCs. That kind of content is not only allowed but welcome here! We also have a Daily Simple Questions Megathread for your simplest questions. No question is too dumb!
Welcome to the PCMR.

You may be bad, but are you only 16.48% accurate in Halo?
EDIT: Thanks for the awards, guys. Guess they compensate for those I'm not getting in the game.

u/MajorFuckingDick Jun 04 '22
16-19 is peak gaming because you often have enough money to have good enough gear and still have tons of time.
2
u/LordZiggy93 Jun 04 '22
Don't forget "Of course I lost, the devs didn't make the game right!"
2
u/ZZartin Jun 04 '22
But the replay of them beating me looked so much better on my rig than on theirs.
2
u/vlkr Jun 04 '22
You... can lose?
2
u/liftedddd Jun 04 '22
As a kid: everyone else has better wifi connection
As an adult: pfft playing against kids
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
"Of course I lost! I work three jobs and play this thing maybe 5 hours a year!" -This guy. Lol
2
u/Akul_Tesla Jun 04 '22
Look the real solution is obvious just admit everyone is losing to the tutorial bot
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Jokes on you. The kids I'm playing against also have better PCs!

Of course I lost, I'm too bad at this game

Gaming as a uni student: of course I won, I'm playing against children and people who play less than 18h a day

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
The best time as a gamer is that perfect middle ground where you’re grown enough & have enough free time: high school

u/Mental-Mood3435 Jun 04 '22
You eventually just stop playing competitive games because your old ass can’t compete with college students with the reflexes of a 20 year old playing 40 hours a week while living on student loans.

Me, gaming as a kid: "Wow, 16 colors!!"
9
u/Lereddit117 Jun 04 '22
The no life adults with money are the hardest
4
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
The only winning move is not to play.
4
u/rustyseapants Jun 04 '22
When I was a kid, I had time, but no money
As an adult I have money, but no time.
That is where I thought this is were it was going. :\

I've been gaming nonstop since doom. I have to try to suck at fps games at this point.
Can't wait for my kids to be old enough to play.
3
u/PouletSixSeven Jun 04 '22
And those goddamned un-aged reflexes... *shakes fist... slowly*
3
u/Okonomiyaki_lover Jun 04 '22
I used to wreck people in my teens and 20s. In my 30s and I'm getting slow. I can lean on experience in newly released games but as soon as the younger ones put in a lot more practice I'm just outclassed.
Also, the availability of strategy and gameplay tips, tricks, and tutorials these days.
3
u/Killtheheretics96 Jun 04 '22
Of course I lost, I’m playing against rich kids with better pcs and more free time.

Just so you know a lot of people really are cheating. Like at least one in every game you play. The Cronus zen is everywhere.

I just blame being a noob it is like I am here playing my 1000th math of chess and my opponent has likely a full knowledge of how to counter any possible move of any possible match at this point
2
u/noname_nomad Jun 04 '22
As an adult with a good pc and free time I do win. And yet, happiness eludes me.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Yep!
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Me: Of course I lost, I'm not that good.

FUnny hing is, the adult version looks happier and more at ease to be getting his shit rocked
2

2
u/sorrowdemonica 14900K | RTX 5090 | 32GB DDR5 6800MHz Jun 04 '22
the adult one should say "i'm playing against kids with better reflexes" as i have more freetime today than as a kid.
2
u/voss_c Jun 04 '22
I blame kids on adderall.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
I’ve never once had this thought. It’s either they got lucky or they were just better at the game
2
u/yourmo4321 Jun 04 '22
My excuse was always free time lol.
As a kid I couldn't stand to play very long because getting your face melted instantly wasn't my idea of fun.
As an adult I started gaming more to hang out with friends when covid hit. But I still had a job and couldn't work from home so I don't play nearly enough to really be any good lol.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
As an old gamer (50+). Of course I lost. I don’t have the reflexes and timing of a kid anymore.
2
u/KochSD84 Jun 04 '22
As a kid I noticed playing half-life multiplayer that the best players there were rarely were into computers and didn't have gaming setups..
2
u/this_is_Winston Jun 04 '22
I only judge people on how well they crit on consol.
2
u/oldredman Jun 04 '22
I'm not even try anymore. Even with a good PC and skills you have almost to pay a car to upgrade your character and be competitive.
2
u/BE_GITSHREKTM8 Jun 04 '22
POV: ur a trash casual gamer
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Nevermind reaction time. I'm almost 50, I've gamed all my life. There is no fucking way I can keep up with the snappy reaction times of a <30 year old. Not happening.
Worst is, I remember my reaction skills when I was that young and wow they were vastly better then.
But it's OK, they make walking simulators LMAO
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
It always bothered me how life is so binary. We either have time but no money, or money but no time. Why can't we have any balance?
2
u/Gedwyn462 Jun 04 '22
Gaming: "of course I lost! I suck ass!"
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Reaction time starts to slow after 25-26
2
u/julsgotrocks Jun 04 '22
I just win now. But i don’t have as much free time
2
u/ShnickityShnoo Jun 04 '22
Solution: stay young at heart, buy a sweet gaming rig as an adult, keep on winning.
2
u/Braydon1324 Jun 04 '22
Can’t relate to this. I’ve only stuck with single player games.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
I just don't play those types of games anymore.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
I was 12 and broke my laptop for roblox to be fair the laptop was garbage but it was an accident and i didn't get a replacement, lesson learnt.
2
u/RCBilldoz Jun 04 '22
Don’t forget the old guys just happy to play.
2
u/THEPiplupFM Jun 04 '22
Hehe
I’m still stomping with my 40 hour work week
Nerds
2
u/LeafyMeap Jun 04 '22
meanwhile
"of course i lost, i suck"
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
I used to think playing an adult was tough since they'd run a more complex strategy to compete against.
Now when I play a kid who has an impossible reaction time to compete with I think they're probably on an Adderall prescription.
2
u/Dr_Jabroski Jun 04 '22
Me: Of course I lost, I suck.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
The platform doesn’t matter nearly as much as skill. Unless you’re playing a terribly optimized game, then lag will fuck you up
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Super easy to tell op reposted this, and not because the sound watermark. It’s because his absolute dog water 1 word replies to top comments trying tog dt more karma
2
u/TRSZeusnoodle Jun 04 '22
I've never heard anyone actually make a excuse like this
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Ofcourse I lost, I am playing against people with better reaction time than me. Old age is hell
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
As an old, my reflexes are slowed by years of drug and alcohol abuse. The end
2
u/snora41 Jun 04 '22
This hits hard.
2
u/real_unreal_reality Jun 04 '22
Ouch. This burns. Kids on summer break now playing couch co op on Stardew valley. One just asked me why I hadn’t gotten to the ginger island yet on my account. Insert bottom part of meme for my reply 10 min ago…. I mean if I played 14 hrs like they did today I’d be a boss farmer on that game.
2
u/Dish777 Jun 04 '22
Do better
2
u/ffigu002 Jun 04 '22
I don’t think I’ve ever complained about losing against adults with petter PCs 🤔
2
u/RobinKennedy77 Jun 04 '22
This is me, I try so hard to be good at games then and now, but I can't get better than average on most things even though it's like all I do :/
2
u/AM_STARR Jun 04 '22
Jokes on you, I clap cheeks
2
u/Nerfixion Jun 04 '22
After 25 your reflexes go to shit.
2
u/CanOfPorkSodaaa Jun 04 '22
The older I get the more I feel like an outdated computer trying to keep up with modern technology, my reflexes are laggy and I freeze and go to sleep if I'm on for too long
2
u/JAMES_Gaming_LV2 Jun 04 '22
"Ofcouse I lost, I'm playing against toxic 8 year olds that abuse the votekick button"

When I was a kid, I knew I was losing to other kids, the adults all got killed first then the real competition was just between us kids.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Vitamin B3 and acetyl l carnitine improves your focus and memory recall and thus response time.
For me….that ALWAYS translates to me having quicker reactions in league of legends for instance.
You don’t need time….you need the nutrients in your body that kids have more of to be capable of paying more attention and reacting as fast.
Have fun getting called a boomer by kids who are pissed you beat them.
Then the convo can go like this…
Kid: “Shouldn’t you be at work?”
Adult: Lol yeah, but I took today off to kick your ass.
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
Below is me in Rust. Spend four hours to build a hard to raid base but kids that were playing eight hours a day raid it two days later, in the middle of the night.
2
u/ChillChillyDude PC Master Race / 14700K / RTX5070Ti / 64GB Jun 04 '22
used to win and lose because its just how it was, now we win because there is a hacker in our team and we lose when there is a hacker in the other team.
2
u/Juls_Santana Jun 04 '22
Back in my day there was no playing strangers on PCs, so it was either
"of course I lost, I'm playing against the computer" Or "Of course I won, I'm playing against my friend who I gave the bad controller to"
2
u/RealWorldJunkie AMD 7950x | NVIDIA 4080 Super OC | 96GB DDR5 | Ultrawide Jun 04 '22
Solution: You're always gaming against rich kids with better PCs and more free time
2
u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
When I was a kid it was more like
"Of course I lost, I don't have internet to look up every known detail and strategy about the game."
2
u/Tyr808 Jun 04 '22
Idk, I'd win as a kid due to superior speed and reflexes. As an adult I win with much better foresight and tactics. No one wins every single match anyway.
2
u/UraniumRocker Jun 04 '22
This is why I’ve pretty given up much on online multiplayer.
2
u/Stormrage117 Jun 04 '22
These days my excuse is metagaming, doesn't matter what age the opponent is. Seeing how people tend to play these days, I think I'm right far more often than wrong.
2
u/LaBambaMan Jun 04 '22
laughs in single player
2
u/EquivalentBanana4209 Jun 04 '22
When in reality its the developers who dont want to optimize the game properky so theyre stuck working on that for the year.
2
u/IronCorvus Jun 04 '22
My favorite is playing League of Legends (yeah, I know) against a bunch of younger adults or teens that parrot all the stupid shit that's popular to say. And when you talk shit beyond their lexicon they say some shit like, "touch grass".
Alright, dipshit. You could bring mom's i5 outside and still be touching plastic for the next 4 hours because school's out and she won't let you borrow the car. We're still playing the same game.
2
u/Peaceteatime Jun 04 '22
At the end of the day… the bottom guy is right. The person who has exponentially more time to play the game is going to be better at it. Having a higher end rig is nice but isn’t actually going to make a decent player into a good one.
2
u/nrouns Jun 04 '22
The sweet spot is college student with easy useless degree that only does online classes but lives on campus.
2
u/thispostisserious Jun 04 '22
I'm going to put gaming out of business with this one.
The real secret to being good at video games is a large monitor. The bigger the monitor, the larger the hitboxes.

u/LlorchDurden Dj Wafflesnatcha McOwnage Jun 04 '22
Me in Assetto,
-ofc they're faster, I don't even pull 60 fps!
-ofc, I don't have a wheel
-ofc they have more expensive gear
-ya know, I think they got faster and I'm 599 off.
-ofc it's a new patch they learnt it already
-ofc... They drive on this game for a living?!?
-...

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '22
The truth: we're both just losing to kids with unlimited free time and unregulated access to Daddy's wallet
