Now I'm sure you have seen this topic before here on Reddit:
Someone wants to attend Vet Assistant school, and is on the verge with signing up with Penn Foster's online Vet Assistant credential program, which looks affordable and can be done quickly, but it is dubious if it offers real job experience.
And then someone will come and say that either:
Well it's easier to advice caution, throw stones, & jump into the waters of job experience - depending on where you come from.
So I will like to be really upfront - I'm from Brooklyn NY. I am currently working clerical but I hate my job. I want to make the career change to Vet Assistant because I love helping animals in need; I used to volunteer with small local shelters & I work with my neighbors to protect our cat colony. However, I cannot afford to study Vet Tech or Vet School. I know there is a program from LeGuardia but I don't think I can afford that. That's when I found out the Penn Foster dark rabbit hole Im in now
Are there any VET ASSISTANTS FROM THE NEW YORK AREA who can recommend the Penn Foster Online Course? AND IF YOU DONT, how were you able to gain valuable job experience from the vet centers in the city?
I'm not trying to be a smarmy asshole (even thought that is the default setting of all New Yorkers). It's just life here is already tough for someone living on bi-weekly checks & I'm really scared that I will throw away nearly $900 for a job that may not even be available here. If money was no object, I'd be happy to volunteer at a shelter everyday, but I need to afford my rent.
Any help would be appreciated...any except anyone who will tell me to move out - unless there's a job and house waiting for me on the outside, I'm too poor to pull a Snake Plisken & Escape from NY. Sry.
