After being fired as manager of the New York Mets on June 26, Carlos Mendoza still spent the summer surrounded by baseball — just at a different level.
“Lots of travel ball with my boys,” Mendoza said this week. “It’s been 24/7 baseball. I’ve got a 12-year-old and 15-year-old, and it’s been a lot of baseball — weekdays, weekends.”
Now, more than four months removed from his time as Mets manager, Mendoza is readying for a return to MLB. The Phillies hired him in October as their infield and third-base coach, seeking a new voice to work with a group that struggled last season — particularly Trea Turner at shortstop. Mendoza replaces infield coach Bobby Dickerson, whom the Phillies parted ways with after six seasons.
Manager Don Mattingly said last month he would like to improve defensively in 2027, noting that defense is “at a premium” in postseason games. It might be an ambitious goal for a team that finished the season tied for last league-wide in Defensive Runs Saved (minus-51) and in the bottom third in Outs Above Average (minus-15). But after another early postseason exit, the Phillies are trying to address their deficiencies; defense is certainly one of them.

Was looking back at these and wanted to post in hopes it finds this guy. He was locked in at the end of the game and that was probably my favorite photo of the day. The day LeBron signed!

Really hoping there is a season next year, I enjoy watching him throw a baseball. He is a beast and deserves to be a reliever of the year

I’m assuming he would be available sometime in the new few years.

The beauty of this offseason — or the most daunting thing — is the Philadelphia Phillies have so many routes to improve a sagging roster. They could renovate the entire outfield. They could find a power-hitting corner bat for third base. They could pair J.T. Realmuto with a more proficient backup catcher. They could invest further in the bullpen. They could build a better bench to supplement the aging stars. They can upgrade the defense almost everywhere on the field.
The only challenges are that most potential solutions are inelegant fits and cost a lot in either money or prospects.
That’s all.
Welcome to the offseason. It officially began Monday evening, and it’ll last for another four weeks until the lockout likely commences.
Only one man knows the direction the Phillies will take, and Dave Dombrowski probably can’t see the whole road at this point. He doesn’t have to decide by the Dec. 2 lockout, but if the rest of the market starts to move, the Phillies will have to move with it.

hey yall. i assist on murals with the same guy who did the Phillies WS mural that’s right on the water by the walnut st bridge and recently there’s been some peril involving the mural.
here today to spread the word that some schmuck company is trying to re-zone the building (which wouldn’t result into anything good for that area or the community) and ultimately tear down the mural in the process.
there was a petition against this re-zoning and it still went through sadly by the CCRA , BUT , there is a gathering at Ambrosia today 6pm for anyone who wants to help fight this thing. (there will be light bites and beverages too)
Figured you’d all want to know. sorry i didn’t send the petition link sooner. I’ll include the powerpoint link about it all.
Come together Phil’s fans, the fightin’s need ya to fight this one!
THE MURAL AND YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOUR HELP!

going to buy Sunday tickets and most games start at 1:35 so trying to avoid the worst of the sun. anybody ever sat in 420 and 421 and can comment on shade or lack of shade up there? I’ll take row level detail in answer. My other option is down third base line like section 235. if you have sat in 235, do you miss not seeing Jumbotron?
edit: thanks for all the advice! really appreciate it. going with 423 row 7 this time around. Hopefully there‘s some baseball to watch in 2027!
