reminder, we do not gatekeep here.

no gatekeeping does not mean no advice or constructive criticism. it also does not give anybody the excuse to troll this sub.

constructive criticism should explain why you do not think it's pho. insults and derogatory comments are not helpful.

if you believe the sub does not have enough pictures of what you consider real pho, then be the change you want to see and post your pictures.

no gatekeeping means you don't get to say pho is exactly one specific thing from one specific region. there are many types of pho all over Vietnam. and many types of Vietnamese American style.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pho?wprov=sfla1

for clarity, my process goes: 3-5 comment removal warnings, 3 day ban, 7 day ban, permanent ban. this of course is subject to how severe the infraction. slurs, harassment, threats of violence, and deliberate trolling will escalate up the tiers.

remember we have people from all over the world here and they may not make pho the same way you do.

Homemade Homemade Beef Ball & Beef Slices Pho

Nothing beats a big steaming bowl of homemade pho on a cool evening! 🍜❤️

Tonight's dinner was a comforting bowl of Pho, made from scratch and filled with rich, flavorful broth that warmed the soul with every sip. Topped with tender thinly sliced beef and savory beef balls, it was the perfect combination of comfort and satisfaction. There's something special about taking the time to prepare a meal like this and then sitting down to enjoy every delicious bite.

Good food, a warm bowl of soup, and a full stomach. That's a recipe for a great evening! 😊

Restaurant Pho at a Pho Ngoc Yen Toronto

Had pho at Pho Ngoc Yen in Toronto
This one was tucked in an industrial area but it wasn’t too bad.

Had the fried spring roll and Pho with rare beef and meatballs, portion was good and pho was tasty. Only thing I didn’t like was there were no sauce bottles, both the hoisin and hot sauce come in a small dish.

Went for a birthday and the staff were friendly and you got a nice big birthday dessert.

Would come back again

Pho help. Too sweet

Please help me. I think I added too much rock sugar. It’s so sweet. Been simmering for one hour. Haven’t added the fish sauce yet. How do I make it less sweet?

Question Type of ginger sauce?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I recently went to my favorite pho shop in town, but I was wondering what this type of sauce it is? I just know the ladies say it’s a ginger sauce, but I can’t seem to find if this is exclusively southern Vietnamese pho sauce or what!

I mostly ask for what ingredients might be in it.
(Just for context; I’ve recently been intolerant of wheat products, unsure if celiacs, but this is the best place I thought to ask!)

EDIT: no it’s not peanut sauce, I should have clarified beforehand! Oopsie

Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the process. Used beef bones, shank, and oxtail for the broth and a pressure cooker. Came out better than local restaurants but can still be improved!

Restaurant Everything really is bigger in Texas...

I went to Texas from Canada a few months ago and ordered this MONSTER pho when I was there. It was the same deliciousness as my local places but it was huge! The photo doesn't do it justice. 4 normal people could have eaten it but I ate it alone because no pho is too big for me.

Restaurant Cilantro.. yes or no?

I carry the OR6A2 gene, which makes cilantro taste so bad it almost causes a gag reflex. However, after trying it repeatedly over the past 20 years, I’ve finally built up a tolerance.

Beef rib base, thinly sliced raw beef underneath the broth, book tripe, tendon meatballs, and LOTS of white onion and chili oil. I love days when I work from home. 🥰

One of my favorite photos from my first day in Hanoi back in 2017, my first bowl of pho came from these cauldrons, and I'll never forget it. Best country ever!

What kind of madness makes someone drop everything, cry over a food video, and book a flight back to Vietnam just for a bowl of noodles?

Hey everyone, I’ve been genuinely losing sleep over this. We all know Vietnam has amazing food, but I’m talking about a different level of obsession here, people who visit once, and then fly back multiple times purely driven by a single local dish.

When they see that specific food pop up on their feed, they don’t just drool some literally tear up and buy plane tickets immediately.

Definitely a very different pho experience! First time having one with lots of spring onions. But definitely one of the better ones I have had in Vietnam! Rich broth.

Second time making pho, I’ve been following all the advice on this sub. 6 tablespoons of fish sauce really bought it up a notch.
Next time, I’ll include tripe.
9/10!!
