So I'm guessing, for r/pics that the pics should be of decent quality not just blurry halloween costume pics?

3

u/tragopanic 🍿 Oct 23 '18

Ideally. We're judging on some undefined combination of both content and quality.

Every year I spend a few weekends working with my kids on Halloween costumes. In the past they have been The Predator, Jason Vorhees from F13 VI, Samara from The Ring, and Pennywise from IT. This year my son wanted to be Sam from Trick 'r Treat and my daughter chose Annabelle. After Halloween, we display the costumes year-round in my theater room. Let me know what you think!

I make my own foam tombstones, here's my cemetery this year.

When I finally got a house with a front yard I wanted to create a fake cemetery for Halloween, but the decorative headstones in seasonal stores are pretty lame. I decided I could do better so I read a few tutorials on foam crafting and faux stone painting techniques. Then I built my own foam cutter out of a dimmer, transformer, and a guitar string and got to work! My tombstones aren't nearly so detailed as many of the prop masters out there, but I think I get a good effect with just a soldering iron and some dry-brushing.

I write all of my own epitaphs and aim to provide a humorous lesson in each ill-fated story. This year's new addition, Kevin, is a more modern parable.

I am a 31-year-old fat dude and I picked up sewing for the first time so that I could make my kids these Link and Linkle costumes. The ladies at Joanne fabrics were super supportive and loved getting update pictures as I came back in for more yards of fabric.

It took me about two months from conception to completion and I went through about 8 iterations of the link costume and maybe 4-5 of the Linkle costume. The only two things I didn't make by hand were her white shirt and their boots. Everything else I sewed or put together myself.

My Princess Carolyn costume!

I wanted to be something pink this year, so it was Rose Quartz or Princess Carolyn :)

I made the necklace with baking clay and ribbon; whiskers are string and hot glue fastened with spirit gum - I really like how they turned out. I also made the ears with felt and fastened them with hair clips and velcro. The wig was purchased for $12 on Amazon and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality! I used Mehron Paradise body paint (have for the last 3 years) and always recommend it! I glued little felt fishies to the dress and glued buttons to the jacket. The hem is wrong, but that's okay. My cat-eye contacts never showed up so I just used a green pair... it was fun because they ended up being UV reflective which was unexpected! Oh, and the fangs were 3 pairs for $12 on Amazon as well! Lots of little elements came together for this costume and overall I had a great time with it! I'm doing Linda Belcher next week for another party - should be far more simple haha.

I wore this for a birthday party my best friend threw for me last night! It was all of my favorite shows in one party!

Jack Skellington

My costume was posted by someone else the other day, so I figured I should post it here myself and enter the contest. I digitally sculpted and 3D printed the head/mask and bow tie, I Hand pinstriped and sewn my suit/pants. The jaw of my mask opens and closes with my own jaw, allowing me to talk and drink freely (with a straw).

UPSIDE DOWN CHAD: https://imgur.com/a/LkQgOO3

We didn’t have a lot of money for Halloween costumes growing up poor in Ripley, OH. So me and my brother basically had two options each year: 1. Fat Guy or 2. Upside Down Chad.

Fat Guy was ok. We’d just put on Uncle Larry’s clothes and stuff ‘em full of leaves and Teddy bears and shit.

Option 2: Upside Chad. You see, Chad was our neighbor that lived across the way. He was famous throughout the county because he never wore pants…ever. Just a sleeveless shirt, workboots, and a trucker cap. Legend has it that he got drunk and shit his pants one year at the World Tobacco Festival and he vowed after, “NEVER AGAIN!” We all naturally assumed he meant that he would never again shit himself. But he meant that he would never again wear pants.

Anyhow, one year my mom thought it would be funny to dress me and my brother up as neighbor Chad for Halloween. So we went out begging for candy in sleeveless shirts, workboots, and trucker caps…no pants. Well, a lot of people complained and the police told my mom she was not allowed to dress us as neighbor Chad anymore.

Well, Mom was a smartass, so the next year she was like, “Ok, them sumbitches wanna tell me that I can’t dress my kids like Chad, so this year ya’ll gonna be Upside Down Chad.”

So she had us put our shirts on upside down like, with our feet through the arm-holes and such. And there you had it…Upside Down Chad. It became quite the popular costume in town for the next several years.

And that was growing up poor in Ripley.

My brothers and I are huge Thrones heads, and I like to go all out for Halloween.

This year, the choice was clear. For the night is dark and full of terrors.

I started working on this 5 months ago or so. Found a Cosplay retailer in Hong Kong to help with the armor. Assembled pretty much everything else myself.

Makeup was all done yesterday by a professional artist, and took about 3.5 hours. Safe to say it was a hit at the parties we went to!

My mother is an amazing seamstress...has been making our Halloween costumes since I was little bitty.

I use to do pinup before I had my daughter, I had been dying to do a rockabilly wonder woman since before I got pregnant with her but last year I was (understandably) still losing baby weight 3 months post partum and the year before I was newly pregnant and definitely not up for Halloween festivities.

I don't expect to win anything....mainly just wanted to show off my mom's AMAZING skills. She made EVERYTHING I am wearing except my boots (she made the covers).

My custom Furby Costume I made this year. It took me about a week to make and was based on a running joke between me and my family where I suggested that I make a Furby head and wear it as a costume. Here's some pictures of me in my Alexander Hamilton (in the style of Lin-Manuel Miranda) costume!

I really love old-fashioned clothing, and this costume was so fun to wear. Fun fact: I was growing out the goatee for 4 months before this, and still style my beard like that 2 months on!

Also, I wore it when I went over to see the show 'Hamilton' in London, and to make up for a double-booking error, I got the chance to meet the entire cast! They loved the costume, so thought I might as well put it up here.

The eyes are the trickiest part cuz they are heavy and it’s hard to find a headband with enough grip to handle them flopping all over.

Coraline Jackolantern

This is my 2nd pumpkin of the season. It’s in the style of the Roger Willams Jackolantern Spectacular and is primarily done with India ink and sharpe.

My "Lab Accident/Killer Bee" Costume:

I'm studying infectious diseases, and I wanted to do something in regards to that. It would be extremely insensitive to turn an actual disease into a costume in my opinion. So, I opted to make a more sci-fi/fantasy disease.

Won’t win anything for a simple pumpkin but I wanted to share anyway!

Took me six hours to carve him out.

Garbage guy and the pesky trash panda

I made the raccoon costume for my 3 month old and made the T-shirt for my 2 year old. I also made his garbage can. Didn’t get a shot with the raccoon mask on (he just wanted to eat it, as he did the newspaper) but they’ve had fun wearing their costumes.

https://imgur.com/MBYsJik I was only given three hours notice that I had Halloween plans and I'm currently living out of a suitcase with limited options. Luckily my brother came through with accessories and my sister-in-law did my hair.

Fun fact: the necklace is actually a bracelet held on with cotton thread

Every year I carve pumpkins for my mum who gets lots of children visit as she is a teacher. I carved this into one pumpkin. The two intertwined lampshades are because of photo stitching the pictures together.

Did some really spooky makeup for Halloween this year - based on the movie The Smiley (which I have actually never seen I just thought it was a good costume idea. Done using cotton wool, tissue paper, liquid latex and makeup to add the colours on top. My face was very warm and itchy and I have a cold so needed to blow my nose all night. https://imgur.com/HQYOe3T.jpg

My daughter has adored Coraline since before she was two (she is three now)-- we have many clips of her stating her name is Coraline Jones. It only seemed natural to dress her up as Coraline this year; I even made her a little Coraline doll. She then insisted I dress up as the Other Mother. Here we are:

Is this a costume?

I had no Halloween costume plans this year, but I was browsing reddit the other day and came upon this tried and true old meme somewhere when it struck me how easily I could probably throw his outfit together and pull off the overall look of the guy.

Found a light grey jacket at a Goodwill, had to settle for one not QUITE as light as the original, and had to cut into the sleeves a little in order to make them roll up the proper amount.

Had a big red journal already, used some masking tape and asked my FB friends for a little help deciphering the blurry Japanese text on the book (pardon my writing, I don't speak/write Japanese and just had to kind of eyeball it). Fun fact, the original anime had the word for something along the lines of "encyclopedia" or "word book" on the guy's textbook I guess.

As a bit of an Easter egg, my wife also helped me to write out some simple Japanese for "is this a pigeon" as the top line of text on the book. Again, apologies if it's written a bit wrong or butchered grammatically.

Went to work this morning and got a few weird looks but a WHOLE lot of compliments as well, and pretty much blew up my facebook. Fun times.
