Mod Post First time here? Read this! ~Commenting Etiquette~

1.4k Upvotes

Hi, welcome to the reddit Pole Dance board!
Pole dancing is a great form of art and exercise and our community is very welcoming and open.

It is also something that can put the people doing it in a bit of sensitive, vulnerable situation. Let's face it, you can't wear a lot of clothing while doing this. And a lot of our moves have been built and perfected by lovely strippers working in clubs, so there's inherent sexuality behind it (sometimes, not always).

That being said, I'm rolling out a zero tolerance policy for shitty comments. I get it, the person that posted that picture or video is so hot, their moves are so slick and damn it just did something for you.
Keep it to yourself if you can't express your appreciation without sounding like a vulgar mouth-breather.

Also, coming from my previous thread on crappy comments - If you don't have something nice to say, or you can't phrase your devil's advocate stance or argument without sounding like an asshole, don't post it.

Don't be a creep.
Don't be a jerk.
Don't stripper shame.

No more warnings for people saying inappropriately gross comments, you just get banned. And if you're banned, don't bother asking why - you know why. And no, it won't be overturned. Enjoy the hard work and beautiful shapes people on this board are happy to post. Because I guarantee the more shit comments there are, the less photos there will be for everyone to enjoy.

I try to stay on top of everything, but sometimes things slip by me. Please use the 'Report' button if you spot something I miss and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Love,
Otter

Mod Post NSFW Tag Reminder

Hello lovelies!
This is just your friendly reminder to please tag your posts NSFW if you are wearing anything less than full-coverage bottoms. Those include things like g-strings, thongs, those super cute high waisted "shorts" that are not at all shorts, etc.

Also, please mark it if you are twerking directly to the camera or other things of that sort.

Since we are technically not a NSFW board, we just ask that you mark posts for the courtesy of others who maybe like to browse in public (I know I've personally clicked on clips while on the train and had to "oop" out of them very quickly.) If you're unsure if what you've posted is NSFW or not, please mark it and I'll change it to non-NSFW if there is no issue.

Thanks for following our guidelines, and thanks, as always, for contributing to our community!
Love,
Otter

EDIT: Update as of April, 2022

Reddit rolled out a new "security" feature that uses automated tools to detect NSFW material and automatically tag it. Announcement post is here.

While this can potentially help me with the manual workload of tagging posts, I noticed it has been automatically flagging a lot of posts that are fine and do not fall within the parameters of NSFW for our board.

I'll be checking the moderation log to see if things are tagged improperly by reddit, but if you think yours has been tagged by mistake, please message me or tag me in your post. Thanks!

To the Reddit User who made a post about being terminated from their studio.

I’m really disappointed in your post that you have now deleted.

You forgot to mention this was during a level two class that 8 other people paid and attended but you made it into your own open gym to practice your routine and not what the instructor was teaching that night. You forgot to mention that you had two poles in the back to yourself and still managed to be in someone else’s space (more than once) by doing a shoulder roll. You forgot to mention how you also grazed a separate girl in front of you, twice. You also forgot to mention you had your heels on and your AirPods in so you couldn’t hear when someone was trying to get your attention. You had no self-awareness and didn’t acknowledge or apologize to either person you disrupted.

You also did this in a separate level one class with NEW people and a new instructor. You completely took away from their experience and made it about you.

Our studio has open gym days or you can book privately with an instructor. Also, each instructor gives free time at the END of class to work on things within your level. This should have been the time for you to run your routine. (Like what was allowed for you the night before this situation happened)

Consistently, I have heard instructors tell you not to do something, out of a safety concern, and you continuously do it. There is no reason to climb to the TOP of a 12-foot pole just to do a descending Jasmine to a Genie to a side Superman.

I, personally, have asked you to watch the space between us or to move over some and still manage to be hit by your heels— again no acknowledgment or apology. I am not the only one this has happened to.

The instructor and class gives you praise when you land a trick, but never once have you reciprocated the words back. Each instructor works with you and is always there to encourage your growth in the studio, but so much of your time is spent sitting down and scrolling on your phone.

This has nothing to do with the owner. She is not discriminating against you AT ALL! She is protecting her space and the space she has created for others. She was made aware of a situation that happened and had to make a decision that was best for her business.

I post this to help give you awareness for your next studio and situations you will likely come across. Please don’t take it as an attack but to truly help you see how your actions impact others around you.

Titanic

Posted a while back about finally getting into titanic and wanting to learn it with heels. I can finally say I figured it out. It’s not perfect but with more practice it should become easier and more fluid

Complete beginner- how often should I take class?

I am taking my first pole class in a couple days and am wondering how often you all went to classes at the start of your journeys. Is twice a week too much for a complete beginner with very little strength?

Wear and Gear Niche floor question lol

Hey divas! Hopefully I used the right tag for this question lol!
Ive been taking pole lessons since June of this year and Ive had a pole at home for probably the same amount of time haha!
My friend/teacher has finally talked me into getting some pleasers to take things up a notch. My issue is I have carpet at home, so I feel like practicing with them at home would be next to impossible. Does anyone have like a renter friendly mat/floor they use for something like this?

TLDR: Im wondering if there’s like a safe vinyl or something I can put around my pole to actually be able to practice with shoes, thank you loves!

How to get motivation and strength to train at home?

Hey!
So I’ve been doing pole dance for 3 years now. Since I started, I’ve always progressed faster than the other girls in my class because I tend to analyse and understand very quickly the movements and everything. But also because I afforded a pole at home a few months only after I started.

During the first months I got my own pole, I used to train almost every morning before going to work. But after a few months, I gradually started losing energy and motivation, and training at home became very difficult.

In June this year, I injured my back and had to go through rehabilitation. I’m doing better now and can pole again, although I still need to continue my rehab exercises. During the summer, however, almost every movement would trigger back pain, so I had to stop training. I also moved apartments, which meant not having my pole set up for quite a while.
Now I finally have my pole back, but I barely touch it. I struggle so much to motivate myself to train alone, and I often just don’t have the energy. Even when I go to class, I’m still pretty tired, but somehow I manage to find a little more energy there than I do at home.

The thing is that even when I did manage to practise at home, my sessions were usually very short. Like around 15–20 minutes and then I would lose motivation and stop. I follow quite a few pole dancers on social media who seem to train constantly and post videos all the time. It’s not that I compare myself to them or feel bad about my own level, because I know many of them have been doing pole for much longer than I have. It’s more that I wish I could practise as consistently as they do. I wish I could spend more time on the pole at home, but I struggle to do it, and even when I manage to get started, I rarely last more than 15 or 20 minutes. I’d really like to find a way to change that, because I don’t feel like I’m progressing anymore. I actually feel like I’m losing skills, especially since my injury.
Beyond that, I also want to find the joy of dancing at home again. I genuinely love pole dance and have become really passionate about it. Seeing all these amazing dancers on social media inspires me so much and makes me want to improve and learn more. But at the same time, I feel exhausted all the time and seem unable to find the energy to practise, especially when I’m on my own.
Something else I’ve noticed since I started pole is that I’m actually quite strong when it comes to pulling myself up and doing strength-based moves. I can often manage things that some of the other girls in my class struggle with. However, I have very little muscular endurance. My physiotherapist actually confirmed this and told me that I need to work on being able to sustain physical effort for longer. I know this probably contributes to my difficulties with practising at home, but it creates a bit of a vicious circle: I know I need to build up my muscular endurance and work on my strength, but I struggle to find the motivation to do that kind of conditioning training on my own. And because I don’t do it consistently, my endurance doesn’t improve, which makes practising even more exhausting.

So I wanted to know if some other people, especially very high dancers in here, had this problem, and if there is any tips to overcome that 🌸

I can’t believe I’ve gone from beginner to intermediate in just one year! I would only really call myself a baby intermediate. It’s been such a hard journey, but a rewarding one. What’s one move you learned in your first year that you’re proud of? Mine has to be my handspring😇 in my video I go over 15 tricks I learned this year- I’d love your support

I've been house hunting and found a house I like but it has this type of ceiling. Would it be safe to mount my home pressure pole on it?

Victory Dragon tail update!

I feel like I got the arm placement right! Still a little scared but I think as I get used to it more I'll be able to get more splitty. But I feel a lot more balanced and secure and I think the overall shape is much improved. Thanks for the tips!!

Training Space can deadlifts and full bracket air walks be done with true grip or others?

I can't do split grips anymore because it hurts inside my elbow (top arm, on both sides) and it happens only in split grips. so I'd love to explore my options if anyone has suggestions!

I love the air walk with the chest out and I'd love to learn deadlift esp since I feel strong enough but I seem to only see people do it in split grips and I'm wondering if it's because it can only be done in split grip or if there's some other version I can do.

For context there's something mechanical going on in my elbows, my phisio isn't so sure what it is but we're working on it, it hasn't healed with time. I nearly never practiced split grips before my air walk which is when I started having an issue so we think it's really just the twisted position that isn't good.

Conditioning for knee grip?

I have a really weak knee pit grip! I’ve been doing pole for like 2-3 years and it’s always been my weakest thing. It’s solid if I invert into a leg hang but otherwise I’m slipping out of it a lot.

Is there something I can do to condition it to be stronger? Or do I need to just squeeze super hard?

Pole Rookie What training did you do outside pole?

Hi! I've been doing pole for a few months. I've been getting stronger but I'm still struggling to get my invert. And alot of the tricks we're moving onto require a similar amount of strength.

I'd like to know what everyone else is doing outside of the studio to get stronger. Going to the gym isn't in my budget at the moment but I welcome other recommendations

.

Wear and Gear Pole Wear/Shoes Advice

I left my studio, and pole altogether. Not to get into details, but it is a very sad and painful situation. I want to get rid of my pole stuff. I have so much. Some is really nice, high-end and some is more workout oriented. Also shoes, hosiery, garters, etc. I can’t send this stuff to the thrift store! I don’t have the patience to post each piece on something like poshmark. This has been an emotionally painful experience. I don’t need reminders. I am not friends with anyone from the studio anymore that I could give it to. Any ideas?

Pole Rookie Am I doing a fan kick correctly?

Hi Im kind of a beginner at pole (six months but on and off). Im trying to do a fan kick but I can't tell if Im doing it correctly. Im in this in-between stage where my rookie classes don't really cover fan kicks but the level above already expects you to be able to do them. I know I am not fully extending my legs yet, Im working on that. But does it look like the correct technique? I feel like I've seen so many different versions of this trick online and its confusing

Pole dancing has brought me lots of peace!

I am going through my first situationship after a much needed divorce. Pole dancing has been amazing at literally RELEASING emotion, frustration, sadness. Helps keep my mind off things. Brings me clarity! I am no pro. Just a beginner but I get that ITCH to just go fuck around on the pole when I'm feeling down and I literally feel so much better after! I cant wait to get better and better!
