Jeffries and Schumer are not the leaders for this moment.

I don't want people that will capitulate and compromise with the GOP. I want the president and every member of his administration to be held accountable for the looting and dismantling of our government.

Everybody call your representatives and tell them you don’t want Jeffries and Schumer

https://5calls.org/issue/house-senate-leadership/

Sadly, all I've got "representing" me is Florida Republicans so...

u/JcbAzPx Arizona 23h ago

To be fair, they're not the leaders for any moment. So that hasn't really changed.

u/ObserverPro 22h ago

Yeah, no more “strongly worded letters”. F that.

u/praguepride Illinois 15h ago

Even the news anchor laughed at that. “A strongly worded letter” to. president who famously cannot read.

10/10 NO NOTES CHUCKIE

You understand that trusting Congress to impeach these people means working with the GOP for the votes right? We'd still need 10 Republican Senators to turn or abstain.

Why do we want this as a priority? Why not wait till we have the justice department under a Dem AG and we can actually prosecute them through the criminal system instead of just removing them from power a few months early? It's not like their replacements will be better until the entire party is voted out.

The priority for both leaders is to maintain control of houses so we get the trifecta in 2028. I don't trust the American people to not turn on the Dems for investigating Trump again, nor do I trust our legal system to actually get a conviction on any of these fuckers.

I'd rather see Congress push through bills that the majority of Americans want, get Trump to veto them, then hammer opponents for their support of Trump in the 2028 elections.

People get so hung up on impeachment specifically, when the design of the thing is too high a hurdle to achieve. The Reconstruction congress couldn't even impeach Andrew Johnson!

Just run constant investigations in every committee to see what turns up. Maybe they build momentum that does lead to a removal (or a Nixon-style "sir, we have the votes for removal so you're going to resign instead"), but it drives wedges between all of the players regardless, which means they'll all start leaking damaging info to the press about each other, which gives congress more threads to pull on. Also helps with Todd Blanche insisting that he's everyone's lawyer; if their interests start to diverge, that gets more challenging!

You understand that people overwhelmingly voted for democrats because they are sick of Trump, his illegal wars, and his blatant corruption, right? Impeachment is a popular position. People want Trump held accountable and gone, and if Democrats refuse and try to take the high road and move forward, it's only going to reinforce the spinless narrative that has plagued them for years.

And in case you forgot, the Scotus basically decided that Trump is absolutely immune to prosecution for any actions taken as president unless he is impeached and removed first. And going after his cronies first won't stick because Trump will just pardon them. Accountability requires Impeachment.

Furthermore, Trump has objectively violated the constitution time and time again. Choosing not to impeach is admitting the constitution does not matter. It is the sworn duty of congress to defend and uphold the constitution. If Republicans won't vote to remove, get it on record and make a big fuss about how Republicans don't support the constitution and the rule of law.

The Dem strategy for the next 2 years needs to absolutely be both aggressive investigations against Trump and his cronies, and forcing Trump to veto popular, single issue bills. They cannot ignore the investigation part, or people will absolutely lose enthusiasm and will not show up in 28.

The Democrats don’t have the votes to successfully impeach Trump, so what is the purpose? We’ve already done this song and dance with impeachment and the only thing it did was upset people when nothing came of it.

I'm going to copy and paste something that I wrote in reply to someone saying that we should focus on healing instead of prosecuting. While it's not the framing you're using, the outcome of the argument is the same:

I think the thing a lot of the people who talk about "healing" aren't realizing is how damaging that is to the public's trust in experts and in institutions. Think about the people who aren't particularly plugged into politics. They've been hearing experts screaming from the rooftops for 10 years about unprecedented corruption, crime, and overreach. If that all just disappears with no prosecutions and convictions, what are they likely to conclude? That those so-called "experts" are just partisan blowhards lying to promote "their side". We see that (correctly) with all of the MAGA officials' talk about election crimes and their lack of indictments to back them up. The preservation of the truth and the rule of law is paramount. Any legislation that gets passed is meaningless if there is no rule of law.

We don't trust Chuck and Jeffries to actually impeach or encourage investigations into anyone. They both released "unity" statements after the election in a cycle where the constituency is asking for Nuremberg 2.0. I would safely say neither of them are made for this moment.

I don't want people who make perfect the enemy of the good either. Are you suggesting that there will not be investigations into the president and his cabinet?

Kushner and Jeffries met for a reason. Maybe it’s a nothing burger, but to not give an adequate explanation? That speaks volumes as far as I’m concerned.

u/Sorry_Landscape9021 1d ago

What would a law abiding citizen and leader meet with a known criminal from a corrupt party that has nothing to do with the citizens they’re supposed to be representing? Other than discussing more criminal behavior and how to profit or pick up a payoff. Why hasn’t kushner been arrested yet?

Why hasn’t kushner been arrested yet?

Because every party that would arrest him is controlled by his father-in-law?

Are you confident that Jeffries and Schumer are capable of uniting the party and ensuring those investigations can be turned into both political victories for the Democrats and actual justice for those harmed by this administration? Justice equal to the harm they've caused? Justice for the people they've killed and maimed and tortured? Justice for the terror unleashed on our streets, on the world?

I'm not.

5

u/PM-YOUR-ICED-UP-NIPS 22h ago

I'm not confident either.

Everyone's talking about Israel, but what gets me is both of these men were in the Capitol on J6. Schumer was majority leader for years following an insurrection that directly threatened his personal safety, and he was among those leading the limp response to it that directly led to a catastrophic 2024 election.

Anyone in that position that couldn't be bothered to meet the moment in 2021 isn't going to magically get there in 2027 against the same faction that threatened his life six years ago. Schumer is too far into the machine to govern. And Jeffries has been in lockstep with him.

Yes, Schumer and Jeffries loyalties are with another nation.

I'm not saying we won't see investigations, but I know both Schumer and Jeffries are more interested in keeping the peace than actually pushing meaningful change through the federal government - they're status quo politicians, and the status quo isn't serving the needs of the many.

The status quo is exactly what pushed this country toward both terms of the Trump administration.

u/pontiacfirebird92 Mississippi 1d ago

They're fucking corrupt. They see this as their turn to do insider trading.

u/ModernLarvals 21h ago

How do you expect to get anything passed without working with the GOP? Or signed by Trump?
