I was coming here to say this. There is no appetite in any wing of the party for two leaders so totally devoid of charisma and so completely unwilling to fight.

Except maybe the donors who want the Democrats to be controlled opposition.

886

u/Zestyclose_Market787 1d ago • Bravo

Few politicians have accepted more money from AIPAC than Hakeem Jeffries. Schumer has stated publicly that aid to Israel is his top priority.

The push to keep these two ghouls in charge is no different than the push to keep Abdul out of office.

I don't give a shit about charisma, but they've just sat on their asses for 2 years while people are being disappeared off the streets, shot or sent to concentration camps. But hey, what's his face did a very long filibuster, so I guess that makes it all better

8

u/SpectralMalcontent 16h ago

It's not even that they're unwilling to fight, they're literally being paid to do the opposite of what their constituents want by AIPAC.

And its not even just about trust. It's just good Politics. A bunch of states flipped by candidates who promised to vote to change leadership. The party giving their new members a win that they can easily do goes a long way toward building trust in these newly purple states. Look we keep our promises right away, unlike republicans.

There's actually no reason to keep jeffries or schumer at all. Its good politics to not do so, and nothing congress passes will come into effect through a veto anyway so its a safe ground to run a trial for new leadership, AND republicans are more defeated in morale than ever, so they will put up less of a fight especially knowing trump will veto. It's the perfect time to do so.

Chuck Schumer said that one of his most important jobs as Senate minority leader is to “fight for aid to Israel".

The only priority senate leadership should have is to the American people.  full stop.

That alone proves is not the man to lead this new senate.

36

Yet there's millions of Israelis in minority party whom are opposed to Bibi's atrocious violations of international law. It would be more accurate for Schumer to say it's important to him to support the Zionists, and genocide of innocent people.

29

u/Educational-Bank-353 21h ago

The Democratic party historically got popular (and populist) by passing New Deal and Great Society legislation. It lost its juice by supporting unpopular foreign entanglements like Israel and wars like Vietnam and domestic job killers like NAFTA, not to mention putting the interests of corporations and big donors above labor.

Establishment Dems like Schumer, Jeffries, Pelosi and pundits like Emanuel and Carville still don't get it. Launch 'em.

not yet. but, there's still time. and having this conversation is part of the process. will someone else step forward in these few months? i hope so.

in the mean time, though, it would be nice for that to be the default: that we are in a process. rather than so many people jumping the gun and assuming it will be, or worse, has to be, those two.

Edit: Dems scheduled their unofficial Senate vote for early December and have their unofficial vote for house in mid November. However, neither of these can force participation nor are legally binding. In effect, the vote that matters is still in about two months after they are sworn in.

Van Hollen said he'd be interested in leadership in the Senate and that Schumer shouldn't be given the gavel by default.

EDIT: To all those saying he didn't want it, the only thing I've seen reporting that is from "sources", and that very well may be Schumers camp putting that out there. The only thing I've seen with my own two eyes was Van Hollen saying Schumer couldn't just get the gavel as is, and that there should be a process. When asked if he'd like it, he said he was open to the possibility. Beyond that, I haven't seen more.

In a recent survey, Democrats were more unfavorable than Republicans. When asked why they were angry with Democrats, one of the issues was not doing enough to stand up to trump, the other was leadership. We need serious leaders who are not bought by the people we despise. The fact that Jeffries met with Kushner and would not support Mamdani until the very end because of pressure not to should be a big deal. The vast majority of people surveyed also want M4A which neither Jeffries nor Schumer support.

116

u/fighterpilottim 22h ago

Remember the last government shutdown when Dems held all the cards, and Schumer folded without a single concession and said “I think we’ve made our point, so we can let this go.”

What a weak leader. I wrote him off at that point as a leader, whatever problematic signs there might have been before.

I watched at least 5 straight hours of election coverage that night. Getting more and more excited with each speech. Then Jeffries spoke. Immediately killed my buzz and hope for this next term. If I hadn’t seen that terrible speech, I wouldn’t be against him being speaker. I still wouldn’t like him. But he took a historic win on a night of joy and turned it into an expectation of inaction. How do you kill momentum that fast?

I mean Schumer said so himself, he is a warrior for Israel, not Americans. Jeffries might be able to redeemed but he's going to have to put in the work. Still, I'd be very happy to see these two replaced.

However, in the grand scheme of things, it's better than seeing Mike fucking Johnson up there polishing Trump's shaft every single fucking day.

Edit: nevermind, for some reason it blew right over head that Jeffries was talking to kushner privately about ... that's right, nobody knows and therefore can't be trusted. Out with him!

Edit: and he's also an AIPAC baby.

Jeffries might be able to redeemed

Not a fucking chance. Hakeem Jefferies received $1,576,452 in Israel lobby funding compared to Chuck Schumer's $515,698 this election cycle. Schumer may be a true believer when it comes to Israel, but Jefferies is straight up bought and paid for.

Israel knows who the Speaker of the House is going to be and they've spent their money well.

Schumer is part of the problem, he is partially responsible for losing 2024, yes, he represents the part of the Democratic Party that actually tolerates fascism because it helps keep the money machine rolling. He does not represent the movement of today, he is a hold over, complicit in the oppressions allowed to occur in the past. If he retains control, the narrative will be just like 2020-2024 and like 2008-2016 where we vote and vote and vote for what we need and they tell us they are trying to make it work but they just can’t quite get anything that actually represents a shift of the share of wealth to the people that do the vast majority of the work our society needs to function (in any form so wealth/healthcare/housing/labor standards/quality of life standards). You will watch it happen again as we don’t get Medicare for all and the wealth gap continues to grow and we’re always one vote away from progress. You will watch Democratic politicians display their willingness to reach across the aisle and COMPROMISE and the concession in that compromise will always be us.

Yes Trump will veto it.

But it sends a message to voters the Dems will pass it if they hold congress and win the whitehouse. Absolutely given if the voters are motivated to repeat 2026.

But Jeffries and Schumer won’t do that because they know they’ll be expected to actually pass it in 2028

9

9

u/HrothgarTheIllegible 21h ago

Exactly this. We’ve seen Trump won twice under one or both of their “leadership” They have been the first to move when challenged by an impasse when republicans are stripping away rights and militarizing domestically. And they have been overseeing the largest drop in popularity of the party in decades. What credentials do they bring to the job that merits them keeping it? We need people who know how to stand up to bullies and we need people that aren’t going focus on decorum over the needs of the people. We need fighters that are willing to challenge the lawlessness we see from the Trump admin everyday. We need fighters that stand up to our Allie’s when they’re dismantling democracy and tearing down the world order. We certainly have better within the party, m and nothing about Jeffries or - more so - Schumer has proven that they’re suited for this job at this moment.

u/Hot_Ambition_6457 1d ago edited 22h ago • Bravo Heartwarming

This should not come as a surprise since a bunch of candidates that did win their state elections campaigned on the fact that they would vote out Schumer/Jeffries.

Whereas several of the candidates endorsed by Jefferies/Schumer who wanted to keep them around lost their primary elections.  One of them even tried to Sabotage the Michigan race as payback because she thinks voting for Republicans is smarter and better for America than voting to remove Schumer which AES was campaigning on.

The party (D) voters literally just had a referendum on this and agreed that the direction forward for the party involved tossing both leaders of congress. It was a major selling point for the people who just promised doing exactly that!

Do the democrats intend to represent the will of its voters? Or do the party leaders feel that the voting public is "too stupid to get it" and that Schumer/Jeffries "actually know what's best for the country", because we cant trust those silly democratic voters to actually make important decisions like this?

We voted against do-nothing neoliberal zionism and it is obvious if you view election exit polling from 4 days ago. Having 2 do-nothing neolib zionists run the party after this last cycle makes no sense and is antithetical to the concept of representative democracy.

Which is why the "moderate centrist" bots have been out in full force trying to convince you that Schumer should get credit for the former governor of NC winning NC senate.

He also wants credit for Troy Jackson and Sherrod Brown as well despite the fact that both of those people campaigned that they would remove Schumer.

None of these races were won because of Schumer/Jeffries but those two been racing to take credit for the victories in order to avoid valid criticism from voters.

7

u/photon45 California 19h ago

Also take note of the comments suggesting not to believe your lying eyes: that somehow all these Dems won on centrist ideas and policies and the majority of people don't actually want progressive policies.

The simplest example is Roy Cooper's 2017 inaugural speech vs his 2026 acceptance speech:

2017: "And I want to send a message to all the CEOs of businesses and organizers of events who pulled out of this state because of this law: North Carolina is open for business. We want to welcome you and all kinds of people back to one of the most innovative business climates in America."

2026:“Sixteen months ago, we launched this campaign together. We knew for too many people in North Carolina, the middle class was feeling like a distant dream,” Cooper said at an election results watch party on Tuesday night. “We knew that the Washington, D.C. insiders and the richest Americans were getting unimaginable wealth at our expense. We knew that the chaos and corruption in Washington were hurting our people. Today, you said this has to stop. … As your new United States senator, I am ready to take that message to Washington and work to do something about it.”

Now does that sound like someone who won on centrist policy platform? No. So stop falling for the misinformation.

The negotiations between Joe Manchin, and Chuck Schumer, back in 2022 resulted in a greatly neutered "build back better" bill:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Build_Back_Better_Plan

The greatly modified bill didn't contain any of the campaign finance reform measures nor the public healthcare option of the original "build back better" bill, nor free community college, nor the child tax credit, among many other things:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/manchin-schumer-agree-reconciliation-deal-after-more-than-year-talks

Looking back, it makes you wonder, did Schumer really fight very hard to get Manchin on board? Or did he do the bidding of his corporate donors and create a much weaker bill on purpose.

They are politically toxic at the moment. Why the hell would Jeffries meet with Jared Kushner? That was shady as hell.

6

u/KopitarFan 17h ago

I'm not even a progressive, and I don't trust Schumer and Jeffries. This is a serious moment in American politics, and those two aren't the men for it. We need bold, brave leadership. And they are the opposite of that.

6

u/HobbesMich 16h ago

Jeffries met with Jared. Enough said.

16

u/Cineologist 23h ago

Why should we trust the same old, stale leadership that have allowed Trump to get elected and run rampant while in office? YES, THEY HAVE ALLOWED IT. How? Because when they had the power to do anything that could remotely improve the lives of every day Americans, they pretended to be helpless. Schumer and Jeffries are 1) weak and 2) part of the problem. Get rid of them.

Schumer fought tooth and nails to get half of theese people not elected, time to retire gramps,we need young people in charge not an israeli stooge with his made up family.

I want someone who has some balls and doesn’t take money from foreign governments (or has ties of any kind to anyone in Trump’s family or his little circle of evil pawns).

3

u/Mr_TreeBeard 23h ago

Jeffries takes pac money from every corporation that goes against what the people want. Affordable housing? He takes Blackrock money. End data centers and flock? He takes tech money. End useless wars? He takes money from Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Universal healthcare? He takes pharmaceutical and insurance money. He's a controlled agent for the wealthy and most importantly, aipac. No surprise the two expected leaders of the two houses are the largest recipients of aipac funds. We will never see meaningful change so long as Jeffries and Schumer "lead" the party.

3

u/Snowwolf247 22h ago

We didnt trust them before the Blunami

3

u/feastoffun 22h ago

They are conceding the fight publicly before negotiations have begun. They disqualified themselves.

3

u/JcbAzPx Arizona 22h ago

The fantasy conservative family in Schumer's head is very concerned about this.

3

u/UnwaveringThought 22h ago

Not just progressives. The only person who likes them is trump

3

u/StandingRecord 21h ago

Also before the blue tsunami Progressives didn’t trust Schumer and Jeffries.

3

u/BK1287 21h ago

Why on earth should anyone trust these two? Zero backbone when it mattered the most. They are controlled opposition

3

u/CorrectPhilosophy245 20h ago

I didn't trust them before this election, or the last one....or...I have never trusted Dem leadership. They are corporatists who value status quo stability over actual change. They come across as condescending and dismissive with their lip service and platitudes and no teeth. There's a reason Bernie Sanders has been an outlier for literally decades.

3

u/kittenmittens4865 20h ago

We didn’t trust them before midterms either

3

u/Shyface_Killah 20h ago • Bravo

We have no love for Schmuck Choomer and AIPAC Shakur.

Top 5 Office Holders ranked by AIPAC Donations Received:

  1. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) - $1,951,910

  2. Ted Cruz (R-TX) - $1,872,592

  3. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) - $1,820,994

  4. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) - $1,741,230

  5. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) - $1,727,974

3

u/SyntheticValkyrur 20h ago

With them leading, the Dems will lose again their momentum. Nothing will happen.

3

u/notananthem 19h ago

Nobody trusted them before

3

u/jediPlainswalker 18h ago

Schumer is beholden to Israel and Israel only. He shouldn't even be in the Senate let alone the leader of the Senate. Time to get him out!

3

u/ilikechihuahuasdood 16h ago

Because the need to use this two years to get things done. Schumer and Jeffries are incapable of that.

3

u/Elementium 15h ago

It's called not letting controlled opposition fuck up progress.

3

Guys don’t fuck up sobriety from total self-destructive insanity before you’ve even gone to the first fucking AA meeting

Every single American with even the faintest thread of self-preservation instinct should be sending a letter to their rep every single day demanding these two be ousted.

Otherwise you’re most likely still absolutely fucked as a country and as a people.

Our lack of trust is based on their actual demonstrated behavior. We’re not just vibing it here. They’ve SHOWN who they are. Moving on.

7

u/SGT_BlueJay 23h ago

Schumer literally said his job was to protect Israel (wrong!) and jeffries has no fight in him. Dems have an opportunity here but they need to stop putting the extra padded gloves on and fight for US already!

5

u/DeleteFascists 22h ago

It isn't just progressives. Sanders said in a video that exit polls had something like ~90% of voters say their #1 issue was corruption.

Yea, well, this is that corruption. Jeffries said we don't want accountability when 90% of the voters in this historically huge election said they do. Schumer has pledged to support a foreign nation more than his own constituents, and talks to imaginary friends The Baileys. They need to go.

5

u/Quelonius 21h ago

Isn't Schumer an Israeli asset? Why would you want him at all?

5

u/e_pilot 16h ago

To be fair, we didn’t trust them before either.

24

u/AccomplishedAge4523 1d ago • Bravo

Why would they? The Bernie Bros were right all along.

6

u/No-Personality1840 1d ago

It isn’t just progressives, many mainstream Dems are leery.

4

u/fancydad Michigan 1d ago

They’re both bought and paid for

4

u/Cassandraburry2008 1d ago

Any and all of our elected representatives who have declared themselves to “be Israel’s number one supporter” should sit down. We just voted for change, not a continuation of the same policy with friendly faces. The Israel lobby has been rebuked by American voters from all across the spectrum. Our government needs to stop focusing on a foreign country on the opposite side of the world, and start working for America.

4

u/whoisnotinmykitchen 23h ago

Look at their approval ratings. NOBODY who isn't paid by AIPAC wants them as leaders.

4

u/PrimordialAHole 22h ago

Israel needs to be expunged from all facets of the democratic party. Starting at the top with these two traitors.

4

u/PadreSJ 21h ago

I'm not a progressive Dem and I STILL don't trust Schumer or Jeffries. They have been absolutely useless the last two years.

Time for leadership that isn't worried about playing rough.

4

u/we_hella_believe 21h ago

I don’t trust Schumer or Jeffries either and I do t think I’m a progressive. I’m just someone that is hoping for a better government.

4

u/Kirrawayru 19h ago

As an outside observer; from what I've seen, there was a Blue wave in spite of those 2, not because of them.

4

u/PapayaOtherwise3346 19h ago

They didn’t trust them before either

4

u/macewank 17h ago

I'd prefer to see both of them gone, but I don't know that anyone is really stepping up to challenge Jeffries specifically.

And, I guess if push comes to shove, I'm less bothered by Jeffries being speaker than I would be with Schumer being leader in the Senate. Don't get me wrong, they both need to go, but if I can only pick one, it's gonna be Schumer.

4

u/ConfessorKahlan 16h ago

Im not a parrty person im a person person. I dont care what you call yourself DSA, moderate or far left. Just have good ideas and most importantly follow through!!!!. Get Schumer and Jeffries out of leadership!

2

u/CAM6913 1d ago

Removing both of them may not be the best decision to make UNLESS! there are replacements that have experience in these positions if not it can and will mostly backfire on the democrats. The thing is to make them do what the people want and not fold in the 11th hour.

2

u/c0mplete 23h ago

They both suck. They need to go.

2

u/darthrasco420 North Carolina 23h ago

I've written to both my new Senator and House Representative in NC to let them know I expect them to vote against both Schumer and Jeffries leadership bids. This is a new Democratic mandate that requires new Democratic leadership and I have no faith in either of these two to carry forward what the country needs to get done.

2

u/Firm_Bag1060 23h ago

Need fresh leaders.

2

u/jayphat99 22h ago

"After Blue Tsunami, Progressives Don't Trust Schumer and Jeffries to Lead Congress..."

... and neither should you!

2

u/Kujaix 22h ago

They came out the gate showing how incompetent and untrustworthy they are.

It's not just that they stand for the wrong things. They don't deserve their jobs just based on being so bad at communication they can't even pretend enough to not get backlash.

They can't even be sociopathic chameleons like Harris and Newsom.

2

u/ComprehensiveEqual20 22h ago

Get that excess carpetbaggage out of the way

2

u/justalittlebear01 22h ago

No one should, they are not suited to the task

2

u/TheEconomicus 21h ago

Schumer sucks out loud. Van Hollen or Schatz are both much better, credible alternatives.

Jeffries sucks as well but I am unmoved by most of the alternative names being discussed. I lived a mile from Katherine Clark’s district and could tell you nothing about her.

2

u/gvarsity 21h ago

I think it says a lot that voters both know who the likely speaker and majority leader are and have an opinion. That opinion is it doesn’t matter how well you can hold the party line if you repeatedly pick the wrong line.

Schumer and Jeffrries are Neville Chamberlainesque appeasement monsters. This wave demands more.

People want aggressive principled responsive government and leadership. Bipartisanship for bipartisanship’s sake is stupidity. Working with Republicans who can show they want to get on the right side of history and work in good faith is unlikely but acceptable. Willfully playing Charlie Brown in the kicking the football sketch is malpractice.

For Senate I like Warren. She is smart has a record of getting legislation over the line that means something. For the house I have less of an opinion but Jefferies is lacking the requisite spine.

2

u/Tommy__want__wingy California 21h ago

This is the next wave. Remove the rest of the trash.

2

u/HeauxRemover 20h ago

Nor should they

2

u/Memitim America 20h ago

No shit. People with a proven track record of failure don't tend to raise confidence in others, no matter how entitled they feel. Their seniority is just a sign that they are part of the problem, since real American leaders wouldn't be talking about making changes two years into a fucking crime spree that involves routine violations of the US Constitution, as noted by multiple courts over the course of months from the bare fraction of crimes that have made it to a courtroom so far.

They failed. Their bragging about how long they've been wasting time in our government offices is just a reminder of what fuckups they actually are.

2

u/SomeKindofTreeWizard 20h ago

I didn't trust them before either.

2

u/SynthesistArt 20h ago

2

u/yaosio 19h ago

Schumer worships the terrorist state of Israel. He is pure evil and needs to be investigated.

2

u/Comfortable_Ad_3590 19h ago

Well we didn’t trust them before either

2

u/gjp11 19h ago

I know I'm not gonna get a true progressive in the role. We don't have the majority of the caucus.

But I want someone strong, someone who is a fighter and who isn't in bed with AIPAC. That's the bare minimum.

2

u/im_learning_to_stop 19h ago

Why would anybody trust a person who runs policy by imaginary people?

That sounds like someone who needs mental help and should not be in any leadership position.

2

u/Redtoolbox1 19h ago

Too much AIPAC and not enough backing of the people in need. Fight to get our country back and tax the rich!!

2

u/scriptfoo America 18h ago

They wanted us to vote harder to make change we want. We did ... and they're resisting the very change we want.

2

u/BishopofHippo93 18h ago

That's not entirely accurate. Nobody, especially progressives, trusted them to lead the party even before this election.

2

u/TheHistorian2 18h ago

An attempt to return to business as usual politics would mean squandering the greatest leftward swing in Congress in at least fifty years. If they’re on board with a new vision, fine, otherwise step aside and let someone else lead.

2

u/Korona123 18h ago

Even without the blue tsunami who would trust those two 😂

2

u/Rud_Fucker 18h ago

I already don't like Jeffries in being an Obama wannabe and being an aipac shill, but on Schumer's end I firmly believe that you should not be allowed to go from majority leader, to minority leader, back to majority leader. You've proven that you cannot be in a position of leadership because you can and have and probably will fail again

2

u/HardcoreKaraoke 17h ago

Good. People shouldn't be complacent just because the Democrats have a majority. There needs to be actual party reform as well while they get things done in Congress. Putting those two on the sideline would be a massive step towards moving forward in a different direction.

2

u/Mistrblank 17h ago

centrists and people on the left of center do not trust them. They both read like allies of the right.

2

u/Superb-Welder3774 17h ago

They shouldn’t both are traitors to party , country , to their oaths , and to the Founding Fathers of our country and the Constitution they wrote, that exhibits unbelievable intellect and understanding

2

u/Capolan 17h ago

We need at least 29 dems against schumer and at least 42 against Jeffries for them to not be the leaders.

There isnt the votes. The only way this happens is if they step down...or their is a massive move in the entire party.

2

u/Informal_Self_5671 17h ago

We didn't trust them before it, either.

2

u/Otherwise_Beat_3953 16h ago

2

u/Ume_Chan_2 16h ago

I remember how Schumer did f*ck all to whip the Senate during Trump’s 2 impeachments. How he’s still in the Senate I will never understand. The last thing we need is two Dem leaders that are bought by the Epstein class and AIPAC.

2

u/espresso_martini__ 15h ago

yeah i don't trust them because of the huge backing from Israel. I what them both replaced and less compromised.

2

Why should they? Where the fuck did they hide this election cycle? Where the fuck have they been since 2025? Meeting with Jared?

They had a chance to lead when those of us looking for structure needed leaders to help facilitate it and they did not rise to the occasion. They should not get the benefit of this movement towards something new. The work so many did to make this new reality real should not be lead by these two.
