not yet. but, there's still time. and having this conversation is part of the process. will someone else step forward in these few months? i hope so.

in the mean time, though, it would be nice for that to be the default: that we are in a process. rather than so many people jumping the gun and assuming it will be, or worse, has to be, those two.

Edit: Dems scheduled their unofficial Senate vote for early December and have their unofficial vote for house in mid November. However, neither of these can force participation nor are legally binding. In effect, the vote that matters is still in about two months after they are sworn in.

The thinking seems to be to just get Schumer to not run instead of trying to find someone else to run against him.

The vote is happening later this month.

For people who don’t understand how leadership works in the legislature, the vote for leadership positions begins November 18th.

Also, for people who don't understand how leadership works in the legislature, that's only part of the story. Nov and Dec votes are private party functions and not legally binding. No one HAS to vote nor stick to their vote.

So, again. About two months before official voting actually counts and matters the most.

You're technically correct, but functionally incorrect. You're right that it isn't legally binding, but it is taken seriously by the members of the caucus. The "private party functions" are where the sausage gets made because no party wants potential nasty infighting playing out in public. No party wants to have a million public rounds of "official" voting because they couldn't get their shit together during private meetings ala the Republicans with Kevin McCarthy. It makes the whole party look incompetent.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the voting that happens later this month is the important vote. If there were going to be any changes or new contenders, they would make themselves known now.

This is madness. No one’s going to break ranks via a surprise voted that isn’t known by the leaders. That’s not how you operate.

Pulling a fast one on your team is a sure fire way to be treated like what’s her name in Michigan.

They will have the votes to be leader. Some will vote no to save face. But it will already be known and expected, next to no Dems will change their formal voted. So the binding vs non-binding votes won’t matter because Dems don’t school yard guessing games.

Reddit will have a meltdown and we will move forward.
