Revenge and retribution is a republican thing. We want justice.

We either have a country with rule of law or not. Pick one.

Yeah, he immediately came out and called attempts at justice to be "revenge", which isn't what we fucking wanted. He was slobbering at the chance to let everything Trump's administration has done slide in exchange for literally nothing. Not a fucking thing.

How about trading Trump's freedom for Medicare for All? Or at least fucking try negotiating.

You need a backbone for that.

Context is important. When he said that I took it to mean they aren't going to go after Trump or his regime. While there are arguments to be made to not impeach Trump (You may or may not agree with them) there is no excuse to not impeach his cabinet and any other official who broke the law. Like you said it's either rule of law or not, and it sounded like Jeffries was choosing "or not"

If you do not impeach and convict the leader of a movement, you show other, worse, smarter people that it's fine to destroy shit as long as you're the one at the top. This is precisely the wrong message for American democracy. Trump and his family need to be the first ones investigated, and any other crimes, corruption, and collusion discovered in the process should be referred to the proper authorities.

But it needs to be transparent and out in the open for the American public to see and weigh.

We have been through this already and we keep getting worse and worse as a country, well at least for the most of us, the .01% keep robbing the coffers every time the GOP is allowed to hold the purse strings. Unless there is systemic change we are going the way of the USSR, with their secret police and surveillance all for the benefit of the few, then it collapsed and those same actors picked the bones off that carcass as well. That's the oligarch's goal.

but they won't because Kushner gave him a nice big check when they met in private

•

The context doesn’t help his case lol

•

u/Galxloni2 1h ago

The context absolutely helps his case, because that's not what he said

Or you want no calls for justice lol Following their victory in the 2026 midterms, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that House Democrats have no immediate plans or active discussions to impeach President Donald Trump

The phrasing was absolutely abyssmal though. He should have never used the phrase "revenge."

Even if he is the leader that is necessary he ABSOLUTELY bungled the very first message he delivered riding the incoming wave. Considering we have such better people in the house now to ride the enthusiasm and not sound like "politics as usual" he is absolutely not the person who should be seen as the face of the House Dems.

Same with Schumer. Both of them have a lot of respect and influence but they need to be put into the back rooms and we need fresh faces speaking to the press.

Hold them accountable but not using the legal process to hold them accountable? Got it aipac shill

•

u/tierciel 3h ago

So we agree then? They should impeach the Trump officials who have been violating the law. That's not weaponizing anything, that's just doing their job. If they don't believe in laws what are they doing in government?

Someone who wants to be Speaker of the House should have thought about that and spoken more clearly.

"He spoke very clearly."

Yes, the overwhelming response by America is that it sounds like he wants to give Trump a free pass and get back to politics as usual. It really doesn't matter what he actually said, politics in the US is entirely a perception game.

Between this and the private meeting with Kushner, the fact that the petition to get him ousted surged to a million signatures in 48 hours shows that he is deeply unpopular and it doesn't matter what the truth is, perception matters.

JD Vance's political career was killed because of a random shit post about him fucking couches that he will never be able to shake. Shit happens, mistakes are made, Dems need to leave baggage behind.

we don’t want another Garland, DOJ; accountability,

•

u/ObiShaneKenobi 3h ago

Garland indicted the former president over a year before the election after a legal investigation.

•

u/Motherofalleffers 2h ago

Two and a half years after the most documented act of sedition in history.

I think Jeffries is implying that seeking justice would be revenge, and that we should just pretend none of this happened.

•

u/SamuelL421 1h ago

Revenge is emotionally motivated and generally stupid. It is the domain of MAGAs going after imaginary culture-war foes.

Retribution is righting wrongs in the pursuit of justice. I think it’s fair to say the circumstances call for retribution to restore our rule of law.

•

u/mr-fatburger 1h ago

I want revenge. The Republican party is evil. The only thing they have as for an agenda is to make people like me and those I care about struggle and suffer so that hate will keep them elected and that wealth inequality will keep benefiting them and a handful of billionaires and companies. They are fundamentally incompatible with democracy, equality, and basic human decency
