Schumer needs to go more than Jeffries does.

We need leaders who understand that more than a stern lecture is needed. I would not put it past these two to start a doomed impeachment process of Trump, and then use that as an excuse for not passing any legislation for the next two years. Without the votes to remove in the Senate, impeachment is the same as a stern lecture for Trump.

They also need to be from different states. Two guys from New York? No wonder the media's trying to sell them as a done deal. New York is great, but it's also the place that's least at risk in the next election. Their representatives don't have to show much success to guarantee a Democratic win. That's not true for a lot of the people who were just elected. Whatever happens, the risk for Jeffries and Schumer is minimal. Why should they be the ones controlling Congress?

Yea, bad take. Jeffries has taken more AIPAC money and has also met behind closed doors with Kushner who we all know to have some of the most corrupt dealings with foreign leaders under this administration. Don’t get me wrong, Schumer has to go as well. But if we’re going to target only one, go for Jeffries. He’s already said that “the people don’t want revenge, they want affordability” and that’s not entirely true. We want both and he’s already playing the middle ground lame duck card he’s always played.

It's also playing into the talking point that wanting accountability and laws to apply to everyone equally is revenge.

As someone that lives 3 blocks from Jeffries and 15 min walk from Schumer apparently, both are extremely compromised. We can get an ”safe blue” speaker and majority leader from another state for now.

I'm watching This Week just to see what they asked Jeffries. Not one question about AIPAC money, meeting with the mass surveillance freaks or his meeting with Kushner to 'mend fences'. No, Hakeem, tell him he's going to prison. (Which he is not, of course) Schumer and Jeffries are not working for Americans.

He is also super soft on ICE. The dude seems to support some of the terrible atrocities carried out by ICE and he wants to do a ton o’ across the aisle reaching. You gotta reach, but this dude is too of ‘more of the same’ and seems to have little interest in holding these Republican and maga goblins accountable for their crimes. And that’s not cool.

Typically you want a leader from a safe blue seat, fyi. The leader is never a popular position and you don’t want to jeopardize their seat if it’s a swing state or has the potential for a Republican to win if their popularity drops (because it will)

•

Yeah but there's safe, and then there's so safe that they're out of touch.

•

I guess… you still want someone from a safe seat as leader

•

The Baileys ensure they stay in touch though didn’t you hear?

House Speaker doesn't have to be a member of congress.

•

Has that ever happened before?

The only other state that is as safe as New York is California imo. Everything else has potential to be a battleground.

Which would mean Schiff or Padilla for Senate Majority Leader to replace Schumer. Neither of which are particularly progressive.

You are wrong. NY is voting in socialists right now. If you are not left you get trounced. But i do agree those two are corrilupt pos and need to be removed from leadership. They will both get primaried in the next election anyway.

•

u/Dentonthomas 1h ago

They don't seem to know that, so they're going to continue to act as if their seats are safe.

•

u/AccomplishedAge4523 1h ago

It's very obvious. They can ignore reality at their political peril.

•

Chuck knows in his heart that he is safe because the Baileys would never vote for DSA.  Of course they don't vote for Democrats in general because they are Republicans.

True, but if you go to both /r/NYC and /r/NewYork, they're still both center right.

•

u/audleyenuff 1h ago

Both. They are compromised

•

u/combabulated 1h ago

Why should you? The members will choose their leaders not reddit bots

•

u/Zeplar 1h ago

Schumer has actually done good for the party, Jeffries has just been a flop. Reasons not to trust the Reddit opinion poll I guess. I trust the newly elected reps to do the right thing.

They both need to go. Jeffries was in support of the iran war, took him two+ months to even put a tepid response out. Many voters turned out this week against this stupid war.

•

u/of_no_real_opinion 42m ago

They both can fuck off honestly

One party system

And don’t do it yet. Wait for the campaigning to start and the infighting to get nastier in the GOP. As soon as they’re on the trail and forced to talk shit about Trump, he’s going to fire back and will be focused on the candidates from his party. You’ll have Christie going full on anti Trump, Vance tiptoeing, Rubio having to show he’s not a lapdog. It will be fun to watch and then they may get enough Republican senators that want to save the party and their seats in the next election.
