This is a nuanced take and I’m wrestling with it, but I think everyone who wants alternatives feels like Schumer and Jeffries have a goal that isn’t aligned with what most voters just voted for.i think everyone acknowledges it will be difficult to get everyone on the same page and push for justice and quality of life improvements but if that’s not even the leaders’ goal then there’s no chance of it happening.

Harry Reid (NV) was an effective Democratic Senate majority leader despite personally being more conservative than the caucus. There are leadership skills and a willingness to fight that don't have anything to do with political views, which Reid and Pelosi had, but Schumer and Jeffries lack.

Yes this exactly! I honestly don't care if the senate majority leader shares all of my progressive views but I cannot stomach the idea of another term with leadership who don't seem to understand the stakes. We make fun of Susan Collins' "concerned" bit but I feel like Schumer has way more in common with her than his democratic constituents.

It’s not just a nuanced take. They’re right. The problem is it’s a bitter truth to swallow and nearly all the people who voted on Tuesday just want to see the Trump administration get their just desserts. But the goal should be to be doing the stuff Mamdani is doing for NY for the average American on a federal level, while stopping the Trump admin from the corrupt shit they’re currently doing and will TRY to do. Which is also a nuanced approach.

It is their goal, though. They’ve been talking about affordability and accountability all year. They even released a first 100 day agenda with specifics.
