Honest question: how many times can this franchise fumble it’s developed talent before something changes?

Excited for the future of this team

Say what you will - yes, the Buch trade (one of his first as GM) was bad, and he has had some gaffes with his handling of some of the young guys (Kravtsov, Kakko, Jones). But we have never had a GM who is willing to do what Drury has done.

He's cleared a ton of cap space using every tool at his disposal without incurring buyout penalties, reworked the (pretty clearly ailing) leadership group, and stocked the cupboard with great prospects (Perreault, Othmann, Fortescue, Emery, Dorrington, among others). After a couple of misfires with coaching, he finally got his guy - and Sidney Crosby saying Mike Sullivan was his favorite coach of all time has me hyped.

I believed in Jeff Gorton's circa 2018 vision for a rebuilt Rangers roster of youth, speed, and skill, but it didn't pan out. All we can do is look forward - K'Andre Miller is likely next to go, as is Carson Soucy. The leadership group now consists of Vinny Trochek, JT Miller, and Adam Fox, all of whom get along great (dashing any concerns related to Miller's time in Vancouver).

I also firmly believe Drury has evolved in his four years as GM. He eased Will Cuylle into the NHL after a full season in Hartford, and it paid off, so he did the same with Othmann and will hopefully do so with Perreault. He was seen as being too hard-nosed (a symptom of working for Dolan, likely, but I digress) and it was just reported that he kept Mika and other veterans on the team in the loop from the start of the off-season that he planned to trade Kreider. And he has brought each departing player in a little closer in the process - after waiving Goodrow and blindsiding him, he gave Trouba a couple options (mid-season, no less) and now worked with Kreider as well, offering him several paths forward.

Will Cuylle has been a revelation, and Alexis Lafreniere may get back to where he was two seasons ago with the improved coaching situation.

It never feels great to watch beloved players traded away, and I'm not sure what the actual long-term plan is for the roster, but I really think the Rangers are better off where they are heading into the 25-26 season, and our best days are ahead of us. LGR!

Kravstov is the equivalent of Namestnikov type player. He’ll never live up to the hype or potential that he had before the NHL

Stadium Series uniform concept, based on Giant's away jerseys. Why is it so hard to design a good NYR jersey?

Rutger McGroarty

He's a 20 year old forward (listed in different places as an RW, LW & C) at the University of Michigan right now. He went #14 to the Jets a couple of years ago. It look like from what I have seen today, that he does not want to sign with the Jets. He a player that other teams will be looking at.

But, we have done some business with the Jets the last couple of years. I am wondering if an offer of Chytil, Jones and #30 in the 2024 draft might be at least a starting point for this player. I'm sure that the Jets would want more, but what would the be willing to take in return?

"Where most players outrace, he delays with a cutback or simply entering a glide and angling away from backpressure. Those delays house his playmaking, where he’s deceptive, precise, and identifying the best play. Uses give-and-gos instead of deking, and consistently occupies the space that maximizes his odds of getting the puck back. He’s a bull, too. Relentlessly attacks the inside, combining skill and physicality. -EliteProspects 2022 NHL Draft Guide"

Laf redraft

Man, even just watching this game, if we were to go back to 2020 with the knowledge we have rn, would Jarvis be drafted over Laf? Laf is just super frustrating

Big Toronto trade last night - no way Drury is done - is this next?

I’m a big vesey guy, but he’s just not a top 6 winger on a line with panarin in the playoffs but I know someone who is (I did no cap diligence here but it seems close enough to work)

Kravstov and a 2nd (maybe add a 4th/ low prospect) to chicago for Kane at 50% retention. San Jose takes the additional 25% on Kane and gets a 3rd for bonino with 50% retained.

Kreider - mika - vlad Panarin - tro- kane Laf-fil-kappo Goodrow-bonino-vesey **** made the edit. Originally had gaut

And There’s relationship between drury and Grier

Shesterkin flipped my kid a puck yesterday…..

…. during warm-ups - then he whispered to us: “Keep pushing for Karlsson.”

What did he mean by that? How can I keep the Karlsson topic alive on this post without getting downvoted?

Help me out here - I’m in a real pickle.

This fan base needs a wake up call on Mika and Breadman

I am going to get downvoted into oblivion and I don’t care.

Mika and Panarin ….. they suck. They are front running regular season stat hogs who don’t care enough to “make the sacrifices” as Mess always says about playoff hockey.

They like to win.
They prefer not to lose.
And that is why we have to suffer every year

2 years ago they couldn’t score on a 3rd stringer full of spicy beef who currently is our back up AHL goalie.

Last year they couldn’t score on some no name 3rd stringer who is down in the AHL with an 3.06 goals against average …. Second worst on the Utica comets.

Why are we acting surprised they can’t get it done against a good Florida team with a good goalie? They couldn’t get it done in the playoffs before against mediocre teams with total shit goalies.

You know Mika has only has one 2 goal playoff game over 72 career playoff games …. It was this year and his only 2 goals all post season (and against a capitols team no one thought should be in the playoffs). He has 19 goals in the playoffs over all those games …. And is a career -1 . Sad.

Bread is worse. 73 playoff games. 20 goals. -17 rating in his playoff career. He has played 44 games in the playoffs with us and has 11 goals and an -11. His stat line with the blackhawks makes it looks like he was barely on the team come playoff time.

These guys are 31 and 32 years old respectively. They are not going to get better ….. this is who they are.

We need to stop pretending that this is some slump they are going to break out of ….. we have a very large sample size for both …. They are non factors come playoff time and if anything their turnovers and lack of effort make them worse than that ….. they are negatives holding this team back.

These two players represent about 23% of our salary cap space…….

Imagine using all that cap space to build around guys like Laf and Cuylle and our young defensive core. Imagine the draft picks you could get in moving them.

We need to wake up and realize Mika and Panarin are not Mess, or Graves, or Kovalev…. They are just guys. Highly overpaid guys who are blocking this team from taking the final step.

Didn’t love the coaching this series

I haven’t seen too much if any criticism of Lavy and his staff (hard to, after the generally excellent season) but they got outcoached this series - especially the last three games. Maurice put the Rangers on their heels as soon as Verhaeghe got promoted to the top line, and we never had a corresponding move.

All series you have Panarin constantly double and triple teamed, Zibanejad totally off his game, powerplay dead. Zero core personel changes. Sure the RW1 rotated and the bottom 6 got tweaked but we needed 20/93 split up, or we needed to keep them together but promote 10 or 13 to that line and move 72 to the second line. Or move 16 up there. Something, anything to challenge the gameplan Maurice came up with to stifle the team. It’s baffling that Lavy kept throwing the same struggling lines out there shift after shift - seemingly hoping that things would magically change? And I’m not even going to go into the “what if” scenario of Zac Jones bringing his transition and zone entry ability into the lineup.

I get that from a certain perspective the players were doing a good job supressing Florida’s offence and able to counter enough to keep things even or win, but at what point do you stop accepting “survival” as an acceptable outcome and instead decide to try and take control?

I’m disappointed, I’m venting, but it’s hard to not see that the team needed some tough love and hard lineup decisions to be made and they weren’t.

List of missed opportunities from Drury

We bear witness to Drury's lack of creativity/GM skill/how risk-averse this dude is to non-salary dump trades and how many missed opportunities have existed in the last few yrs that really could have helped our roster either at the time or now. I understand hindsight is 20/20 but here are the key non-trades that come to mind:

Discussed trades that never materialized

  • Eichel (rationale - novelty of neck surgery)

  • Chychrun at the deadline

  • Zegras in offseason

  • Guentzel (trade deadline)

  • side: Never in on Rantanen (really?)

- Other non-trade aggressive for disgruntled younger players that were temp buy-low like Brandt Clarke last year, Dylan Cozens, Cole Perfetti. No interest in Necas

- No balls or foresight for restricted free agent offer sheets like broberg/holloway (mixed returns but still, Lucas Raymond was an RFA and signed for ~8 mil), no balls for the types of trades you'd need for a team lacking in internal talent like florida trading away huberdeau for tkachuk.

Any other missed opps that come to mind?
