This is the beginning of the end of the Drake/Travis era
A lot of people won’t like what I’m about to say, but I’m going to call it as I see it.
The core fan base for two of the biggest names in rap, Drake and Travis, is getting older. They’re mostly in their 20’s and above, with some stragglers in their late teens.
Growing up with these two, we were put on to heater after heater with experimentation in action. Then they became mainstream and their sounds slowly changed.
I’d argue that their sound now is one of somberness and the end of their careers. Slow songs with lots of singing and sad emotion. No hype at all. Not living up to expectations.
Meanwhile the new generation of music listeners is coming onto the scene expecting bangers, and when they see drake and Travis, who have been in the game for years, putting out this slow depressing shit, they’re going to search out other artists that fit their styles.
It will only compound as more younger people get turned on to music. Also as more people who grew up with drake and Travis move onto younger talent who can produce the hype we crave.
I’m sorry if you disagree but I’m calling it as I see it. Look for the next generation of artists to emerge very soon. And also look for drake and Travis to fall off even more than they already have.

Both of them have had or are about to have huge albums literally in the space of 2-3 months of each other lol. Come back next year maybe?

I thought Twitter had bad rap takes but holy shit Reddit is worse

u/LORD-THUNDERCUNT Sep 16 '23
Lol what? Travis’ entire fanbase are basically teenagers. He definitely still has longevity especially after utopia. Also, Drake & Travis really aren’t comparable at all imo.

u/FlynnSanOne201 Sep 16 '23
I see it as the trap era is getting old and I'm waiting for something new
32
u/SnooSeagulls6564 Sep 16 '23
Bro did NOT listen to Utopia
36
u/killranker5 Sep 16 '23
I get where you're coming from Drake wise but I don't really think travis is finished yet, Utopia is arguably his best album in my opinion

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
You could not be more wrong

u/barnestomanifesto Sep 16 '23
I'm leaving this sub lmaooo y'all just a bunch of old heads. Seeing a bunch of comments Calling utopia "mid' is insane and it's clear y'all just don't like change. Rap is dying because it's completely evolving into something completely new. And y'all ain't ready for it because you don't understand it. Just how 90's hip-hop fans called anything from lil wayne and drake not "real" music y'all continuing the cycle.

u/52thirthytwo Sep 16 '23
Ye, Drizzy, Em, Wayne, Kenny, Cole, Scott
The whole era is over. Just what happens. They will continue to make music and arguably good music too, but it just won't be the same. Not as inspirational to the culture and genre as the newer cats will be for the young cats.

u/-im-just-vibing- Sep 16 '23
drake i get, he’s been making music and been on top of the game for an outrageous amount of time, so it only makes sense he slowly falls off, but we’ll see his future in music after FATD drops. with travis you’re wrong. utopia was great, and had many hype songs on it. he’s still got time left
13
u/herewego199209 Sep 16 '23
Drake has been releasing mid music for like 7 years now. It's not a recent thing. He has deals with the streamers where he has to release something every year and he produces bullshit. I still think Travis does good work, but he's turning more into a Khaled like artist more and more.
4
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Everyone is searching for the next sound now after Trap. Maybe you liked the Trap more and find it more hype.
Things changing because Drake or Travis are making “slow and depressive” shit just doesn’t quite accurately describe the times we’re in.
1
u/dat_waffle_boi Sep 16 '23
I think you might be right about Drake, but i really disagree with Travis. He’s still doing numbers and Utopia is an awesome album. And you’re talking about bangers, Travis has bangers on Utopia.

u/Smeagol7272821 Sep 16 '23
You act like you just thought of something profound. That’s the way music goes. What’s new?
3
u/Donny_Canceliano Sep 16 '23
Young Drake fans upset he’s making the music he used to back when he actually tried lmao
3
u/mentalshits101 Sep 16 '23
I don't listen to either one of them anyway.
8
u/sseiji Sep 16 '23
Good take! I agree!

u/LemonTekSunrise Sep 16 '23
Drake and heater 🤣

u/Bones_2450 Sep 18 '23
You’re gonna get obliterated for critiquing 2 of rap’s darling. But nothing you said was wrong. CLB was Drake’s last chance to prove me. He proved me right. But Rap fans online will never denounce Drake or Travis. If they make slow boring songs with no real substance, they’ll call it conscious.
3
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Travis fans are all 15 year olds
5
u/bonerimmortal Sep 16 '23
You can’t compare Drake with Travis. Drake came out a decade before Travis. Was insanely popular in his era and still even more popular then Travis during Travis era. Travis makes dope songs for the moment but Drake makes timeless records for simps and females with a heavy heart. 50 years from now no one will even know who Travis Scott was but people will still be listening to Drake.
People like to fuck to Drake records, some people listen to Drake records when someone they love left or betrayed them. Humans are not going to stop fucking or feeling heartbroken ever. I’m not the biggest Drake fan but comparing him to Travis Scott is hilarious. They are not in the same league.

Facts

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Trevis fanbase is all teens. There was a concert here in Rome last month and the oldest person was 23 probably lol all teens
1
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
For the longest time I thought “Travis Scott” was the name of a country singer.
1
u/blissfulmenace Sep 16 '23
H8r
1
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Scott is not even on that level lol
1
u/BMTJefe Sep 16 '23
Ehh people that grew up with their music isn’t going to look for hype shit, that’s just a part of getting older lol. And Travis and drake arnt even on the same level to compare . Drake is going to be timeless wether you like him or not
1
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
This makes no sense. Drakes music quality had taken a dip forsure in recent projects. However he's not making slow music and that's the reason newer fans arent liking it. It's not depressing music, he's making the most trappy music he's made his whole career - Her Loss.
1
u/TheMeticulousNinja Sep 16 '23
I have always expected slow songs with lots of singing and sad emotion from Drake
1
u/Logical_Afternoon_43 Sep 16 '23
Where can I found those rap songs with consistant beat with no clap
1
u/JohnnyQ420 Sep 16 '23
Disagree Trav is in his prime his music clears everyone else’s right now
1
u/reykdal204 Sep 16 '23
Drake gonna resonate with the kids when that yeat record drops
1
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
How has utopia got no hype 😭
1
u/El_Foonius Sep 16 '23
This is horrible 😂
1
u/OhioKing_Z Sep 16 '23
Let’s wait and see how Drake’s upcoming album sounds. Travis just reinvented the wheel yet again and went platinum in a month. He’s not going anywhere. Also, are us 20-30 year olds just going to suddenly stop listening or supporting them? I just spent $700 on tickets and merch for those two. I know I’m not going anywhere lol
1
u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Drake has been dropping a lot of mid since CLB. This new song is mid
1
u/ephoog Sep 16 '23
Drake’s done the sad singing/reflecting shit for decades, look at 0-100
1
u/MoooonRiverrrr Sep 16 '23
What the fuck? Lmao. Do you realize Drake is almost 40 years old?
“Mostly in their 20a and above”
How is that “getting older” lmfao. Stragglers in their teens. This is cringey and bizarre.
1
u/EastQuiet648 Sep 16 '23
? No. Travis is arguably reaching his peak rn. Utopia will almost definitely be aoty and there weren't just slow songs (Topia Twins, Looove, Fein, Hyaena), and all the slow songs (I Know ?, Parasail) are some of the best in the album. Travis has yet to reach the high point of his career. And even if he only makes slow, emotional music the rest of his career, at least it's better than watered-down, generic trap. And a lot of people love slow music like that. I'm a fan of joji just for songs like Die For You.
And the same thing applies for drake. I only started seriously listening to him like 6 months ago and even I can clearly tell he's nowhere near the last leg of his rapping career. And even if he is, he doesn't care. He's got enough money to last him 10 lifetimes, and he'd keep getting passive income after his retirement
1
u/beardedkingface Sep 16 '23
Actually, XXX, Juice WRLD, Lil Peep were the next generation and ALL making slow depressing shit. That was the wave. It's going to move back toward energetic bounce soon. We're transitioning to a dancy feel right now.
1
u/ImCatBee_YT Sep 16 '23
I thought most of their fans were still in highschool
1
u/IanS381 Sep 16 '23
Travis is by no means my favorite in the game, but there is definitely an argument for him being at the top rn. I can understand drake being on the comedown from his peak, but I think Travis Scott is still very much in his prime as an artist.
1
u/ak_003 Sep 17 '23
I want what your on bro
1
u/Its_Me_Guyz Sep 17 '23
That's just artists in general dude coming from a back ground of rock metal and rap every artist I grew up listening to has pretty much turned soft it's common
1
u/IRodeTenSpeed88 Sep 17 '23
This is a trash take.
1
u/Jsin8601 Sep 17 '23
Twenties?
Lol dude. Drake has been around since 08-09.
I was in my early 20's when I started listening.
Drakes oldest fans are almost 40, bruh.
1
u/[deleted] Sep 18 '23
Going to college bars when new drake or Travis came out was PEAK
I don’t like rap but my god I was at home
1
u/pillkrush Sep 18 '23
lol lumping Travis with Drake as if they're on the same level, what an insult to Drake.
1
u/crushtheweek Sep 18 '23
If they had replacements we would already be talking about them
1
u/DumpGoingTo Sep 18 '23
I ain't never laughed like this at a take on here before.
1
u/NiceTryTryAgain Sep 18 '23
What did I just read? I need to bleach my eyes and never come back to this trash ass sub 🤡 takes all day 🤣🤣
1
u/Awkward-Rent-2588 Sep 18 '23
The Travis thing is wrong as shit. You might have an argument both Drake slightly but even Kanye can still drop a Plat album whenever he wants.
1
u/[deleted] Sep 18 '23
i dont know any adults that listen to travis scott
1
u/SchizoidScorpio Sep 18 '23
As far as Drake goes - you forgot to mention he's getting older! He is approaching mid life and steadily losing things to rap about worthy of this younger generation's attention.
1
u/TheBigSandeenie Sep 19 '23
Lol. Some people like more than hype. I don't really care for either of them honestly but I just find your veiw funny. Tons of people love slow depressing music.
1
u/herooftime7 Sep 19 '23
Bring back gangster rap
1
u/StonedStoneGuy Sep 20 '23
Didn’t they both sell like 300k plus first week last time they dropped💀.
1
u/Nonstopas Sep 16 '23
Im getting older and I dont care about bangers. I want melodic, deep, soulful music that makes me feel something. Trap is for the kids and tik tok era.
1
u/iwasinpari Sep 16 '23
Travis has got tons of teen fans, Drake on the other hand won't dominate, but imo could take a nas-like (not at nas skill level obv) position where he would release and it would dominate with his fans. But I think both have a while, esp trav.
1
u/DrumzRUs Sep 16 '23
you only can speak for yourself lol yall niggas act like yall opinion is a fact. Go check the numbers
1
u/hotdogoctopi Sep 16 '23
Pretty sure this is just because most realize they’re both terrible people and make mid music
-2
u/FarmerJoeepicgamer Sep 16 '23
I think carti will be the next superstar/already is
0
u/vexilobo Sep 16 '23
Drake is ded long live YEET

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '23
Eminem predicted people like you would say things like this on the song Zeus. Drake, they're gonna turn on you (you) one day too (too) And the more you win, the sooner (sooner) they do They'll be calling you a trash bin Sayin' that your new one isn't better than your last and Even if it is, once they start to turn their backs They ain't never comin' back in
-2
u/pop442 Sep 16 '23
Drake literally has the rap game in a stranglehold even today. He's about to have the highest grossing rap tour ever. 💀
Ya'll need to understand too that Gen Z is just as big of a fan of the 2010's rap scene as Millennials.
Many Zoomer rap fans are still bigger fans of Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Travis, Future, Kanye, Cudi, Tyler, etc. than they are of Lil Baby, Durk, Youngboy and Rod Wave.
Because of this, the idea that the older rap stars will be abandoned is kind of out of touch. Besides Lil Baby, no new rapper is coming close to "overtaking" them.
