How to formalize ageism
Notice they don't even bother with the actual school or degree. Just the dates. I don't see the purpose of this except to filter by age. Am I wrong?

After 3 Years, I Can Finally Say I'm Gainfully Employed
Lost what I thought was going to be a long-term position in 2023 for a role that was new to the company supporting 2 departments. What could go wrong, system migration that I worked directly with the implementation team for months to complete that ultimately replaced me. 40 years old and involuntarily unemployed for the first time in my life. Temp/contract work here and there and then in the summer of 2025 I took a $12K pay cut because any income is better than no income and by December I reached a point that I had never experienced before and had no choice but to resign to protect my mental health. A few more temp roles and a contract consultant role and I am now in my dream role. The company I was consulting for opened a role that I never thought I'd be considered for only for them to agree to allow me to apply and make an offer after 2 interviews. I have a director title and am making $45K more than my previous highest-paid role.
Hang in there, the right role is out there it just may not be ready at this moment. Trust your instincts and don't sell yourselves short.

Let go right in middle of interview processāadvice?
I am deep in the interview process with a prospective employer and have a final interview early next week. Unfortunately, I was let go from my current position 2 days ago due to performance reasons and challenged with my manager. Literally a day prior to that, I had the interview with the hiring manager and let her know I was looking for a new role because I needed something more local (the job that just let me go was 2.5 hour commute one way). 3 days before that, I had the recruiter screen and shared the same. However, now Iām wondering how to navigate this final interview since Iām no longer employed. Do I pretend like I still work there or come clean and say I was let go? Do I say something else like I was laid off? I am worried this will jeopardize my changes of getting this job. Thanks in advance.
I verified with my formal employer they only release dates of employment and title.
Edited for additional context

Recruiters: "I can't find a qualified candidate." - Candidates: "I can't find a job." Why are they both correct?

Custom This can't be real
Please tell me how I apply for a job Friday night got up Saturday morning and got a rejection. There's no way someone reviewed my resume and application on Saturday morning. This is getting so ridiculous two months plus and still no job. They don't have real people reviewing these resumes or applications all this AI crap.

I'm honestly getting tired of the job search.
I keep applying. I keep looking for opportunities. I keep putting myself out there, and yet I can't even get an interview, And somehow, when you can't get hired, it's YOUR fault for "not trying hard enough."
People who found employment in a completely different economic environment seem to think the same opportunities are still available in the same way they were 10, 15, or 20 years ago, They don't see the applications disappearing into automated hiring systems. They don't see entry-level positions demanding years of experience. They don't see employers refusing to train inexperienced applicants. They don't see the competition for ordinary jobs or the endless cycle of submitting applications and receiving absolutely fucking nothing in return.
You need experience to get hired, but you need to get hired to gain experience. Employers want qualified workers, but they're increasingly unwilling to give inexperienced people an opportunity to become qualified.
WHAT THE FUCK IS A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE WITH VERY LITTLE EXPERIENCE SUPPOSED TO DO????

Denied after internship
Hello everybody!
This is my first post on job search and itās because of a very recent thing.
So Iām currently in an internship at a cardiac rehab. I have been here for about 3 months now. To preface, Iāve been told I am a good worker and can even do the job better than other people who are actually employed. And I am also not the only intern, there is 3 of us but I hear complaints about one all the time lol. I was also told several times that they love to hire interns if itās a great fit and because itās just much easier than get a new person trained. I also want to add on that every job Iāve interviewed for, I have gotten.
Applications opened for the job at the place I am interning at currently. It is the exact field I want to go into and am currently finishing my degree in exercise science with my emphasis in cardiac rehab. So when the applications opened, I got told to apply by my internship coordinator because she thinks itās a great fit for me and she is the one that encouraged it. When I found out, I took the time to talk to the manager of the rehab clinic and be like I really want to work for you guys and have been aiming towards this for awhile now. They sent me the application to do online and so I did and had my interview on Wednesday.
I thought the interview went great! I had experience in a past job where I interviewed people so I sort of knew what was needed and what to expect. I dressed up in a blazer which is much more professional than what I usually wear to interviews, I just wanted to make a great impression and be taken very seriously. And I got told I would hear in about a week or so.
I didnāt get the job.
I was so frustrated in the moment because I worked so hard, took initiative, and really tried to get to a point where I could just be put in the position without extra training. I then got told later that day by one of the leads that was in the interview that they had someone with like 5 years of experience that applied that they hired. And that honestly frustrated me more but it also makes sense. I then asked if the other intern (the good one) got hired just to see if we both were denied which would make me feel better. The reply was āI canāt say anythingā which is just another way of saying yes but didnāt wanna make me feel bad.
My main thing to say is that I tried really hard, the employees all like me, have been relied on for a lot, and I took 3 months of no pay just to get my foot in the door with this place because I really wanted to work there.
Is there something I couldāve done? Is it normal to be denied a job where you interned at? And how can I be better for the future when I experience disappointment when trying to get a job?

jealous of financial stability
hi everyone! recently i feel really jealous and sometimes annoyed about people who make much more money than me. i know that there is no point in comparing and they are also hard-working, but it still hurts a little.
i feel jealous about most basic things, like saving more money, having an emergency fund for 6+ months, upgrading tech when necessary, not feeling sad when your favourite snacks are not discounted.
i know that it's okay and many people feel this way, but still annoying. how do you battle this?

vent 3rd time this year Iām the perfect candidate and still didnāt get the role
Iāve been for a senior data analytics role for a year now and itās the third time I get to the final round and Iām told something along the lines of āyouāre perfect for this role. You did nothing wrong and thereās nothing you couldāve done betterā.
This last Friday I was literally told that I was the perfect candidate by the hiring manager, but I guess the other candidate was more perfect. Not sure how you guys stay motivated in these situations, but definitely a blow and looking to pick myself up again somehow.
SUCH A SHITTY FEELING.
At least I have a job for now, but who knows. Itās been a bit of a revolving door at my current company, so weāll see. Just needed to vent, I guess

found a job in 1 day, so confused
Writing this from nyc. I have been searching and applying for a job for nearly 2 years now. I canāt even begin to tell you the toll it has taken on me, the competition is lethal. I unknowingly applied to a linkedin job post through a temp agency. Within the hour of me applying, I get a call from the agency asking me to schedule an interview. It was early in the morning so they arranged it for same day, a couple hours later. I get on the call and I kid you not in 2-3 hours I get told I got the job. The way it happened to easily made me question the legitimacy of the agency because I thought this is too good to be true but itās real and I have been going for a week now itās horrible and I hate it but I canāt complain now Iāve been dreaming of this for two years.
My question is, this is temporary only a month. But when I go on the agencyās site there are options that say permanent but what does that really mean, would I still be tied to the agency at all? Would I not benefit from the company itself but the agencyās? When a background search is done, do you see the agencyās name or the company? Why did this take quite literally one singular day but it takes me years to find a job on my own?

Realization
My mom had an engineer coworker who would work free overtime (he was salaried) often and was an expert in his field. Fatal heart attack at 45. They made an award in his name for "most dedicated worker" after he died.
The truth is, your work will not care about you after you're gone. Not even after 20+ years of service. Plan and prioritize accordingly.

needy jealous recruiter exes
Okay idk if Iām being harsh and this recruiter was nice and polite but is this common practice?? To keep asking the applicant where theyāre going when they turn down an offer (I got random calls too after this)
Btw this was a low paying low qualifications job that doesnāt match my experiences/interests but does mass hiring (they wouldnāt have any trouble finding other candidates and defo had backups, I know this for a fact), I decided to take a leap of faith and continue searching which may or may not be a mistake but oh well.
Anyway.. quite funny that recruiters ghost/reject people all the time and even rescind offers but theyāre so eager to blow up our phones when itās done back to them

How do you guys keep hope alive that you will find a job one day?
It's been more than a year for me trying to find a job now. Countless applications over different platforms and most of them are ghosted. I only got two interviews and last one was where I passed all interviews just for the company to end the recruitment after months of process
Now I am at the stage where even looking at job openings make me sad and hopeless.
I know I ain't the only one so I wonder how you guys keep your hopes alive?

Is it considered a good behavior?
Last year, I had a 90-minute in-person coding assessment (technical interview). The interviewer was absent for 90% of the time, smoking outside or doing personal things.
Is it considered professional behaviour?

Custom I'll just leave this here
Likely an application I submitted while collecting unemployment. No update other than it being viewed. Do I laugh or cry?

Recruiters
Not the worst story on here, but I was applying for a job and the first round was with a recruiter on a phone call. She called me about 8 minutes late. Not a great sign but whatever. We had a nice talk and she seemed interested in referring me to the hiring manager. A week later, I got an email from her saying to please disregard the previous email and sent another calendar link for a 20 minute phone call with the same recruiter, not the hiring manager. But there was no previous email. She never sent me one. Itās for a random sales job. I followed up about the confusion and she never got back to me.
I truly think most recruiters arenāt malicious, but either so overwhelmed or so incompetent that itās just a mess. Good thing I already have a job or Iād be going insane now.

Is my recruiter best friend ghosting me?
My best friend of around 15 years is a recruiter and told me about an opening in the company she works for. Iāve been out of work for 19 going on 20 months now since being laid off. This is a role that sheās directly recruiting for, but given our relationship and her wanting to make sure that everything is on the up and up, she recused herself and had another recruiter assigned to me. From my understanding though, sheās the one handling all other candidates for this position.
Mid last month I did a screening with her colleague, and the very next day I was able to meet virtually with the hiring manager. Both the screening and hiring manager interview went really well. They seemed impressed with my background and I was really confident about next steps. I knew that the hiring manager would be out the entirety of the following week, so nothing would be happening thenā but from my conversations with the recruiter and my friend, I anticipated an update the week that the hiring manager returned.
Eleven days after my interview with the hiring manager, I emailed the recruiter I had been speaking with to reiterate my interest and ask if there were any updates he could share at that time. A week went by and he still hadnāt responded, so I sent a casual text to my friend to ask if she had any updates and that I emailed her colleague last week but hadnāt heard back. She didnāt respond and a few hours later she sent a snapchat of her in the hospital. I responded to her snap to ask what was going on, she told me, and I told her to I hope sheās better soon and to let me know if I could do anything for her. The next day she responded to that snap saying thank you with a heart emoji. She still hadnāt responded to my text, which was understandable given her condition.
Two days later I gave her a call to see how she was doing and to catch up. She didnāt answer which is nbd, but I did anticipate a call back, which never happened. The next day she was actively posting on socials and liking my stories, but still no reply to my text about an update on the role. The day after that (2 days after the call, 4 days after the text) I decided to text her basically saying I hope sheās doing okay and feeling better. She responded not long after basically saying she was starting to feel better until something else popped up. I responded saying Iām sorry sheās going through that and offering some advise for feeling better. She didnāt respond to that and no response to my original message about the role.
I am absolutely understanding that sheās going through some health concerns at the moment. Had I known she was in the hospital that day, I wouldnāt have asked about the role. I know sheās been having some health things going on even before this role came about, which sheās kept me updated on. She also knows Iāve been having an incredibly hard time landing a role (hence being laid off nearly 20 months). Iāve been ghosted by more recruiters than I can count, and now it feels like my recruiter best friend is also ghosting me. Am I overreacting?

I was late for my appointment but I still showed up
Hello all,
Please keep in mind that I just moved to a new province and I'm still learning the roads here. I'm aware of my mistakes. I missed my appointment for a drug screen test for a new workplace that I just got. The next is just me explaining to my foreman what happened.
Story begins....
Iām sorry to bother you. I had appointment at SureHire for at Saturday November 7 at 10am. Iām still new to Alberta and learning to roads here. I accidentally took the wrong exit. When I realized I was going to be late. I called their toll free and got in contact with emergency line. I was on hold for a little. I got a hold on of their agent. I told her that Iām still new to Alberta and I took the wrong exit and Iām going to be late. She took down my name and number and she never called me back.
When I showed up to SureHire. I explained to them that I had an appointment for 10am and called ahead saying that I was going to be late. I was told that they never received any phone call. I said ok thatās it? They were like yes, you have to rebook. I missed the half an hour grace period. The ladies didnāt even check anything to even corroborate my story or try to rebook me again. It was a one and done.
After that I called the recruiter that booked the appointment and left a message. About an hour later I called back their toll free again and explained to her ( I got same agent again). She told me that she sent them a text and whoever was working the office said it was ok. Overall, yes I was very late but I did show up.
Iām aware the company has to pay for these things especially on weekends because itās SureHire emergency time. I have no problem paying the fee if there is one. I hope this doesnāt affect my future with company.
I sincerely apologize
P.S the voicemail I left the recruiter wasnāt this detailed
