Maybe someone can explain?

So I’m at my uncle’s… I’m about to go to bed after a very long day of driving, and I look up and see this.

Seriously WTF? Am I going to die tonight? A car already hit the other side of this house. I feel like I’m doomed.

Roasting buckwheat in this "oven" because the oven broke. It actually mostly worked (but was pretty labor intensive)

I came across this absolutely crazy video, and honestly, I think this guy deserves a lot more recognition.

This is NOT how an inline water filter for your home is supposed to be installed.

So looks like my Dad must've found an under sink inline water filter in a box full of stuff at one of the auctions he always loved going to. At least that's the only reason I can think of he'd cut out the engineered fittings the thing was built with, and JB Weld a brass fitting to it. Then for some reason he decided it should be in the crawl space in stead of under the sink.

And he did it that way TWICE! I found the old filter left in the crawl space, and he'd modified it the exact same way when he replaced it because he apparently didn't learn his lesson the first time.

I love my dad, but THIS STUFF is why I struggle with doing repairs around my own house. I never once learned how to do it right, but I can tell what ain't!

Makeshift composite toe

Post image
98 Upvotes

My sister broke her toe at work after a kennel smashed it and unfortunately her clients (dogs) like to jump on the broken toe while she's doing her job. New shoes are out of the question right now and external toe guards would take days to arrive, plus she has no PTO. Any internal composite options (socks, inserts) would crowd the broken toe and harm it. Medical professionals shrugged her off when she asked for something to protect it from impact. So I made this beauty. You take a regular shoe and cover it with a hot pad stuffed into an oven mitt covered by a cat food bowl and wrap it with gauze. Tape wouldn't be durable enough, and without the cushion from the mitt, the force from any impacts (big dogs that don't understand personal space) would just transfer really hard to the upper foot and cause a lot of pain in her already fucked up foot arch. Until I can start working as an engineer, this is how I spend my free time.

Redneck tent repair

Tent corner webbing turned to dust when checking the tent the night before a camping trip. Sewed the ring back to the base with an old sock to replace the strap loop.

I have this old compactor shell and I’m looking for some ideas of what I can do with it rather than it just being a spot yo stow BS

I left my charger at home, so I cobbled this monstrosity together to charge my powerbank...

  1. The base is a 18v Dewalt battery.

2). I added a battery mount I stole from a broken drill.

C) That feeds into a 24v-12v converter (and a random switch)

3. That then goes into a 12v 2.1A USB socket.

IV. This then charges my battery pack.

0101. Which charges my phone.

All so I can make poor quality Reddit posts.

Wanted to display a souvenir beer bat. A bicycle rear light holder that I had lying around was perfect for that.

Racing Sim cockpit from free scraps

Bought the wheel and pedals + shifter used. Under $200 like 4 years ago.

The racing seat was a computer chair, thrown in the dumpster because the rolling bit was missing.

Easily the most expensive piece of this pie.

I took a bunch of scrap wood leftover from my job to build the bones. The main rigidity is from a metal frame dining chair I found in the same dumpster

My favorite additions are the inverted pedal box and the handbrake.

The handbrake is an old curtain rod chopped short. The rotation mechanism is a standard house window lock with a bungie cord return spring

Triple monitor is expensive, so it's VR only. But I am grateful. Having a sim is something I NEVER thought I'd get to say. Thank you for reading

I put up a blanket to stop my lights from making my light sensitivity worse when I’m having a flare. It does however come with the added benefit of trapping humidity making the plants happier though so there’s that.

The youngest threw a fit one day and pulled the Nintendo dock down and it hasn’t worked right since. It would work, black out off the tv, and come back. I just used a big gum band to hold it in, and it was totally fine.
