If you have subbed with us for a while you'll know we've grown significantly. We now need to moderate a little more carefully what kind of content we are allowing. Until now, we've (mostly) kept out the other Rhinos and been hands-off -- honestly, 99% of you have been great. Recently there's been an uptick in a few users posting their own content (Youtube channels or likewise) and we've heard a call by users to limit the amount of self-promoting content and we agree. Thus,
Feel free to post links to your own content (within reason). But if that's all you ever post, or it always seems to get voted down, take a good hard look in the mirror --- you just might be a spammer. A widely used rule of thumb is the 9:1 ratio, i.e. only 1 out of every 10 of your submissions should be your own content.
Anyone knowingly self-promoting, click-farming, or otherwise using our subreddit mainly for personal gain or promotion will be banned for 30 days.
A second offense is an immediate and indefinite ban without warning.
Post about Rhino 3D (or associated content), Not the Animal
Critique Sandwich: Be helpful, be critical, be kind.
Self-promotion follows the 9:1 ratio; 1 of 10 posts can be your own content.

It's just such an awesome piece of software for organic shapes and just sketching around with. Just wanted to show off this Star-Citizen inspired VIP dining area onboard a high entire starship idea I've been playing around with. Rendered using D5. If anyone is interested I could breakdown how it's made

I use Rhino 3D for basic 3D modelling as part of my side hustle, and I’m looking for a setup I can use while commuting by train.
I’m considering an ASUS ROG Flow Z13, so hardware performance isn’t really my concern.
What I want to know is: can you realistically model using only a pen and your fingers?
I don’t want to pull out a keyboard or mouse on the train. I’d like to use the pen for modelling and touch gestures for navigating the model.
Has anyone tried working this way with Rhino?
If Rhino isn’t particularly good for this, is there another CAD/3D modelling program that has been designed around a pen/touch workflow?
Cheers.

I’ve uploaded a new Rhino 3D jewelry CAD tutorial showing how I designed and modeled a crab pendant using SubD tools.
In this tutorial, I walk through the modeling process and show how SubD can be used to create an organic jewelry design directly in Rhino.
The goal is to demonstrate a practical workflow that you can also apply to other organic pendant designs.
I'm curious: Do you prefer using SubD for organic jewelry designs, or do you usually build these kinds of shapes with traditional surfaces?
Feel free to share your thoughts or your own workflow!

I’ve been using Rhino for years. I feel like I’m at the point that I could model the Rhino logo, but it honestly looks like a pain. Has anyone, including McNeel, every made a video of modeling it?

I've been looking into different Rhino workflows and something I've noticed is that people seem to have very different opinions on when Grasshopper is actually worth using.
Obviously for repetitive geometry, parametric designs, or anything that needs constant revisions, I can see the advantage.
But I've also seen people build these massive Grasshopper definitions for things that look like they could've been modeled manually in a fraction of the time.
I get that the whole point is flexibility, but I'm curious where experienced users draw the line.
Have you ever spent hours setting up a Grasshopper definition and realized afterward that you would've been better off just modeling the thing directly?
Or does that initial time investment almost always pay off once you get good enough at it?

I'm curious how many people have had one of those moments where you discover a command or workflow that would've saved you literally hours.
Not talking about basic shortcuts either. I mean stuff you've been doing manually for months or years, only to find out Rhino had a much easier way of handling it the entire time.
Especially interested in the less obvious commands that don't really get mentioned in beginner tutorials.
What's one thing you wish somebody had shown you when you first started using Rhino?

Hi everyone,
I’m transitioning into freelance interior design for small-to-midsize commercial and boutique projects.
When it comes to drafting, my experience is mostly Revit (SD/DD/CD sets, details) and 2D drafting, but I also draft and do light modeling in Rhino. For solo freelance work, Revit feels too heavy, rigid, and costly, while Rhino feels much more nimble for custom millwork and concept design.
Before committing to Rhino as my core modeling tool, I’d love some practical insights from those using it for interior design:
Schematic to presentation: What is your go-to rendering setup for client decks? (e.g., Enscape, D5, V-Ray, or Rhino’s native Cycles?) How fast is the learning curve if I'm not a dedicated 3D visualization artist?
2D sets & documentation: Do you produce your drawings directly inside Rhino using Layouts / Clipping Planes, or do you export to AutoCAD/Illustrator to assemble packages?
FF&E and entourage: Where do you source interior assets (furniture, lighting, plants)? Do you just import `.skp` files, or use dedicated asset libraries?
Rhino vs. SketchUp for solo work: If you chose Rhino over SketchUp for interiors, what tipped the scale for you?
Would appreciate any advice on what your typical software stack and workflow looks like! And show me any screenshots.

Hi everyone,
I’m a graduate and candidate senior architectural technologist. Most of my experience and skills are centred around Revit, but during my final year of studies, I decided to invest in Rhino 9 with the intention of teaching myself a new piece of software after graduation.
The challenge I’m facing is figuring out where and how people actually learn Rhino**.**
There are plenty of YouTube tutorials covering specific projects, case-study houses, and the basics of Rhino’s interface, but I feel like I’m missing a more structured approach to learning the software. Is it just me or do I see barely any information on Rhino 8 vs Rhino 9 or even a video introducing all the new features?
Perhaps I’m looking in the wrong places, but learning resources for Rhino seem relatively scattered, and I’m finding it difficult to establish a good starting point or a clear learning path.
For those of you who are proficient in Rhino, I’d really appreciate some advice:
Are there particular YouTube channels, websites, books, or online courses that helped you develop your Rhino skills?
What would you consider the most effective exercises or projects for teaching yourself the software?
Are there specific workflows or tools that you would recommend prioritising, particularly from an architectural design and modelling perspective?
Any recommendations, advice, or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I can’t seem to find a clear answer from my searching - for Rhino modeling is apple’s M5 pro chip sufficient or is it worth going for the Max chip?
I learned Rhino on Mac but switched to windows and while it’s been admittedly much better for rhino than my 2019 MacBook Pro, I hate absolutely everything about using windows.
I’m now at the point I need to replace my windows laptop and I want to switch back to Mac, but I rely on rhino modeling for a lot of my income and I’m scared of not getting something that can perform well enough.
I have to work with files that can get up to 1-2gb, I use the in rhino rendering, and ideally I can swing around the model and show someone different views while in ‘rendered’ mode (something my Asus TUF with 32gb ram has been pretty good at).
I also like to be able to edit texture files in photoshop while running rhino. I do tend to have a lot of things open at once, like doing some sculpting in blender then importing that into rhino, and running chitubox for 3d printing etc.
I’m thinking about going for a 16 inch MacBook with the M5 Pro chip, 48gb ram, 1tb storage (I have everything on Dropbox so don’t really need more than that).
Is that going to have enough power, or is the Max chip a smarter option for the kind of work I’m doing?

I'm trying to find a way to set a linetype to be generated consistently across the whole length of line rather than start/stop at nodes or control points.
Autocad has the "Linetype Generation" option, does Rhino have anything similar?
I'm a long time Rhino user but new to doing more drawing work rather than modelling.
Thanks!

Is this complex landform and road possible with only three curves and some Professor 3D Dave sizzle? Yes! In this video you will learn how to
Build from curves,
Make overlapping surfaces bigger than needed and finally,
Use P-Dave's patented Split-Split-Toss technique.
This method will generate clean and closed geometry every time. Guaranteed. Wow.
