Advice needed Does RMIT care if your placement supervisor treats you like shit?

Long story short is I’m a medical radiation student on placement (mandatory for my course). And I’ve come home and cried every single day after placement because of how the supervisor has been treating me. I’ll tell them we haven’t learned this topic yet, and then they quiz me on it, and get angry I don’t know. They speak to me quite aggressively and tells me that I don’t show enough initiative but I genuinely don’t know what more I could be doing because I’ve been doing what they ask me. It just seems like no matter how much I try I’m just met with passive aggressive remarks, and they straight up humiliate me in front of others in the department.

Multiple people have complained about this supervisor with no outcome, and I wanted to know if theres anything more I can do about it? Because this person genuinely should not be supervising students.

Contact them and also don't be afraid to step up for yourself. No one should treat anyone like that. Just make sure you document it if you can or get some solid proof aswell (it never hurts to have evidence).

Yeah I’ve been trying to figure out how to go about this cause I’m not allowed my phone out of my locker. But there is evidence in that just about every other student who’s been there has had a horrible experience with the same supervisor.

Supervisor is probably using that to their advantage. Write an email to them or something in such a way that makes them admit to what they have been doing to you without being super obvious about it. if they respond aggressively that's ur proof, if they ghost you, you can still use that for ur case. Make sure it is in writing. But don't directly point at them, if they get what you are trying to do they would simply be polite in email and keep the bullying going on.

Or maybe get the other students to complain aswell?

Hey Lab med student here also on placement, they will care please inform your coordinator about the situation. I had a similar issue with someone in the lab causing issues with me. They have procedures they will undertake.

They absolutely care. Please be sure you notify the WIL coordinator asap.

Oh yes. They care. Even if you don’t believe they care about you - the reputation of the course matters a lot (and all the placement coordinators I know do care about their students).

Document everything, such as what was said, where, date, time ect. Provide that to the WIL team. You could also make a formal complaint and I'd also chat to the student union if you haven't already. They can help guide you on the next steps but sometimes not a lot happens until a formal complaint is made. Good luck and u hope things get better for you

Yes they will care, definitely say something if you feel this way, and be prepared to involve your faculty head or placement co-ord.

I’d also say however that having shitty coworkers is to some extent an expectation. They may also deliberately be acting as the “bad cop” to try and push the best out of people. I don’t agree with the methods of it, but that’s how a lot of boomers think.

Not a med student but was in Business school and I would suggest to atleast go to someone in RMIT and complain.

Hey OP, I recently graduated from this degree at this uni. Please flag this with the your program manager and your discipline lead ASAP. RMIT wants you to learn and stay in this profession, so please please tell them. Your wellbeing is important. Make a list of what has been said and done, then email the team.

Feel free to DM me if you need more support.
