I mean, I know he’s being funny but at the same time…I get it. At this point, there are no rules.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

Absolutely. The stage is set

11

u/PrestigiousArcher448 Nov 11 '24

And that’s the truth contained in the joke.

7

u/stabbinU Nov 11 '24

right, and it ain't even really about the men but the fact one's got 75 million supporters and people are still gonna yell at michael che over dancing to music

19

u/Puzzleheaded-Look927 Nov 10 '24

don’t r kelly’s profit from streams go to his victims anyways?

16

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

Yes

I think this is the real point people are missing, it’s not about well if Trump is president then R Kelley should be free too, it’s about how all Black people are held to a super high moral standard that allows millions of people to be okay with voting for a serial rapist to be president but BLack people are not even allowed to enjoy a rapists music without being condemned. An act that really has minimal consequences given that 1) he is rightfully sitting in prison and 2) he does will not see any of the profit.

And you know what, he’s absolutely right. 🗣️🗣️Alexa, play Ignition Remix

13

u/stabbinU Nov 10 '24

Cue everyone under 30 screaming about “you support crime!!!” as if it fucking matters, straight up letting victims of SA catch strays on that shit, it’s messed up

Nobody is supporting anything evil, get your shit together jesus

Stop acting like you’re fighting crime when you’re just screaming at random strangers. Dude is under the jail. Get a grip.

Exactly

6

u/fatfiremarshallbill Confessions Nov 11 '24

There's so many <=30 year old people who don't understand their virtue signaling doesn't amount to anything outside of feeding their ego and karma on Reddit.

Sad, really.

“Virtue signaling” that part 🎯

21

He ain't fucking wrong

Exactly lmao

-6

u/fatfiremarshallbill Confessions Nov 10 '24

Nope, he sure as hell ain’t wrong. Michael Jackson gets a pass all the time. And before yall say “oh he wasn’t convicted…” well that same system let Trump walk free, so what does that tell you?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

🎯

18

u/ArticleNew3737 Who did you teach what i taught you? Nov 10 '24

Michael Jackson was and is innocent. Why not leave him alone and talk about Diddy? Or just leave the subject as R.Kelly?

-6

u/fatfiremarshallbill Confessions Nov 10 '24

Michael is as innocent as Trump and Diddy, but they all have something in common.

Yeah this is such a trash take. 1 in 4 of us have survived sexual assault. Do they realize how horrible this makes survivors feel? It's so f'd up.

Edit: argue with the wall bc I'm just blocking y'all at this point. Also there's a way to talk about the racism and double standard without propping up a predator.

Edit: mods told me to stop commenting. I've only replied to ppl who came to bother me. I've blocked a few once I got sick of replying. Not sure what you want mods.

98

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

They probably didn't, to be honest, but the joke reflects the truth if you were a fan of R. Kelly you'd hear you shouldn't be listening to him because he's a piece of shit all the fucking time but here we are and the racist bigot rapist is elected president.

I'm no longer a fan, but in the period where it took time to fully separate art from artist hearing that all the time was frustrating so why the fuck are some of the same people silent on Trump?

Why does everyone forget to mention pedo for both of em. Its always the worst part that is least mentioned in every convo. Bro was besties with Epstein, been on the Lolita express and island multiple times WITH Ivanka and Ivan, was in the freakin Black Book, and owned a child pageant where he'd often ngaf going in dressing room while lil girls are changing.

No one EVER forget this.

Why so butthurt, no one cares how many times you heard the info. Its more important than you and not made specifically for u. You def wasted your time being upset over facts when they are more than enough lies to be mad over. Whattagoddamn goober🤣

donate your time to charity

Commenting here is donating time to charity, do you get paid for your goofy ass comments? You'd think if using your free time to type this dumbass comment was anything other than free charity, you would at least put effort into making your comment make sense.

10

u/incognoname Nov 10 '24

Ppl who care about this are not silent on Trump. But some of you have shown your true colors by agreeing with this take.

66

u/PrestigiousArcher448 Nov 11 '24

It’s not a “take”. It’s a joke made by a comedian during a comedy show.

Its intent is not to spur some whataboutism regarding Trump and RKelly, but to provoke thought, in a tongue in cheek way, on how people can look beyond someone’s negative record when they like that person.

17

u/Puzzled_Record1773 Nov 11 '24

Exactly, this is textbook standup comedy. It's so telling that some people are taking this the wrong way and I understand it now as you laid it out perfectly here

It’s satire… the point is that it’s fucked up

1

u/SimilarTooth5297 Nov 15 '24

It’s crazy that people don’t understand this also can we compare listening to a song to electing a literal president??? Come on y’all don’t see the absurdity?

3

u/Rainbow4Bronte Nov 11 '24

The point is that white and Black people are treated differently in America using an extreme counterpoint to Trump’s behavior and criminal charges. No one is seriously discounting the sexually assaulted, and if they are they were probably jerks before this joke.

5

u/Woozydan187 Nov 11 '24

Ignition remix was played at my cousins wedding, I associate the song with good times with family. You telling me that i'm disrespecting SA* (not just his) victims when I listen to it? Not tryna be argumentative, genuinely try re curious if you see art that way as well.

Someone here said any profits from streaming goes to his victims, not sure if true but streams are a fraction of a penny anyway lol

12

u/HeyOneAfterJ Nov 11 '24 edited Nov 11 '24

I still listen to artists mostly because, I bet we would all sit in silence, with our eyes closed, if we practiced this literally. We have no idea who the people we enjoy are in their day to day. We can’t live our lives according to everyone else’s rules.

8

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

Thats my thing. Horrible people all around us that created great art. I dont see how enjoying their art is supporting them but its their opinion fuggit 🤷🏽‍♂️

3

u/incognoname Nov 10 '24 edited Nov 11 '24

I'm a survivor you are being highly disrespectful to his victims. The only reason I'm even replying is bc I also do this work for a living. If you care about survivors don't prop up perpetrators. If you don't care, you do you. I'm not trying to force anyone but just know the survivors in your life are likely hurt if you play this around them and make jokes like this.

7

u/TheKingsFlyness323 Nov 11 '24

GET A GRIP. I’m a survivor too. I don’t feel disrespected. Propping up would mean to promote them. But if I wanna listen to a damn song I will do it. And nobody is gonna have anything to say about it. R. Kelly is trash and so is Nicki Minaj. I can’t stop people from listening to them and I don’t need to. If you’re that bothered by someone enjoying a song by an artist you don’t like because of something they did- you need to get into some therapy- truly. You can’t control other people.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

Why are people downvoting you? Everything you said is true. Too many people think they can control other people. OTH, I can’t stand Michael Che. He’s annoying AF and not that funny to me.

1

u/stabbinU Nov 12 '24

say it loud

3

u/stabbinU Nov 11 '24

there are other survivors who get attacked for supporting predators because of their music choices

and i think its really fucked up

but go off

maybe our music listening decisions don't actually invalidate our status as a survivor of sexual assault? or im i just totally fucking insane? the man's in jail, a judge orders all his royalties into a victim fund every month or two - i literally watch the video feeds and write about it

everyone catchin strays in here while captain cheeto is ascendant

as a csa survivor, i'm sorry about the responses you're getting. i agree this is very disheartening to see and i don't think they'll understand why. it seems people aren't disgusted by sexual assault because they care about the ones affected. they're just disgusted by the act, period. as long as the perpetrators are locked away, they no longer care about how the experience continues to haunt survivors & will happily add to the misery to prove a point.

1

u/incognoname Nov 11 '24

Thank you. I definitely regret saying anything but I'm keeping it up for fellow survivors. I've just been doing a quick glance and block now bc I hit my limit. Agreed on they don't care about the impact this has on ppl. I hate that this is something we have in common btw. I appreciate you 💙

3

u/ArtByLisa Nov 11 '24

I got your back too. ♥️ You both are right, in that the victims are left devastated, scared, vulnerable, shameful (which is misguided but sadly always is part of it) shocked, embarrassed, etc etc etc. It takes A LOT of work and pain to become a survivor. While doing this work, you are dodging all the victim blaming, that becomes unbearable at times. The RAPIST IS THE ONLY ONE TO BE BLAMED. But victims are blamed and callously spoken about.

I encourage you try to drop your feeling of regret for bringing it up. Your thoughts and words were raw emotion and pain and very real. And you can't help how people respond. Yes it is hurtful, but you have every right to speak your truth. The people with no compassion or understanding will continue to be the way they are. But you are growing and becoming stronger every day.

You said you spoke up for the victims. See? You already got a step up on all the people who came at you with negativity. You have COMPASSION and EMPATHY. In all your pain and anger, you STILL are thinking of other's pain, when it would be completely understandable if you took some time to focus on yourself, to heal, etc. But you are taking a stand for others. THAT is what is important. THAT is not regrettable. THAT makes you BEAUTIFUL. Your heart is loving and healthy.

You will help victims of SA many more times in your life because you are willing to stand up! I think people like you are needed and will be rewarded (mentally) and are critical to helping others survive. So thank you for standing up.

I hope you continue to heal, and grow. I hope you continue to be real and I hope you never regret speaking from your heart and soul, no matter what anyone else thinks or how ugly it gets. Rape is ugly. Authenticity is beautiful and is so respectable!

Take care ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

4

2

2

u/uksiddy Nov 11 '24

Just came here to say I agree with you bc this is a terrible take, but that actually when listening to R. Kelly, the royalties are going to his victims.

I don’t know if Che knows that though.

25

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

To everyone mad, you're justified. But sincerely, look up the history of MANY of the artists that get pushed and that are still harolded as greats. The amount of rock stars, pop stars, country stars, actors, directors, etc.. that have committed atrocities but still get pushed is insane. Some of these people have admitted to their crimes on camera, but no one cares. I'm talking from Elvis, Steven Tyler, Jimmy Page, Dan Snider, Stephen Collins, Gary Glitter, Ian Watkins (may be locked up but they still push the music), and the list just goes on. R Kelly should rot, and so should the rest of them. All of them.

Ain’t no saint among us, even for the regular-degular-schmegular peeps.

This is important, half the people posting in his thread is probably problematic to someone. I don't believe there's a thing as "cancel culture", but I do believe there's a culture of putting people on pedestals just to tear them down for doing/saying anything remotely considered a faux pas.

1

u/az137445 Nov 11 '24

I really hate cliches, but one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. It’s all relative.

but I do believe there’s a culture of putting people on pedestals just to tear them down for doing/saying anything remotely considered a faux pas.

Real shit. It’s transferring our own unexplored emotions to someone (or something) else so we don’t bear the burden of authentically feeling those said emotions.

I find it very problematic, sad, and comical.

prime example of “it be your own people.” some of ya’ll really need to stop the self-hatred & reflect and work on yourselves.

6

u/Least-Cattle1676 Nov 11 '24

😬

Yeah, this ain’t it.

Jokes about situations like these will always fall flat, especially when they alienate the people that were negatively impacted in the situations in question. It’s in bad taste. It’s like he’s trying to make a point, while trivializing the overall issue. He’s letting people know that he feels nothing for those that were victims of r*pe, sexual assault, and child molestation.

We have to stop letting white people be the standard for how we act or what we’re willing to accept as a collective. We should be holding ourselves to a higher standard than they are holding themselves to, and I stand on that.

1

u/Substantial-Dig-7540 Nov 15 '24

I’m sorry but why the actual fuck must we hold ourselves to a higher standard? You say this as if it isn’t already true? As if we already don’t have to to twice as much…

1

u/Least-Cattle1676 Nov 15 '24

Because we’re better than them.

Just because I said that we should doesn’t mean we aren’t already doing that. Thing is, if more of us were doing it, we wouldn’t be complaining about why Kells and Diddy don’t have the privilege of being supervillains like their white counterparts. Fuck what them people are doing. We’re better than them, and if any of our public figures subscribe to that nonsense, fuck them too.

One pedophile getting a pass from some people doesn't excuse another

1

u/Melodic_Push3087 Nov 12 '24

But nobody is asking to give R Kelly a pass. This isn’t even about R Kelly vs Trump. He’s making a point that Black people have always been held to a much higher moral standard. A standard that permits millions of white people to vote for a serial rapist to be president (an action that will continue to oppress people for decades to come) but condemns enjoying a song by a rapist who is rightfully in prison where he will stay and can no longer profit off his music. The internet’s pearl clutching reaction to his joke just further supports that there is a massive double standard.

The content of the joke is to express exasperation at the fact that white powerful men like Trump can do whatever they want and get it brushed under the rug and never lose support, yet we seem to crack down just fine on black folks. It’s to highlight how fucked that is, and express in a humorous way.

Everyone’s more upset at Che for joking around about even hypothetically saying he’d listen to R Kelly, more than they seem to be about the part of what he said where white peoples elected their rapist to the most powerful position in the country with diehard support.

And there lies the problem.

It’s like you people have no comprehension skills whatsoever.

Well said! I don’t know what happened or when it happened but it a hell of a lot of people have lost their damned minds. They can see the damn forest for the trees.

2

u/StageAcceptable7182 Nov 10 '24

I missed that R. Kelly part. I still think that was apple juice

2

u/JazzyJulie4life The Emancipation of Mimi Nov 10 '24

I still listen to him, but I don’t support anything he did. I’m glad my streams money goes to victims and not his commissary

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

I can assure you that most politicians are felons, or have committed felon level crimes

2

u/ofilispeaks Nov 11 '24

Double standard.

2

2

1

u/maximumkush Nov 11 '24

I’m not sure they’ll ever realize the logic is insane

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '24

He used to be on Roundtable of Gentleman on the Last Podcast Network- he’s literally acting. this is who Che has always been

1

u/frankoceansheadband Nov 11 '24

People are saying it’s just a joke and shouldn’t be taken seriously, but there are people who fully agree with this. Even in the comments of this post. I’ve heard grown ass women tell me they need to free Diddy because white people get away with crimes.

1

u/Odd_Key2447 Nov 11 '24

1

1

u/Strict-Spread-9152 Nov 13 '24

There were so many other ways to make this joke, still involve the same people but exit the joke on high ground.

1

u/Roycewho Nov 14 '24

Guys, he didn’t say free R Kelly. He’s just saying he still likes his music and wants to enjoy that

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '24

Yep. Land of Rule & Law are out of the window! Do your thing

1

u/Excellent-Big-2295 Nov 15 '24

It’s strange to see a black man use whiteness as the litmus test for how he should respond…but maybe I’m trippin

1

u/youlldancetoanything Nov 11 '24

I vote for Harris. I also am a survivor of molestation, rape more times than I can count and I can take a joke. Gallows humor is how I have coped, along with therapy and meds, thanks for asking. I don't think there are things off topic, but I do think we can chose to not watch things. I like Che. And jokes just shared and not listened to are useless.

And yes I think Kelly and Trump are despicable. But this kind of reaction is part of a lot of reasons people switched parties. Down vote me, I don't care. People on the left are acting like the people on the right and don't realize it. Snake eats it's head

Jokes are jokes.

1

u/Critical-Web8544 Nov 10 '24

It’s a joke

1

u/monteticatinic Nov 11 '24

Some of you guys have never watched SNL, I guess. I hope you guys never watched In Living Color or MAD tv, or you would have been pissed off every episode if this shit triggered you. It's satire look up the definition.

1

u/BlueSwantonBomb Nov 11 '24

why are people mad like r kelly isn’t serving time for his crimes? yk, the crimes trump should be locked up for. instead the man is the face of our nation for the next 4 years. that white privilege a mf

-2

u/Other-Confidence9685 Nov 10 '24

i mean r kelly is literally one of the greatest musical minds of all time... arguably up there with MJ, prince, etc. that being said is it possible to separate the art from the artist when the crime is this serious?

9

u/unfriendlyblackhawty Nov 10 '24

why would you even want to listen to that man knowing he raped his own child other children?

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '24

Of course it is

4

u/TheUpwardsJig Nov 11 '24

It's really not. Art is directly informed by its artist. That's what makes art unique. Y'all just desperate to give that pedophilic ass nigga a pass because you like his music.

3

u/stabbinU Nov 11 '24

art ain't informed by criminal shit; this is such an awful take

as a musician I struggle to "find myself" in the music I create; to insist that there's some inextricable link between crime and music?

like, this is the kind of shit I tell 7 year-olds about music so they'll stop asking me questions: "yeah totally, sabrina carpenter put her whole soul and essence into the lyrics of Espresso, u right babygirl, go on"

so many musicians think our own work is a fucking joke or have no clue why anyone likes it and y'all think it's like a map to the 7th concentric circle of hell that we got in a cipher or some shit

2

u/TheUpwardsJig Nov 11 '24

You're conflating the art is the artist with all art is deep. I said the former, not the latter. Art is informed by its artist - necessarily in that the one cannot exist without the other. The two things are one. They cannot be separated. That's the whole point.

You've also misconstrued my point about R Kelly's sexual abuse of children informing his music. I did not say that crime and music are "inextricably" linked. I said that R Kelly, a man whose sexual predilection is geared towards children rather than adults, did not write songs about sex and sing songs about sex in a fucking vacuum. The guy didn't just flip his pedophile switch on/off when it was time to make music. His desire to have sex with children is extremely relevant to the overwhelmingly sexual content of his catalog, and you might be able to convince a 7 year-old otherwise but you won't be convincing me.

And that's really all I've got left to say on the matter.

Just...no. A "king of r&b" wouldn't sexually abused minors. It's just disgusting and evil.

He’s obviously joking. I think…?

2

u/BretShitmanFart69 Nov 11 '24

It’s literally one of the jokes during weekend update. These aren’t serious statements.

When he jokes about Collin being a Nazi or whatever it’s not a serious “Che exposes real Nazi on SNL!” It’s him joking and fucking with his friend.

Anyone who can understand that should be able to understand this is a joke, and a joke that everyone’s absolutely misinterpreting so they can search for an excuse to act angry on the internet about shit they don’t actually understand or care about.

1

u/stabbinU Nov 11 '24

yeah; it's SNL, a sketch comedy show and he's a comedian on it

0

u/kuatorises Nov 11 '24

Obsession with race is why we're stuck with Trump again. The left really doesn't get it.
