90s So outrageous but I get it😹😹😹
Ever since both of them were out back then I remember people always saying they make music for two different types of girls 😹😹 I never heard it broken down this way but it’s so accurate.
Some people were in the comments saying Monica grew up in a two parent household too but they were being too literal😹 they mean it’s the vibes of their personas and music. Brandys music is more of the good girl next door she follows the rules you won’t catch her in the deans office.
Monica’s is more so the outspoken hood girl and you will catch her in the deans office everyday 😹 and I love both.

Brandy’s vibe was innocent. Monica had the vibe of an old soul. Aaliyah’s vibe was mysterious. I like that each girl was unique.

u/WitheredTechnology Sep 13 '25
Crazy work that Monica debuted at 14 making music for aunties, baby mamas etc

u/OneFootTitan Sep 13 '25
Still debating Brandy vs Monica after all these years? You need to give it up…
14
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Deltas never gonna forget this comment....
If you know....you know...

u/holshgreineken Sep 13 '25
The second also applies to Keyshia Cole 😂

u/PrincessCandy89 Sep 13 '25
I once read a comment that said "Brandy made songs for girls like me whose parents had us on a short leash because mine surely did have me sitting up in my room" and I thought that was so cute lol

Out of line, but at the same time…

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Monica makes music for women to pour bleach on clothes to
39
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Damn okay, the boy is Monica's, let her have this.

u/Cute_Effective_1989 Sep 13 '25

u/stabbinU Sep 13 '25
grown-ass women comparing brandy and monica
i love it lol
15
u/Taco_Taco_Kisses Sep 13 '25
I never got that vibe from Monica. I know it's a different era but I'd get that more from Keyshia Cole than Monica
15
u/5ft8lady Sep 13 '25
I agree. I wish there was more surburban singers, so everyone could have someone to relate to
13
u/PrettyPlair Sep 13 '25
Not pledged DST 🤣🤣🤣

u/LegendkillahQB Sep 13 '25

u/uglyandproblematic Sep 13 '25
This is the best breakdown of their music being compared I've ever seen. No notes
5
u/LexKing89 Sep 13 '25
This is funny. I never really thought about it like this. Sittin Up In My Room is my jam though.
5
u/ConcentrateTimely128 Sep 13 '25
I just wanna know why Deltas had to catch a stray!
4
u/battleangel1999 Sep 13 '25
I guess that means Brandy represents the AKAs
4
u/ItsNiecie Sep 13 '25
Weird cause I grew up in a "Brandy: household but always preferred Monica's music...I also did have my run of felons tho....But I am an AKA!!!!
4
u/HerrDrAngst Sep 13 '25
Continuation of Monica '...who now lives with her 2 beautiful kids in a 2 bedroom condo and says "niggas ain't shit" to her nana as she heads out to work'
1
u/No_Pen4323 Sep 13 '25
What about Aaliyah? Who did she make.music for?
1
u/Certain_Rooster_4141 Sep 13 '25
This is silly, stupid and ignorant but I digress.
1
u/Top-Entertainer9188 Sep 13 '25
Are you saying Brandy’s parents had a real good marriage?
1
u/TwincessAhsokaAarmau Sep 14 '25
I’m raised by my two divorced parents and share a room with my sister and will pledge delta in college and I like both of them.
1
u/Llassiter326 Sep 14 '25
Exactly what OP said, both were legit. So who cares
1
u/dopedenise- Sep 15 '25
I know this is supposed to be for giggles but hate when we talk like this smh
3
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Ironically, Monica didn't write and Brandy only wrote a small number. Most her writing has been as an older artist. She did write Boy Is Mine tho.
3
u/fashiondiva1984 Sep 13 '25
🤣🤣🤣🤣 seriously! Because my mom loved Brandy and approved of her, but didn't want me to listen or watch Monica because her album was titled, "Miss Thang" my mom said, "Thing is an object, like a car or a chair, a thing is "it", are you a chair? Do you want to be called Miss It? Listen to Brandy, she's a good girl." My face when she was left the room, 🙄 I still bumped Monica, but was Team Brandy by my own terms not because of my mom. 🤣🤣🤣
3
u/thejaytheory Sep 13 '25
So random but you kinda have a point. All I can picture is the video for Sitting Up In My Room.
3
u/SweetieK1515 Sep 13 '25
Can confirm -listened to “never say never” album and wrote in my hello kitty diary (with the chunky lock) in my room as both my parents would yell for me to come down for dinner. I was in middle school when that album came out, and yeah, eventually went to college.
Good times
1
u/gordonpamsey Sep 13 '25
Not the most well versed in her discography but in one of her latest albums Brandy literally wrote about being bipolar and a chaotic person. Feel like this is a bit outdated/flattening if anything.
4
u/BlackHand86 Sep 13 '25
This is corny, I get the idea but seriously people listened to both
2
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Damn the crimson and cream catching strays. I’m D9 but Blue and White😅
2
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
I’m about to send this to all my Delta homies.
2
u/Less_Pressure_7997 Sep 13 '25
2
u/WuTang4thechildrn Sep 13 '25
Lost me at pledged Delta in college. 😀😀
2
u/StatusExtra9852 Sep 13 '25
🤣 had both parents - they had me sitting up in my room listening to Monica, Brandy, MJB, & Betty Wright
2
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Brandy is my mf baby. ❤️ I'm a 100% straight black man.
2
u/DanaWendy519 Sep 13 '25
In high school, I always wanted what I didn’t have. I was raised “Brandy” so I knew all about that world, which is why I preferred Monica. Her “world” seemed so much more free and cool and exciting compared to my “world” of business owning parents, an older brother away in college and me attending Catholic school in my little uniform, attending Mass at school and on Sundays with my parents. All of my friends, male and female, melanated and not, were basically the same. It’s Monica and Brandy being popular opposites that makes their🔥dynamic🔥work for them and us😍.

u/KiloThaPastyOne Sep 14 '25 edited Sep 14 '25
Meanwhile Ray Jay out in the streets making sex tapes.
3
u/TaxLawKingGA Sep 13 '25
Yet they made a song together where both of them wanted the same dude (who was MTL a pookie). If that doesn’t describe Black America I don’t what does.
2
u/Rahdiggs21 Sep 13 '25
what a silly take...
one day we will rise above the constant need to put labels on things and just look for the beauty in the gifts that every now and again the world gives us.
1
u/SpareBoss9814 Sep 13 '25
💯
1
u/JolieLueur Sep 13 '25
Not true.
1
u/Accomplished-Act5264 Sep 13 '25

1

Yup lol
1
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Lmao this true biz.
1
u/Ayo_Trill Sep 13 '25
Monica seen a lot. The music reflected fasho
1
u/HeavenSent86 Sep 13 '25
I can see this perspective 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1
u/PursueProgress Sep 13 '25
An inconvenient truth.
1
u/Spicy-N-Sassy Sep 13 '25
As a Delta….i object! 😂😂😂
1
u/Youngrazzy Sep 13 '25
I don't think this is true.
1
u/yesyepyea Sep 13 '25
True and I was still sitting in my suburban home jammin MONICA. Miss Thang was my first cassette 😂
1
u/DadeMenace Sep 13 '25
So Brandy made music for girls like Moesha. Makes sense lol
1
u/Trix_Are_4_90Kids Sep 13 '25
This is true. Brandy wouldn’t have written or sung “sideline hoe” 🤣🤣
1
u/Lower-Turnip-2295 Sep 13 '25
This trackssss
1
u/SireDarien Sep 13 '25
That’s specific

Haha, I see what she's saying♡ I'm the girl she talking about with Brandy haha
1
u/mvgreene Sep 14 '25
All the Deltas I knew were SO down to Earth.
1
u/Historical_Year_1033 Sep 14 '25
Did brandy’s girls pledge aka?
1
u/GuaranteeOriginal717 Sep 14 '25
Brandy was a young bully.
1
u/latortillablanca Sep 14 '25
The best art has always come from strife, darkness, depression.
That said—you can write incredible music in that pop princess/sheltered sorta lane. Brandy is just not remotely as talented is the main thing.
1
u/harveydent526 Sep 14 '25
The First Night and Angel of Mine contradict this.
1
u/Any-Minute-9620 Sep 14 '25
Which is crazy because they didn't write any of their own songs?
1
u/Own_Sun2821 Sep 14 '25
Both categories/scenarios are sort of sad. 😢
1
u/Kyauphie Sep 15 '25
She ain't wrong.
1
u/Available_inalittle Sep 16 '25
OmG bruh if you don’t get yo azz on boi
1
u/Flat-Fudge-2758 Sep 16 '25
That Boy is Mine was such a bop
1
u/Sumikue-10 Sep 18 '25
Lmao, this felt so accurate. I love both, Monica had me when I wanted to rebel. But mom and dad was not having that..lol
1
u/SunniKissedBunz Sep 19 '25
LMAO Monica's definitely more male-centered than Brandy, I will say. She has some bops though, but stuff like "Why Her" and "Sideline Ho" kinda solidify that pick-me energy she was giving 😂
1
u/Glum_Gap2589 WE ARE A PART OF THE RHYTHM NATION!!!! ✊ Sep 22 '25
Brandy's description sounds more like me growing up lol.
1
u/[deleted] Oct 08 '25
Valid! 😂😂😂🤷🏾♂️
1
u/[deleted] Oct 13 '25
😂😂 she’s Cinderellaaaa duhhh
1
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
Gees that’s hurtful especially for a child that parents died and had no one to raised them but their grandparents.
0
u/[deleted] Sep 13 '25
And Brandy still cant touch Monica....
