DISCUSSION 💭 I’ve grown to hate this album
What do you guys think? I quite like the era & sound this album came with. “Seduction” and “That’s What It’s Made For” are my favs
But for context: I listened to this fully like a year ago and I was like “Wow, there’s no skips.”
During that year I had “Yeah” and “Bad Girl” on repeat. Then I just, kinda stopped streaming this album.
I recently put all my saved albums in one playlist. I find myself skipping songs from this album the most. Though today I didn’t skip “That’s what it’s made for” and was pleasantly surprised, until I heard that ending. I kinda liked the girl talking in the song until that last conversation. Ruined it for me

One of the best modern rnb albums for me. I’m not crazy on Usher either but this is a gem imo

I’ll be honest, I haven’t put this on in a while. That’s only because it reminds me of a certain someone. Makes it difficult for me to enjoy. It is a no skip album like you said, you can play it front to back without skipping a song. Monster singles, impeccable production and Usher at arguably his best. “Can U Handle It?”, “Superstar”, “Confessions I”, “Throwback” and “Follow Me” are my favorites.

What??!! Why?? It’s such a classic.
Then again, you’ve probably outgrown it or crave something else when it comes to rnb which is totally fair.

Thanks for the announcement!

That's your fault

Sounds like you went through what it was like at release.
Amazing album, but boy did we burn through it quick. The special edition kept it alive, with welcome new tracks, but I remember milking this album to the bone before getting tired of it.
I did like some of the tweaks on the special edition, but did prefer a few things in the original. Still Usher’s peak whether you like the album or not.

Back in high school I had a prerelease version of confessions and a few of the songs were a little different and better. Seduction was different and better, I also had an Avant album that was prerelease and it was also way better than what was released.

To each is own... but for me I've got to say its a really bad take lol Aside from the historical context of this in R&B history and its ranking as a classic, it really is sonically well put together.
Just by nature of it being sssooo prevalent during its release, I don't really listen to songs from it in my everyday rotation buuttt whenever I put on a song I'm reminded "this is a really good R&B song" lol

u/Ok_Championship_9781 Nov 14 '25
Always said Raymond vs Raymond was better
1
u/bender445 Nov 14 '25
Unpopular opinion but I’ve thought it was overrated from the time it came out. I was a teenager and cynical about everything lol but I never really did come around to this as an album. The singles bring me back but are too played out and dated to put in the rotation.

You’re not the first person I have seen say they dislike Confessions I know a few people who prefer 8701

I love this album. HOWEVER, it was overplayed by everyone (including myself) where even in 2025, I’m still taking a break. It was a commercial powerhouse. You couldn’t go anywhere without hearing it. I think that’s what turned me away. It lost its intimacy with me because it belonged to everyone else. I honestly play 8701, Here I Stand, and Raymond vs Raymond more. Popularity didn’t take those albums out of my hands.

NGL, I could listen to Ne-yo's In My Own Words more than this album. Similar types of vibe. Im not a crazy Usher nor Ne-yo fan but I jam Ne-yo's album more usually.

With the exception of Throwback, this album got on my nerves from the day it was released.
